iTunes 11.3.1 stops working when opened in 'Podcasts' view

After the latest update installed in last few days on Windows 7, iTunes often crashes on startup, at about the time it is accessing iTunes store (fine before the update). It does not happen if iTunes is opened in 'Music' view, but changing then to the 'Podcasts' view and clicking the podcast 'refresh' button causes crash again. It is worse on some user accounts than others.

Have tried:

- Complete reinstallation of iTunes

- Deleting preferences files in the Local and Roaming directories.

- Copying a QT dll to the iTunes program files directory (as mentioned on another thread)

- The other suggestions in this link iTunes for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8: Fix unexpected quits or launch issues

Any ideas?

Same problem -- was looking forward to iTunes update as V 11.3 had all sorts of problems with podcasts as well as issues with calculating memory use on my iPod. However, I got the "iTunes has stopped working" notice upon starting up 11.3.1. After fiddling around with it for a bit -- I deleted it and reinstalled the old buggy 11.3 version and will wait until Apple gets its act together.

I don't have all day to fool around trying to get iTunes to work right. I'll put up with the terrible 11.3 version over the doesn't-work-at-all 11.3.1. You'd think Apple would test these versions before they let something this faulty loose on their customers. This reflects very poorly on Apple and the iTunes developer team. After all, Apple has always been ahead of the game when it came to intuitive, trouble-free programming. Not anymore.

Mine does the same. Rest of iTunes appears to be working fine but the moment I try to do anything involving podcasts page it crashes with the message saying 'iTunes has stopped working'. Very frustrating. Tried the various things listed in this thread so far like running in safe mode, opening as admin etc & doesn't stop the problem at all.

Hopefully a fix is found soon, wish Apple would properly test their updates before actually sending them out. I'd rather have old software than fancy new stuff that doesn't work.

I'm not sure what I'm gaining or losing by doing it this way, but I've wrestled with this problem and read the feedback here, and I'm finding that whenever I open iTunes, as long as I always open it in safe mode, I seem to be okay. I don't appear to have lost any functionality (except that it looks like I have to manually instruct iTunes to sync to my connected devices even though I have the "Automatically sync when this device is connected" checkbox checked, but oh well...). Maybe this will hold me over until Apple figures out how to fix this problem? My fingers are crossed....

Itunes 11.3 for Mac had an 80MG update last week for podcast issues.

If you have not checked for fixes to 11.3 do so and update them.

If you still have a problem after updating with latest patches with podcasts log an incident on APPLE support site and set up a call after tech has viewed your problem.

in earlier versions of 11 looks like no-one who had problems with podcasts brought it to the attention of apple support - choosing to stay on a user group web site instead.

Not true, Cloudy -- I spoke with Tech support the day after the 11.3 update ruined what was previously trouble-free iTunes functionality. We tried various troubleshooting steps, uninstall, reinstall, etc -- but the tech guy I spoke with didn't have a clue. He kept putting me on hold to ask another person what to do.

I also filed an incident report the same day.

PC's and Mac are tricky when it comes to updates -- are you talking about the release update from 11.1 or 11.2 to 11.3 or having 11.3 and small fix update referencing problems with podcasts that came after.

Apple does not monitor the user communities - but in the case of the Mac 11.3 problem - the person who worked directly with apple support - gave them the thread number so they could review logs etc he had posted.

Unfortunately that one turned into a gripe fest so I stopped following it.

As to working with support - they need to be able to get as much information as they can - in order to replicate the problem. In any software bugs can sit for years before someone does the exact thing needed to trigger the problem.

I am on Windows 7 and the version Before 11.3.1.2 iTunes loaded up as a White page and then just sat there taking up 100% of that CPU core and nothing happened. After several tries, force quit of the application I had to install the old version which you can not get form Apple's site. At least I don't find it and Apple is notorious for not providing earlier versions of anything even if the current version doesn't work at all... It's bad costumer relations, extremely irritating. I found the earlier version on filehippo and I was lucky there considering how INCREDIBLY LONG it took Apple to fix this simple issue... Allot of people had a none working iTunes for a month or so... Again. Incredibly bad costumer relations.

This version, 11.3.1.2 started out the same. A blank White window with iTunes consuming 100% of one core (Incredible they have not made this a multi core app yet, it really needs it...) and the memory slowly creeping up to 600 MB and then stopped. After 5 min iTunes actually loaded and I was able to refresh podcasts and download...

Even though it's an improvement over the earlier version that iTunes actually loads now, after a while, it still refreshes podcasts really slow. If you manually refresh a feed iTunes just freeze for 10-15 seconds Before refreshing the feed. This started with the version Before 11.3.1.2... So there is still a loading problem with iTunes and a refresh problems with podcasts, still...
