Got the same thing here. 128Gb iPhone 6 on iOS 8.0.0, bought unlocked from Apple directly. Couple of days and it was fine, but today getting very hot. Not intolerable, but hotter than my 5S ever got, and generally was when I've picked it up to use it (so it feels like something that's running in the background), and cools back down after a few minutes of actively using it. Battery usage notes Safari as being the highest user of battery, which doesn't feel right - I'm pretty sure Safari isn't making it hot when the iPhone is locked. It's still munching through an iCloud restore as well (2 days in) which it notes as using 12%.

Battery lasted 6 h off the charger before it died. First two days it made it all through the day no problems (~18 h of light/moderate use and still at ~40%). :-(

Might try disabling everything background and see if that helps.

Guys!! I discovered the problem is in RAM ... Iphone 6 has 1Gb RAM. I found with a famous app (for the bactety charging) that when you start or use your iphone 6 you use the 75%-95% of RAM just turning it on!! I clean periodically RAM With that app and now it's ok!! Hope have been helpful!

But above all, hope apple will fix this abuse of RAM ...!

...and same issue here, iPhone 6, 4.7, unlocked bought from T-Mobile, runs hot, cools off, hot again, can't deduce the pattern. Battery life was 4 hours standy by and 3 1/2 use. I've never had this kind of experience with an iPhone from the very first one, including the iPhone 5 that I had prior to this that was running iOS 8. I'm stumped, at least for the time being, but thank everyone chiming in on this thread and hoping to find a solution.

I had the same problem from the get go (October 3rd), called Apple, got through all the hurdles (questions about settings, etc.) and got an appointment at the Genius Bar yesterday. They replaced my phone, but stated the reason for the issue being the restore from my Iphone 5s that I made from my Mac, and that I had to treat this new 6 as a "new phone". Sure enough, 24 hours later of use, and I am having excellent battery life and no heating issues (so far, anyway). So, my suggestion is to back up your stuff to your Mac or the Cloud, and reset the phone, wiping it clean. Then re-load your phone manually, instead of restoring. It is a time consuming pain in the neck, but it seems to have solved the problem. Hope this helps.

The only thing that bothers me is that since I got the new phone, I cant be sure it wasn't the hardware instead of ( or in addition to ) the restore issue. So, if anyone solves the problem without getting a new phone, I (and I presume others on this thread) would be interested in hearing about it.

I also have suffered, for many days, from the same over heating problem by the point the device constantly got very unconfortable to handle. I remember that I have restored my data from itunes and that I haven't treated this iphone6 as a "new phone". Maybe this was the culprit. But I managed to solve it by first switching off background update and then by hard reseting my phone.

Now it feels so cool that I can't believe I'm typing this message using the same hardware.

The best part is that I didn't need to reset the phone to factory form.

Hope this helps someone. Good luck to everyone.

I have the same problem here.

I'm a IT programmer (in the past) and also have more than 5 years experience in using IPhone. The thing is IPhone 6 make me really disappointed . It drain battery so fast and too hot. Just don't know why even I'm try:

- Set up as a new phone

- Upgrade to IOs 8.1

- Turn off auto brightness

- Turn off background update

- Turn off 3G, LTE and using 2G

- Turn off Sharing and Auto upload in Iclould, Itunes

....

I'm using this phone more than 2 days and really really disappointed. I don't know what I have to do now. If it still happen and Apple have no solution for it, maybe I will buy another IP5s for a better thing. Hic. Apple...

Hi.

I Have the same problem. My first iPhone 6 Plus got very hot just being in my pocket and the battery was just for 2+. I sent it back and got a new one. This one gets warm but not so much, but still the battery is just running. I noticed that if you charge it to 100 % it can stay at 100% a long time. Then when it gets to 99 % it starts to run down again.

Hi, does anyone noticed if the Home & Lock Screen is draining way too much charge? - mine is at almost 70%.

Please check your phones and let me know if you are observing the heat and the home screen issue.

I am so upset!

I have done everything I could: all kinds of restore, changing the setting... nothing seems to work!

My 5S a couple of weeks ago was having the same issue, but after 8.1.1 it went back to normal.

Your usage on Home and Lock Screen seems excessive. Over the last two weeks mine has averaged 9%. Instead of being upset about it. Take your phone to the Genius Bar at your Apple Store and let them evaluate it. If there's an issue, they'll replace it. Make sure you backup the phone before going in and make sure you make an appointment in advance.
