iMessage group turned into a Group MMS after installing iOS 8

Just as the title says.. The replies I get are iMessage but I can only send as texts.

It's only for this one certain group.. other groups are all iMessage groups.

I've tried everything from resetting the network settings to turning group messaging on and off.

I've also turned my iPhone 5 on and off and nothing seems to work.

Does anyone else have this problem?

I apologize for the second post, but I needed to edit something on my first one and I couldn't figure out how to do that.

Un-attach your Apple ID with iMessage and log back in. It worked for me.

Go to: Settings --> Messages and click (touch) the field labeled "Send & Receive". On the next screen, click (touch) the top field, "Apple ID: xxxx@xxx.xxx", and then click (touch) the "Sign Out" field on the popup menu with the title "iMessage Account". Then, follow the instructions to log back in.

I have literally tried all of these solutions down to the letter and I can't get this one group chat to get back to a regular group. It is still a 'Group MMS' and I guess some of the recipients (all iphone users) see my messages as imessages but others do not. I also have a third party keyboard installed to use swipe since IOS 8 allows that now but i've tried uninstalling it and the problem has not gone away either. Any other possible things I could try?

I Tried all suggestions ... Kept rebooting ... Nothing worked until I did the following:

iOS 8.0.2 MMS Not Working via wi-fi

To fix

Settings > general > reset > reset all settings

Then

Settings > messages > send and receive... Touch your appleid > sign out > then log back in

I verified that this worked by putting iPhone in airplane mode with Wi-Fi turned on and was finally able to send a MMS.

THis his worked for me ... YMMV

thanks to all who made suggestion!

i deleted the entire group MMS and restarted my phone. The group iMessage then reappeared up to the point where it switched over to Group MMS. The MMS messages and imessages sent by the group after that point were gone, but the all of the previous message history was preserved. Back up your phone, and then give that a try. If it doesn't work, you can still restore the group mms to your phone from the backup.

I had exact problem (group with 3 iphone users including myself switched to a group mms, however the two others still sent imessages but i sent text messages) described and the only suggestion that actually worked was deleting the thread. After restart, the thread did reappear in the messages, but only the imessages I had received from them the day I deleted the thread remained in the thread. Everything else is gone, but it was totally worth it.

Yes, I deleted the entire thread. I do not know how it preserved the history. Like I said, and now cwstones has said, this will restore the conversation to the point prior to where the thread converted to group MMS (where you begin seeing green messages or "sent as a text message"). Anything you or other group participants sent as a message (both as imessage or text) will be gone, but anything prior to that point will be preserved. Back up your phone first in case this solution doesn't work for you, and then (worst case scneario) you can restore the Group MMS thread to your phone.

I keep seeing stranger and stranger things every other day with iMessages:

- Respondents from group messages replies come back as individual responses - not part of the thread.

- The audio function is dodgy as anything

- Today, iMessage mixed up contacts and their texts - very embarrassing

This is all a bit bizarre - at first, I wondered if it may have had something to do with me being on the beta trial of Yosemite but my family are having the same issues and they are on Mavericks. Definitely bugs in IOS8 I think. Perhaps they moved the guys from Maps to Messages.... :-)
