iOS 8 camera roll is missing!!!

For anyone interested, there is an app called MyRoll that you can get on the App Store, that gives you the Camera Roll style view for all your photos, a lot like what we are used to. You can do a lot with the app, but so far it doesn't look like there is a way to use MyRoll to upload from into social media. I assume that is because Facebook and other apps look to Photos for album/folder names to search in, and if a photo isn't specifically stored in a sub-folder (like Apple-created "Recently Added" or manually-created sub-folders), the photo can't be found. There are probably other apps that do similar things as MyRoll, and hopefully Apple will provide a fix to ios8 that gives us access to the root folder (Camera Roll) again, soon.

They were stored in the photo stream folder. As far as my knowledge goes, that's the folder from where the photos are sync to other apple devices.

Luckily I got them on my ipad, where everything went well after the ios8 upgrade. I am a bit afraid that they will vanish due to further sync with the iphone or whatever else could happen.

So how do I revert back to the older way of viewing my photos? I don't care where they were taken, I only want to see them in chronological order!

It is not just a matter of iCloud Drive. The entire structure has been modified, so even if you don't have iCloud Drive enabled, if you have Photo Stream enabled on iCloud, it will have all of the photos that are showing in the various Album and Shared views on iCloud.

If you don't use the Cloud at all. Photos will (more or less) act like it did with iOS 7.

And do NOT search that on the Internet, you'll only get confused. Keep iOS 8.

Made things convenient once I stopped freaking out and actually took a second to figure it out. Works fine.

I actually found a workaround - don't use "Photos". I now use "MyRoll". Works the way photos used to work. 😠

Now I just need to find a way to avoid iCloud in the future for document sharing. 😠

iCloud is under your complete control. For security reasons, many people are not allowed to use it. You can sync your iPhone with a USB cable and iTunes.

Good news people! Those of us who were unfortunate enough to download iOS 8.0.1 yesterday are reporting that Apple has restored the Camera Roll (except now it's called simply "Photos"). The Photos album contains all the photos on your device in chronological order just like the Camera Roll used to. I imagine Apple bowed to pressure from big guys like Facebook to bring it back, as well as complaints from people like us. Yea!

Just don't save your documents in iCloud, it is the way it always was, nothing to learn to avoid.

Hey, now you just try to sell it. I am taking 1000 pictures with my camera per 1 picture saved from an email. So we can all live with this showing as March 15th picture. Face it, it just scks.

I use my iphone at work for photos constantly. I need to go back and reference various settings on machines in the screenshots I have taken.

Before I could easily scroll to the series of photos I'd taken in camera roll. Now those photos are split up between various albums or "moments" that I did not create. Pretty arbitrary and frustrating. All for what, so someone in Cupertino can justify their job?

This is reminiscent of Apple's insistence that iTunes is usable without the Sidebar.

But at least that can be brought back in the settings.

Photostream is unchanged, it works as it did in IOS7, regardless of the iCloud Photo Library setting.
