iOS 8 camera roll is missing!!!

The missing camera roll is a nightmare!!!

Worst iOS experience ever. Honestly spoken I am thinking of replacing my Apple stuff by other devices. Again the "greatest" Update ever was promised, but I do not see anything great at all. I realy feel cheated now!

And the missing camera roll really annoys me. The collection is a very bad experience because most of the places are simply wrong and now there is no way to go chronological through all of my photos. Of course I can create an album with all of my photos, but how does it help? Should I add every single new photo I take?

I hope a lot of users are of that opinion so please reply and Apple will here this. Looking forward to the first update!

Thanks for the link. I'm not seeing where Camera Roll has been specifically addressed as no longer being an option, but it may have been changed to All Photos (at a guess). Unfortunately that folder is not visible in the list either, so it amounts to the same thing as far as I'm concerned. Unless I've missed what you were pointing me to in the users manual, I still think there is something wrong. If you've got a specific page number I can look at, I'd appreciate the help getting to it

I found that page 82 describes what I mentioned in an earlier post as maybe being the problem (or at least A problem):

By default, Photos displays a representative subset of your photos when you view by year or by collection. To see all your photos, go to Settings > Photos & Camera, then turn off Summarize Photos.

I read that to mean that turning off Summarize Photos should give the view we are used to seeing, but it doesn't actually do anything to the view when you change the setting. Also, on page 91 there is a reference that indicates an All Photos view, and that isn't actually an option now either:

View your photos. Tap the thumbnail image, then swipe left or right to see the photos you’ve taken recently. Tap All Photos to see everything in the Photos app.

I'm going to see if adjusting the settings and then doing a restart does anything.

Gail, I don't know who you are or if you're speaking for Apple. I'm an iPhone app developer. Facebook will not be able to fix their app to access all the photos on the device because Apple does not provide an API to access the Collections or Years folders. Apps can only access regular albums. Until Apple fixes this, nobody, including Facebook, will be able to access all the photos on the device (don't you think Facebook would have fixed this in their app already if they could???).

I easily moved a picture from Collections to an album and uploaded it to FaceBook. Or, you can go to a photo in Collections and share it to FB.

And, no, this is a user-to-user technical support forum. Gail does not work for or speak for Apple. Apple's participation is minimal. There are some Customer Specialists who answer questions that have gone unanswered for more than a couple of days. They are clearly labeled as employees.

I think most of us really DO have a problem with the new IOS8. I lost a lot of photos (no, they are not in the collection album!) and some of the "advices" from users are really arrogant and not helpful.

I understand the functionality of the iphone quite well but after the upgrade to io8, I am limited in many ways by Apple.

- upload of older photos to FB, instagram not possible anymore (I do not want to create another album from collections, I simply want to upload the fotos as I did before)

- Many fotos are lost. Also a back-up did not help. Apple should have informed that the camera roll and photo stream will vanish and user should take extra care of their valuable fotos before the upload

- Having all deleted fotos in an additional folder where I have to delete them again.. doesn't make sense.

I addressed Apple directly. The user-to-user forum doesn't seem to be the right place to receive help.

It is nonetheless still possible. A number of people have been insisting it wasn't possible at all.

Although the Camera Roll and Photostream were removed, the photos were not. They can be found in Collections. And if you're not taking the trouble to back up your photos, they must not be very important to you. What if your device is lost of stolen?

It makes perfect sense to those of us who have been trying to help people who come to the forums begging to know where the trash or recycle bin is on their phone because they deleted something and, oh, like you, didn't back it up.

hmm.. oh.. my iphone showed: last backup, Wednesday 17th, September. However, I know that I took pictures in September and they where gone.

You're the perfect example of somebody who is of no help at all. You'd better tell how to send a picture from last year through WA without saving the picture first to a new album.. that would be helpful and not what you write. And also the way you write... implying that all of the people here looking for help are simply stupid.

OK, so the photos that you took in September that are no longer showing up anywhere - were they just in your Photo Stream or were they in both your Photo Stream and your Camera Roll?

Cheers,
