I bought a new customized Macbook Air (mid 2014) but when I look the hardware up in the system it says it is mid 2013. How do I ensure it is really the Mid 2014 version? And how do I update the system so it displays the rightmodel?

THe I7 2014 is the same as the 2013
So, if you have a I7 processor, its the SAME unit.
That's very confusing from Apple's side. I normally sell my computers when new ones come up and by having htis 2013 tag it is going to make my life more difficult. Argh....

Note I confirmed in Apple retail stores the Early 2014 verbiage, so I suspect Apple will address this at some point with a patch.
They will have to becuase even SOME of the Core i5 1.4 Ghz which are new show 2013 and some show 2014.
In reality, it's just in the about box and has no effect on the unit's functionality, warranty, etc.
it will affect your pocket when you sell the machine. If i want to buy a 1.4Ghz i5, i will choose one that get the 2014 mark instead one of 2013.
This should not be marked as "Solved" as it is an outstanding issue with Apple's MacBook Air production of custom to built units. Yes, specifications shows what you bought, but you should not settle for a wrong indication of the model. There's another thread in detail on this, and it's NOT the fault of the i7 upgrade.
