The wifi symbol on the iPad only shows the presence of a wifi signal, not that you are connected.

Beta software is for developers to use and report problems to Apple. The beta software is used by developers to ensure that current apps run on the iOS and that new apps being developed will run on the new iOS. Beta software always has inherent "bugs". You should not have installed unless you are a developer.

Some things to try first:

1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.

2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.

3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at

http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html

4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.

5. Renew IP Address: (especially if you are drooping internet connection)

• Launch Settings app

• Tap on Wi-Fi

• Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list

• In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.

Some Wi-Fi losses may stem from a problematic interaction between Wi-Fi and cellular data connections. Numerous users have found that turning off Cellular Data in Settings gets their Wi-Fi working again.

You may have many apps open which can possibly cause the slowdown and possibly the loss of wifi. In iOS 4-6 double tap your Home button & at the bottom of the screen you will see the icons of all open apps. Close those you are not using by pressing on an icon until all icons wiggle - then tap the minus sign. For iOS 7 users, there’s an easy way to see which apps are open in order to close them. By double-tapping the home button on your iPhone or iPad, the new multitasking feature in iOS 7 shows full page previews of all your open apps. Simply scroll horizontally to see all your apps, and close the apps with a simple flick towards the top of the screen.

I know this is an old post but it seems I have a similar problem as the original poster. I upgraded to iOS 8 yesterday on my iPhone 5S and my iPad Air at work. Everything seemed fine so, when I got home, I upgraded my Apple TV and my iPad Mini Retina. I have an 802.11ac Netgear Nighthawk router with standard settings but, for some reason, the phone and iPads will connect to the network but repeatedly disconnect every few minutes and I cannot reconnect unless I restart (renewing the lease does not work). Strangely enough, the Apple TV is having no problems connecting via wifi.

I have connected the devices directly to my modem via wifi with the same result. I eventually did a clean install of all the devices and set them up as new devices still with with no luck. Then, as a last resort, I downgraded all of them to iOS 7 and everything began working again. I'm hoping someone here has experienced a similar problem and/or has some other ideas to allow my to use iOS 8 on my home network. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I had this problem on my iPhone 5 after upgrading to ios8 yesterday and it was really irritating me!

I tried several things suggested on the forums, but to no avail, but in the end the solution was simple!

If you go to your wi-fi settings and select the 'i' on your chosen network, all you need to do is to over type the displayed DNS setting with Googles 8.8.8.8 and hey presto all will be restored!

I don't know why it works, but it does, I guess that the new operating system somehow corrupts the DNS settings????

I hope that this helps any readers.

HI

Yesterday I upgraded my iPhone 5 to iOS 8. My iPad 3 and my PC computer suddenly suffered horrific broadband speeds and the iPhone 5 was barely internet usable. The moment I switched off wifi on my iPhone 5 all the wifi devices immediately gained full broadband speed.

To cure the problem I worked all day trying every reset possible. I plugged my iPhone 5 into my PC for itunes to try restoring and still the iPhone was jamming my broadband router/wifi. My PC USB is able to charge my iPhone due to a booster driver which will become very relevant in a moment.

As it was my iPhone was totally jamming Broadband. It was not downloading anything so why I can't answer but the cure I can. I found this totally by accident and managed to prove it as the Broadband speed tests on all wifi connected systems enabled me to repeat the jamming and clearing of the problem.

The cure was to unplug the charger lead! Immediately I did that I had full speed on the iPhone 5 and all the other wifi devices! Plug it back in and it all ground to a halt again. This might not work for everyone but it explains why my iPhone was still jamming when it was plugged into my PC as it was still receiving power.

If like me your idevice is having a wifi problem, you've tried everything you can think of and you tend to leave it plugged in and powered a lot, try unplugging the power charging cable. It instantly fixed my problem, weird but true! I really hope there is an update to stop this. I hope this helps somebody.

UPDATE

Further to my post regarding unplugging the power cable to enable wifi on my iPhone 5 and to stop it jamming my router/wifi I have found another odd problem. I turned my iPhone 5 on this morning while it was not connected to the charger lead and it jammed the Internet again. It also had an unusable broadband connection.

I had to plug the charger cable in and then unplug it and that fixed the problem and enabled itself and everything else on my wifi to work.

Does anyone know how to fix this! To have to plug the charger lead in and out to fix wifi connectivity is so odd.
