iPhone 5s with iOS 8 connection problems to Ford Sync system.

I just upgraded my iPhone 5s's operating system to the iOS 8 today. At the end of the workday, I got in my car an plugged my iPhone into my car's USB charger. I have a Ford Fusion with the Microsoft Sync system and once my phone is connected and in the vehicle, the car usually detects my phone through the USB and over bluetooth. The connection to the phone for call purposes works fine, but when I go to use the Sync connection with my phone over USD and Bluetooth, the system takes longer than normal to recognize my phone and then when it does, it displays what music is playing, but there is no sound. This problem did not begin until I downloaded the new iOS today. This morning on my drive to work with the previous iOS, there were no issues.

Please advise on how to correct this problem. I drive a lot for work and the Sync system is a huge help in passing the time. I can easily change my phone, not my car.

Thank you,

Ramos

GOod to see someones issues are solved. I have tried all the suggestions here, updated to 8.02 and still have the same issues. Deleted and reconnected several times hard reboot etc but nothing seems to fix my issue. All else seems good just the car wont pick ip the audio if the call is made from the phone without manually selecting the car as the audio once the call has answered. Been through all the settings and now have hit the proverbial brick wall. It is not the cars system as my Samsung works fine, the 5s worked fine before the upgrade. I am tempted to go back to 7.1.2 but have heard a few horror stories about doing that.

I am sad to report that techno25's suggestions did not work for me. I have an iPhone 6 with iOS 8.0.2. After performing 3 "Master Resets" on Ford SYNC and shutting my iPhone down 3 or 4 times, I reconnected my iPhone to the car & re-established the bluetooth connection, but I continue to have the issue: when I issue a voice command, Ford SYNC's response is always "Voice commands not available with this device." Before my iPhone 6 arrived and before I had upgraded my previous iPhone 4S to iOS 8.0, I never had any issues with Ford SYNC. As soon as I upgraded my iPhone 4S to iOS 8, then the voice commands completely stopped working; effectively defeating the entire purpose of Ford SYNC.

I can get audio playback to work over "bluetooth audio" or USB with Ford SYNC as long as I manually have the audio playback started on the iPhone.

See I had the same issues. But after a day or two, everything worked fine. I have a 2012 Ford Focus.

However, when I updated to IOS 8.0.2, I've had issues with the phone portion of Sync.

I'll turn on my Bluetooth before I start the car. Once I start it, the screen will come up to the phone part and say, "Unkown Dialing". It wont go away until I go to my radio.

If I dial a contact from my iPhone, the sync wont pick up the call even though bluetooth audio on my phone says it's on sync.

This is my last day with the 5s and hope I don't have this BS with my 6 Plus.

Well I got the 6 Plus on Tuesday. Before I even paired the 6 Plus to Sync on my 2012 Focus, I did a Master Reset to the Sync.

Once I got my 6 Plus activated, I paired to Sync. It would go on without any problems like the last time. Note that I haven't updated to IOS 8.0.2. So I tested it by just making a call on my 6 plus. I dialed a number from my phone, but sync wouldn't pick it up even though sync was checked off.

Now, I hit the phone button on my focus and hit redial, and I was able to listen to the call through the car's speakers.

I havent gotten any incoming calls yet so IDK if it's really working.

Keep you posted.

iPhone 6 (technically, iOS 8) problems with connecting to cars has made it onto CNN: http://money.cnn.com/2014/09/24/technology/mobile/iphone-bluetooth

Maybe now Apple will do something about the problem.

I still can't use the Ford Sync voice commands with my iPhone 6 running iOS 8. And, yes, I've done master resets on Ford Sync and the hard reset on the iPhone multiple times. It just doesn't work.

I think I have figured it out.

I did try all the solution proposed but ended up in same boat as IronMan2119. I have iPhone 5S with iOS 8.02

After that I remembered what I had faced 16 years a go Oracle and Oracle client (bunch of IT stuff).

Special characters in host name (in this case phone name), could cause communication issue. I had " 's " in my phone name like John's iphone. I changed phone name to just "John" rebooted phone, master reset sync and got it working calling from sync or receiving call or making call from phone and using sync.

All scenarios tested and worked fine.

I hope this would help everyone.

So I did what Forest95 suggested and still wouldn't work. I took the " 's " so it would just say my full name (first last) iPhone. I tried dialing from my iphone (because sync would pick up when I dialed), and it didn't go through the speakers. Im still waiting for someone to call me so I can see if the controls work and see if the calls don't drop after 2 seconds.

I've had this issue ever since the upgrade to 8.0.2. Try turning the volume up on the phone itself, after you've adjusted to "normal" levels using the vehicle controls. Shouldn't work this way, but it's been happening to me, that's the only way I can deal with it. If I rely solely on the vehicle controls for volume, can barely hear the music. Then when I switch back to another source, such as FM, the volume is cranked to the max, I risk blowing the speakers.. Apple, where's the fix for this Bluetooth stuff?

I Have 2011 Ford Explorer and today I noticed the same issue after updating to iOS 8.02. Tried to delete connection and re pair the phone with sync again as a new phone over Bluetooth and it didn't work out. Then while phone is connected to sync over Bluetooth I made a hard reset to my phone by pressing both home and lock buttons until the apple logo pop up again then like magic every thing worked again just like before. I didn't need to do a master reset to my sync. Hope this can help. Regards.
