apple do something &@#¥=###&€@!!!!!!!!
Workaround for "No Service", without restart or reset iPad 2. Go to Settings > iCloud and wait about 7 seconds. It's only! After this, the "No Service" will change to "Searching" and the GSM network will return to operate... Tested several times and OK!
Yeah, as I told many pages ago, that works perfectly for me as well...
Turn off: Settings -> Privacy -> Location Services -> System Services -> Cell Network Search.
I'm trying the Idea by Shani as follows: Turn Off Cell Network Searching
Turn off: Settings -> Privacy -> Location Services -> System Services -> Cell Network Search.
Will see if that works.
I Was having this same issue and powering off and on only fixes it short term and then gones back to NO SERVICE.
MY solution working for me right now is similar to some already suggested with a slight variation,
Easy STEPS: go to settings, and choose icloud, once in iCloud, choose icloud drive, once in iCloud drive scroll to the very bottom and you will see cellular data, it is currently defaulting to ON. TURN OFF cellular data. This steps prevents icloud drive from backing up to iCloud Drive using cellular data plan, it will only do so while on WIFI.
I am thinking that everytine iCloud drive is trying to back up (eg when device connects to wifi) it is turning off the cellular data plan (in background) to prevent high data plan hit, but since it is Is defaulted to ON setting, it does not revert back as its already ON (erroneously)
i hope this makes sense. It's currently working for me. I will report back here if it stops working.
I also turned Cell Network Search OFF and so far (10 hours) later I have an apparently stable 3G connection (after an initial reboot).
Even going to airplane mode (3G off) and then back (3G on) does not prevent the device from finding a (new) 3G connection.

Updated to 8.0.2 - that has fixed it 😉
Yup downloaded 8.0.2 this morning everything is working perfectl.
INteresting.... it did not work for me. In fact, I had done some of the suggestions on here and thought it might have been solved/better. Upgraded to 8.0.2 last night and while I was using it on WiFi the ATT signal went away and No Service re-appeared. Rebooted this AM. It is back, so we'll see how long that lasts....
Updated to 8.0.2 but still having issues on iPad 2. Also, keep getting cant download. Later or retry. Never had that before until iOS 8.
The best thing I did was roll back to ios 7.1.2. My iPad 2 runs faster and never gives me a problem. I will keep ios 8 on my ipad3 Only.
iOs 8.02 is not solving the problem. Still no service appears on iPad 2.
it is 12h after update to iOS 8.0.2
Me too. Still no service. 😟
I upgraded to 8.0.2 about 5 hours ago and so far so good. I also turned off the cell phone option in iCloud.
