iTunes 11.3 freezing when refreshing podcasts

I downloaded iTunes 11.3 yesterday and each time I have refreshed my podcast subscriptions since then I've had to 'Force Quit' due to the application freezing. When I try the second time it's better, though still slow. Anyone else have this problem? 11.2 was fine for me.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:

☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)

☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.

☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.

The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select

SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages

from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select

View ▹ Show Log List

from the menu bar at the top of the screen.Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then try the action that you're having trouble with again. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.

The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of which is irrelevant to solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.

Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.

Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.

Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.

why shouldn't I use a laptop as a desktop?

as to it being to small - it never was until 11.3 and if it is as according to what she said it is for Maverick then shouldn't Apple have told me so? The 13" is still available on their website

but mostly I chose it because for my kind of eyesight the 13 " screen is the most comfortable and they don't offer that with desktops. If they'd offer a desktop with a 13 " or even 11 " screen I might be tempted.

But not Apple - never again. I feel cheated, betrayed burglared - you name it.

hi spiller

mine worked fine too

and the more I thought about it the more outrageous I found a sales pitch that tried to make me buy a machine 2,5 times the price of the one I have which would run the same flawed iTunes that gave me all the trouble. And then the idea that a 500 GB hard drive with my turnover of podcasts would last me longer than a few months

Did you in NOT LIST VIEW Open the ITUNES DOWNLOAD WINDOW to see if your system was still downloading stuff and if so clear it along with taking of the check mark to allow simultaneous downloads.

As I posted a couple of times before - cannot find documentation on that Download Window - must have been added recently to help users control downloads along with being able to control when individual items are downloaded.

YES, i did. The download window has been around for a while, by the way.

Look, you tremendous *******, many people have suddenly started having this problem, with wildly different system specifications. I do video editing stuff on this laptop that requires vastly more hard drive space and RAM than my podcasts, and my laptop handles it just fine.

Apple released a bugged update - end of story.

Logic is apparently not your forte - therefore I conclude that you consider yourself to be a geek.

Why should a 16 GB Ram correct the iTunes 11.3 mess?

and why on earth should spiller not use the multiple download option?

If you buy something else than a Mac are you as willing to accept all those caveats like for example accepting that a car sold to you with a top speed of 140 km/hr should never be driven at more than 80 and if you want something to drive at 140 you should buy another one with an equal flaw.

hi stoic

MyPodcasts View is the one to operate - refresh all button left top - though it is slow and tries to lure you into/impose on you automatics you may not want it works even though the info as to what you have and have not in the right bar doesn't synch in any way what my Finder says but fortunately there is the storage in Time Capsule ;-)

I haven't been to List View in more than a week and I won't dare to go there before an update promising to deal with it shows up.

For the record: second Thursday after initial 11.3 offering has passed - no update! (Thursday is update day in Germany)

Whatever Apple tells its Japanese help desk our problems are not figuring high on their to-do-list and isn't it remarkable that none of the oh so keen to bash Apple journalist crowd is interested in publishing it? To my mind that is the greatest stink of it all and suggests to me that journalists are happy to get walked by Apple on a very tight leash while parading themselves before the likes of me like independent know-all geeks they perform like Apple's own PR-minions.

Please Fix this. It is extremely annoying. The only reason i buy ipods is for the ease of use in syncing my podcasts through itunes. Since upgrading to 11.3 itunes is completely useless. updating my podcasts and syncing my ipod was a a completely painless part of my morning routine. Now i have found it is taking 30min to 2 hours to do the same thing that used to happen automatically in less than 3 min on the same machine. the only thing that changed was my itunes version.

And wile i am complaining, i tried to reimport my library, in the hopes that it would reconfigure the database. but now i am finding out that there is no longer a way to remove a podcast from your listing but still keep the files on your hard drive. now when you remove a podcast it automatically deletes all the files.

i have a large archive of old podcasts i want to keep, but that no longer put out new episodes.

This worked for me.

Use Pathfinder or Terminal or some other app that can show hidden files.

Go to /users/your name/Library/Preferences and delete all the com.apple.itunes plist files. This will allow you to start up iTunes long enough to go into podcasts and change the view to My Podcasts or something else.

It's really terrible that Apple hasn't fixed this and, in fact, made things worse with each progressive update. I am at a point where I am willing to pay for an iOS/OSX podcast solution if anyone has any good solutions.
