ios 7.1.2 update stopped 1/3 way in

My update hung as well. Unfortunately, my lock/power button doesn't work so I was unable to force a reboot. I was able to find a small program for my PC called reiboot. The program let me put the phone into, and then back out of, recovery mode. Once I took it out of recovery mode, the phone was able to boot up normally. This only took a few minutes and saved me the trouble of either waiting for the battery to run out or doing a full restore from iTunes.

It's a simple fix, but I have to agree that it may not work for idiots.

I know 20 people who updated without any freezes except one who had jailbroken that phone in the past. Even so, a reset fixed it.

Mine doesn't seem to be working either. I did a hard reset and the update didn't take. When I tried again this morning, my iPhone shows that I need to connect it to iTunes. When I connect it to iTunes, it tells me that the phone is in recovery mode and I need to "restore" it.

Any suggestions? I don't want to lose any photos, etc on it.

I'm surprised so many people are having such long update times. I did my OTA update last night; and it took 15 minutes from beginning to end.

That's about how long it took mine as well. Considering there are likely millions of updates going on without a problem its probably the norm.

My Lock button doesn't work to do the hard reset, anyone has an idea what I should do??

Same thing happened to me except ive been waiting for around 9 hours and nothings happend

You will need to restore it. Your stuff is already lost; that's why you need to make regular backups using iCloud and/or iTunes, and certainly before updating your software.

Me to it does the same thing but for me it's been 11 hour and it's still stuck 1/3

Mine had the same problem last night.

Black screen with apple white logo.

Stopped at 80% and left it there whole night.

In the morning was still there stucked.

Pressed power buttow together with home button.

iPad turned down and then back on.

It was updated and working fine.

Unreal, so many issues with such minor update. I'm afraid for the BIG IOS 8 update in the fall.

List some of those "so many issues."

The phone stalled for hours and I'm now having to restore from scratch due to this stupid, faulty update.

Plus I just lost a week's photos, messages and memories.

I'm also now late for work.
