Mapping Service?

Hi All

1 G data normally last me an entire month. Since Last week something is using up all my data and normally under Cellular you can see a breakdown of what uses your data. Right at the bottom there is a link called System Services and if I click on that I can see Mapping Service is using up all my data? I have turned off everyting possible that I think can have any impact to this but its still using my data. I have even turned off location services (which was not turned off before and previous months I did not have any problems) but its still using up my data?

Please help???

HI, i thought that here nobody from Cyprus!

Was to Cyprus 29.06-06.07 for holidays. Bought an MTN prepaid sim card and the internet package 500mb for 16€. I was suprised in the morning when all my package gone to mapping services! Because of that i spent 48€ on 3 packages of 500mb just for one week!!!

but when i returned to my native country Belarus, mapping services uses not more than 3mb in a week! Same situation in neigbourhood country Poland.

IT seems the problem is in operators settings.

Oh I'm sorry to hear that about your holiday. I called them and they seem to think that it is an automatic download from apple and that I should switch of cellular data and restrict only to wifi to let the download complete. Ive been only on wifi for the last 3 days and the mapping services havent moved one byte. I think MTN Cyprus have no idea what's really going on or the dont know how to fix it

I have the same problem with my ipad.

This problem is definitely from apple, not any network service provider's problem. Consider auto manufacturers' recalling their faulty cars. For instance, if the gear box of an auto maker's car is faulty globably, one cannot blame local auto dealers. One can complain to the local dealers though. But it is the manufacturer's resposibility to fix it. In this case, apple must come up a solution to resolve this issue and compendate customers' loss.

If only Vodacom's clients have this issue, then it might be the network service provider's problem.

Maybe test not turning off your device and see how it goes. I feel the mapping service chowing less data if I don't turn off my ipad. It might not make any sense, but it costs you nothing to try.

Apple must fix this issue ASAP!

DOn't quite see the logic in you automakers and gearbox argument... If you actually read the entire blog you may understand more about the situaltion. Its NOT Apple, Vodacom compensated me after the complain, AND fixed the problem after my complain. After I reported it, the problem was resolved. So first get your facts straight before you start making unrelative comparisons to automakers when it comes to network related problems. Follow the blog before you just come out of nowhere and acting as if you know what's going on. Maybe you'll actually find the solution to the problem like the rest of us have. If it was Apple, there would have been millions complaining all over the world, it would have made CNN headlines, as Samdung would have paid for such a story to be covered...

Hi guys, I'm from Namibia, I am also having the exact same problem with with my iphone, and its not just me, my friends and family as well. MTC is our service provider, and I have been complaining to them, but they keep blaming the location services and it is the iphone's fault for racking up 1Gig's of data in a matter of hours! So if anybody figures this out, please let us know!!

I don't think that is what caused the problem. It was off.

What I found is helpful is that you'd better don't switch off your device. So far it works. Mapping service has only chowed about 10 mb since then. I guess this is normal? Or, maybe the problem has been resolved and has nothing to do with not switching off my ipad? I am not sure, but I certainly don't want to test this.

Good luck

Just logged a call with Vodacom on this for my wife. 20 mb in 5 mins after loading data, and 92 mb today with no use of the device by her... too scared to run up data. Vodacom confirmed to that it is a Apple issue. I reset stats prior to this and no apps are showing traffic of any impact except system services and specifically mapping services.... The lady said it is referred to back office as it is a apple issue and they will fix it ?

Question , what is mapping services used for as it is a system service and we have zero control over it. How can it use that much data and Apple is quiet about this ? I think they need to refund us the cost of the data or the data to the networks.

I Still don't get why is only 2 providers for now? (Mtn/vodacom)

the answer i get from apple about mapping services was the maps and gps location.

what about that other providera don't used maps?

what I have done is to restore my iPhone 5s and switch off the bacround app refresh.

i let location services ON and seems that I don't have any high usage any more.

i Do have friends with iPhone 5c who still have the same issue and yheir usage is above 8GB. they have restor and switch off the Backround and nothing change.

so no solution for all devices yet.

Hi,

Just wanted to let you guys know that we are experiencing the same problem here in Namibia with MTC as our service provider. Lost 1.4GB data last month to Mapping Services and actually checked just now that I have lost 400MB in the past 2hours.

Personally, I think it has something to do with the latest iOS update

I have the 5s, by the way. .
