IOS 8 lost camera roll

I just did the IOS8 update on my Iphone 5s and now I have no album for camera roll and instead it has 'Recently Added' which only has 25 photos instead of my 1000+ photos I had originally before the update. I still have all my photos on the collections bit but not in an album like before the update.

Help please?

Yes, it has changed. The Camera Roll is gone. You can make your albums as before.

I sure hope Apple does fix the Camera Roll but since they put out an update and didn't bring it back I'm doubting they will.

That would be a fair assumption. There are changes in EVERY iOS or OSX (or in Windows and Android for that matter) and there will always be a vocal minority who seem to think that nothing should have changed from the previous version, which begs the question of why bring out new software at all. As with all updates and upgrades in the past, this will be forgotten about soon (and new complaints will emerge when another version is released) Has happened with every release if you care to look. iOS4, 5, 6 and 7 were all absolute disasters if you believe a small group in a troubleshooting forum.

Good luck

Pete

Or, a group of dedicated and experienced users points out a design change that the software engineers did not fully think through, and the software is changed back too. This happens all the time as well - restoration of the Start menu to Windows 8 leaps to mind as one. I know there are examples to pull from the Apple archives as well - an update restores a function that had been removed - and I'm sure someone's memory is better on that score than mine. Anyhow we won't know which this is until a release or two from now - maybe 8.1 - after Apple has had a chance to digest the feedback that its customers have offered up. (If the prospect of Apple reversing field is inconceivable then it raises the question of why bother offer a "Feedback" option for "workflow" or "ease of use" issues.)

Sometimes too when Apple makes a change, it leaves in a switch to retain the old, familiar and well-worn-in behavior - like the option to retain the "Classic" view in Mail, or to default new Finder windows to a series of icons arranged according to user preference, not that (IMHO) useless "All My Files" view. Perhaps if enough people express unhappiness with the way in which a new change has been implemented, Apple will provide the old way as an option. Perhaps not too, but certainly if users don't complain, Apple will never know. Again until Apple has had time to consider the Feedback, it's hard to say what they're going to do.

Here's an example that comes to mind - pretty sure I have it right (and I'm pretty sure I'll be corrected if I don't): iOS 7 had a pretty flat look to it, and, when it was introduced, customers complained that it was hard to read the text, or to tell what design elements were intended to be, e.g., page-back arrows. In a later release of iOS 7, Apple introduced the ability to make the system font bolder, as well as to add visual cues to the page-back text.

Apple reconsiders decisions if the complaints are well-founded, and, I'm sure it helps in offering Feedback to be concise and polite, and to offer explanations rather than simple rants -

This is the least user friendly version of iOS to date and I can't explain if anyone cares. And I agree about the experienced user recognizing chanes as bad. I remember one change in iOS 7 that was brought back I remember they took the split view out of the calendar app and developers freaked out. I believe they added back in for the public GM release though.

TThis is a truly awful forced change. If you want some people to choose this fine, but GIVE ME A SETTING YO OPT OUT OF THIS MESS!!! Your update info didn't even warn me of this change and how screwed up it is! I think I may switch from Apple finally! I'm done With the mess they are making of things! I have no desire to pay to switch to a new phone with apple that makes my life more complicated!!

Like many of the posters here, I'm unhappy about this change to the Photos app. But Apple doesn't read these discussion boards (except insofar as it must to enforce the terms of service), so if you have something to say about the change, you should post a *polite* and reasoned comment at https://www.apple.com/feedback/ . Apple does read those. Thanks!

Please Apple bring the Camera roll back. I'm so used to look for my photos in the camera roll, and now I can't find any photo. There is no advantage dropping the good camera roll. It was very good to have it, so please bring it back. I'm sure, we are a big community missing it. Thanks.

Please, please describe your concern to Apple at https://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html !
