iPhone 5s with iOS 8 connection problems to Ford Sync system.

I just upgraded my iPhone 5s's operating system to the iOS 8 today. At the end of the workday, I got in my car an plugged my iPhone into my car's USB charger. I have a Ford Fusion with the Microsoft Sync system and once my phone is connected and in the vehicle, the car usually detects my phone through the USB and over bluetooth. The connection to the phone for call purposes works fine, but when I go to use the Sync connection with my phone over USD and Bluetooth, the system takes longer than normal to recognize my phone and then when it does, it displays what music is playing, but there is no sound. This problem did not begin until I downloaded the new iOS today. This morning on my drive to work with the previous iOS, there were no issues.

Please advise on how to correct this problem. I drive a lot for work and the Sync system is a huge help in passing the time. I can easily change my phone, not my car.

Thank you,

Ramos

WE have the same car and this is the work around we have figured out. I am giving Apple the benifit of the doubt here thinking they have a built in safety feature. You cant instigate a call from the phone and have the cars audio take over the call. If you use the cars command system and get it to place the call then it comes through the cars audio system. However if , like my wife, you cant or dont want to use the cars voice opperated system, place your call as normal, when it answers look at your phone screen and tap on the audio button and select ( in our case) the Mazda option. The call is then taken over by the Mazda 3's system. Not perfect but workable.

I'm having the same problem as being reported here with an iPhone 6: Ford Sync no longer accepts voice commands when the iPhone is connected to the car via the USB port. I can get audio playback via the Bluetooth Audio feature (after I paired the iPhone with Ford Sync), but that's about it.

Previously, I was able to use Ford Sync with my previous iPhone 4S running iOS 7.1 with no problems at all. After I upgraded the iPhone 4S to iOS 8 (before I got the iPhone 6), Ford Sync said that the device "doesn't support voice commands", which it did perfectly before upgrading to iOS 8.

Since the Ford Sync software hasn't changed, but the Apple iOS version did, clearly the problems rests with Apple breaking the support that it had with Ford Sync. I can only hope that someone finds another way to get it working again or that Apple will fix this very annoying problem.

After doing some more searching online, I came across this "sync community" forum that has a similar topic about iOS 8 iPhones not working with Ford Sync anymore. One of the posters claimed to have spoken with Sync support personnel, who told him that there is a compatibility issue with iOS 8:

I had similar problems with IOS 8 and my iPhone 5 in a 2011 Ford F-150 SYNC Nav system(they don't do software updates to this - last one was in 2011).

Last Friday before upgrading(from IOS 7.1.1), streaming audio from TuneIn Radio app and Bluetooth phone connections worked great - no problems. Once I upgraded to IOS 8 - at first, Bluetooth connections would drop. I tried clearing the paired connection on both ends. Then, Master resetting SYNC once and re-Pairing. Results: bluetooth connection would be made, but no audio - neither streaming internet radio or phone call. I would make a phone call, but when the other end picked up - no audio. I read about several people here having some success doing a hard iPhone reset. I tried that. No joy. On the way into work today, after another SYNC master reset, I tried making a call. The call went through - but still no Bluetooth audio. Had to go to iPhone and manually shift audio from SYNC to iPhone to participate in the call. After that, I hung up successfully on the iPhone, but the SYNC system was still off hook and remained that way until I got to work and turned off the system. Then I came out later with my iPhone's bluetooth ON, got into the vehicle, started up and it began playing my streaming internet audio like nothing had ever happened! Bluetooth phone calls work. So far, it appears to be working like before the IOS 8 update . . .

My summary: do at least 2-3 SYNC master resets. Do the same # of iPhone hard resets(hold down Home+Power buttons simultaneously until screen goes black and boot up Apple icon appears). It appears that each reset fixes something and multiple resets fix additional things, until it's all fixed.

Somebody claimed that doing the iPhone hard reset whilst the SYNC bluetooth connection was made seemed to help. That's what I was about to do when it suddenly started working, so can't comment on that.

techno25 is on to something...

I have a 2013 Ford Fusion with Ford Sync. After the iOS 8 update to my iPhone 5s I could not start music play from Sync by using voice or manually. It would only start if I did it on the phone. Additionally, I use Waze and had to reinstall that app to get its audio to play through the car's speakers.

Using techno25's comments and others are read here I hard reset my iPhone 3 times. Then hard reset the Ford Sync back to factory then set up BlueTooth for the phone and Sync. It is all working like before. Thanks!

Hi I'm having a similar problem I have a Ford Focus St and the sync was working fine till this ios8 update the only difference is I can't answer calls unless I answer through the phone and then I can't hear nothing. Music plays fine as far as I can tell I've tried unpairing then pair again and still same problem. Hope they sort this as can't replace my car.
