iMessage group turned into a Group MMS after installing iOS 8

I just found the answer.... it one of the number in the group chat the a android number tell somebody with a iPhone in the group to remove that number than text back and try it should work. Cuz I had the same issues u had too and I just found out what was going on.

I am having the same problem on my iPhone 5.

I Am having the same problem. I have noticed that it is only when I am sending messages to a group imessage, it sends as a text message. This makes the entire group thread send as a MMS. When other people in the same thread send messages, it is received as an imessage but nothing I send goes through as an imessage in the group thread.

I had the same problem on my iPhone 5. I deleted the entire group message history, and started up a new group message with the same two other people. It registered correctly and I'm now able to iMessage via this group. If you're not worried about losing your group message history, I'd try this.

In iOS 7 I was in an iMessage group with 11 people. After updating to iOS 8 I'm the only one that sends messages as text.. Any idea to solve this without deleting the thread? I really want to save the history.

I'm having the exact same issue, but it's not even with every group message thread. The problem exists for me with just one thread in particular. I can text all the individual participants of the thread on iMessage but when I try to use the group thread I am unable to send it as an iMessage. I still receive all the messages over iMessage but I can only send outbound as MMS.

I tried disabling and re-enabling iMessage, turning my phone off and on, and turning the antenna on and off to no avail. I don't have problems with any other existing or new iMessage threads yet with either a single person or multiple people. I did not have this issue before updating.

iPhone 4S, iOS8.

Same issue for me. Deleting the group message history fixed it, but that kind of kills the whole point of the new "Details" feature for anything pre-iOS8 unfortunately. Hopefully someone comes up with another method.

This worked for me...go to Settings/Messages and click on Send & Receive. You should see two sections, "You can be reached by iMessage at..." and "Start New Conversations From" - for me at least, both sections have my phone number and Apple ID associated email address. In the first section "You can be reached by iMessage at..." touch the email address, deselecting it. My group messages became iMessages again after that. Hope this helps someone else!

I'd just add to restart your phone after deselecting the email address. The group thread didn't switch back for me until I restarted my iPhone.

That did not work for me. I had to recreate the group conversation, add myself, send a message, then "leave" the conversation so I didn't keep getting copies of my own messages.

Un-attach your Apple ID with iMessage and log back in. It worked for me.

Go to: Settings --> Messages and click (touch) the top field "Apple ID: xxxx@xxx.xxx" and then click (touch) the "Sign Out" field on the popup menu with the title "iMessage Account". Then, follow the instructions to log back in.
