Upgraded to iTunes 11.4 and now it won't sync my iPhone 5s-sync button is greyed out.

I upgraded to iTunes 11.4 today, and now I'm not able to sync my iPhone 5s. The sync button is greyed out. I tried reinstalling, reauthorizing, signing in again in iTunes and my iPhone. I also restored my phone twice...not sure what else to do. I'm running Snow Leopard (10.6.8) on an iMac Intel Core Duo. Thanks in advance for your help.

also have the grey sync button issue on my 2006 macbook core duo.

the best ive done so far is what egg and joffrey suggested.

my music actually was syncing fine but slow over wifi for a while after trying eggs method. but i stopped it to switch to lightening cable and i just cant for the life of me get it to work again. ive reinstalled 11.4 with the "mods" so many times and with different versions of the files. phone is a 6 plus 128. the whole point of getting 128 was to put music on it.... since i have 9000 songs in my itunes..

Hardly unfounded, in my opinion. The kext shipped with iTunes 11.4 is 64-bit only, and will not work on a 32-bit only system. That is the issue reported by most of the people in this thread. If you're reporting that Snow Leopard on 64-bit Macs works correctly with OS X 11.4, that's good information to have. I haven't seen a post from someone saying that yet.

If someone says they are running on a 64-bit system, they have a different problem. It may exhibit the same symptoms, it may even involve the same AppleUSBEthernetHost.kext file, but it will still be a different problem with a different solution. This is simply because it is possible to upgrade to working, latest versions of Apple software.

For people looking for a fix: If you are running a 64-bit-capable system (Core 2 Duo or newer), you should just upgrade to a newer OS or at least switch to the 64-bit kernel. This, plus some re-installing of software and such, should resolve your problems.

If you have 32-bit hardware, you may benefit from the suggestions in this thread. If you aren't comfortable with Terminal, I would not recommend tinkering with anything.

elentar, i think you were the first one to come up with the idea of taking 11.3 pieces and using them in 11.4 so i assume you would know something about my "new" problem.

i followed egg's suggestion, which was to only replace the airtraffichost in 11.4 with the 11.3 one, and my sync starts up perfectly(button works, and content shows up as not just a yellow bar), but once it gets to step where it actually should load the music files, it just hangs and never even starts tranvferring music.

the first time i set this up, it worked. but i stopped part way thought to vwitch to cable. from then on it would not work no matter what i could think of.

if you have any more ideas I would really appreciate it!

thanks

I was just working with Apple Tech Support and my issue was resolved without uninstalling anything. I have a MacBook Pro with OS X and an iPhone 5s with iOS 8. Here are the steps he had me complete to get my phone syncing again:

  1. In iTunes, click File
  2. Click Library
  3. Click Organize Library
  4. Check “Reorganize files in the folder “iTunes Media”” and click Ok
  5. Click iTunes, Select Advanced, and Reset.
  6. Click Ok.
  7. Close iTunes and Resync device.

Good luck!

As Greg Earle pointed out, not all Snow Leopard machines are 32-bit. Snow Leopard is just the last OS X version that supported 32-bit so it's the newest version anyone on a 32-bit system can run. If your CPU is an Intel Core Duo (not Core 2 Duo) or earlier, it's 32-bit.

It's hard to find a download of 11.3.1, but it does exist. I got mine here:

I haven't really contributed anything new to the thread, just collected a few different strategies into one suggestion that worked for me.

You might want to try reboot the computer and your phone, to see if that clears up the problem. If it doesn't, you might have some other issue... You could try re-doing the iTunes 11.4 install and downgrade of AirTrafficHost, but I have no idea if it would help. If your sync button starts the sync normally but hangs, there might be something else like not enough free space on the phone or something going on.

I'm running the same setup as you and all the other people running 10.6.8 are. Snow Leopard, 2006 Macbook. I tried cwa2's method, but I couldn't delete a few things, such as the MobileDevices.bundle, because "I didn't have permission to open the files." I tried then running a repair on permissions on my Macbook. Afterwards, I tried deleting them again, to no avail. From there, I completely uninstalled iTunes 11.4 using appzapper, like someone else suggested, and downloaded 11.3.1 again from the link provided by another user.

It shows that it is indeed running 11.3.1, but my iPhone 5s still won't sync. I have no idea what to do from here, except hope that Apple will address the issue soon and add 32-bit compatibility.

Thank you!!! This worked for me as well. I can now sync via USB my iPhone 6 on the modified 11.4 iTunes under Snow Leopard running on an old MacMini. As you directed, I ran the KextUtilityFix and then replaced the AirTrafficHost.framework dir that 11.4 installed with an older version via Time Machine.

It was very frustrating to have been in the midst of migrating from my old iPhone 4s to the new 6 and finding myself stuck - unable to install my apps, music, etc. - because the "new and improved" iTunes killed the ability to sync devices.

Looking forward to an official fix from Apple soon... but not holding my breath.

Upgraded to iTunes 11.4 and now it won't sync my iPhone 5s-sync button is greyed out.
