iPhone 5 home button issue iOS 8

iPhone 5 / 64GB / AT&T, previous OS: 7.1.2

After upgrading to iOS 8, single click the home button would sporadically bring up the multitasking screen, instead of going back to the home screen. This appears to happen regardless of what app I single click the home button in.

I have since performed the following:

1) Settings / General / Reset / Reset All Settings

2) Restore using iTunes, set up as a new phone

The issue persists.

I have then downgraded back to 7.1.2. The issue no longer appears. So this does not appear to be a hardware issue.

Anyone else seeing this?

Even though we must report it anyway - and fill the details in the text - it's interesting, to say the least, that iOS 8.0 is not an option in the "Which version of iOS are you using?" list yet.

If this is "just" a codebase bug that affects a huge number of iPhone 5 (maybe 4s too, apparently) users, which was already present at beta-testers' phones, and is now going for one week without solution… Apple screwed up big time.

Interesting indeed. I just left it at "Select Version". And using Chrome, the "Submit Feedback" becomes invisible for me.

I can confirm it happens in 4S too. Almost sure it has something to do about some iOS code "prioritizing" TouchID devices, as I haven't seen any of them with this problem

But what leaves me upset about this is that with a little hope, I googled about this. I was really convinced it was a hardware problem. So there will be alot of people who won't do this and find out what really happened, and then, Apple could not notice this.

I'm experiencing this same bug. iPhone 5. After going to Settings > Passcode > Turn Passcode Off, the problem seems to have disappeared. I then turned it back on and the bug is still gone. It was happening for me about 5%-10% of all home button clicks. Now I can't get it to happen even after pressing it over 400 times.

Does this work for anyone else? Does everyone with this problem have Passcode on to begin with?

I tried turning the passcode off and on again but unfortunately the bug still persists on my iPhone 5. I also tried it with a reset (hold home and sleep/wake until restart) in between turning it off and on. At first it seemed to be gone but after a little bit it came back and got progressively worse until it was back to the original state of the problem. Very VERY frustrating :-/

Here is how to "fix" the bug. Turn off the "Show In App Switcher" located under Settings> Mail,Contacts,Calendars > Contacts Section.

Note: this will turn off the recent list at the top as well When you double click. I don't care to see this recent list and now when I press the home button ONCE it closes the app I am using.

I Just tried this but still get the same issue after switching off both recent and favourite contacts in the in app switcher

I have tried all the "fixes" so far and.... still doing the same thing. UGH! As far as Apple telling the one guy to go to an Apple store to fix it, I hope to hear back from him to let us know if the "geniuses" were able to fix it. From what I can tell, I am agreeing with 90% of you that say it is a software prioritizing issue for non-touch ID devices. Hopefully 8.0.1 will be out soon and fix this issue because it looks like I will be waiting for a while to get my 128 GB iPhone 6+.
