iOS 8 WiFi sync is broken

Your solution fixed this for me! Well, it has so far (1 hour) which is more progress than I've had for the last week or so!

Here's the only hope from Apple's list of bug fixes included in iOS 8.1:

Resolves issues with Wi-Fi performance that could occur when connected to some base stations

It'll take a few days to know if this does fix WiFi syncing, as restarting alone usually temporarily fixes WiFi syncing.

What is odd is all of my devices were impacted, so it seems something unique to my setup which is causing the bug to appear.

What kind of WiFi router are you using?

Mine's an AirPort Extreme, and I only have half a dozen devices on the LAN.

I use an Airport Extreme (current model).

Well 8.1 did not fix the problem. Have updated my iPad Air and iPhone 6 so far and my iPad Air has disconnected from iTunes already.

As soon as I loaded iOS 8.1 on my iPhone 6 and my wife's iPhone 5S, both immediately showed up in iTunes 12.0.1 on my Yosemite late 2013 iMac. I was able to successfully sync via WiFi with both. That has not happened since 8.0 and 8.0.2. It seems, for me at least, that the WiFi syncing issue has been resolved.

Question for the rest of you - are any of you running 802.11 AC besides AndrewC1970? My Actiontec router at home is running 802.11 N (although it is currently running G and N mixed mode). Are there any of you fine Apple users out there that are using the new AirPort Extreme or Time Capsule with 802.11 AC? I wonder how the new hardware/software is affecting you guys? Can you chose which wireless mode to run it in as a test?

Slightly different experience here.

I updated my iPhone 6, and it didn't immediately show up in iTunes, even though the update obviously required a restart. A little later, I restarted it again, as a test, and then it showed up as soon as it acquired the WiFi network.

I updated my iPad, and it immediately showed up in iTunes.

I've synced both by way of Wifi once.

But really, we all need to wait until a couple of days go by to see if this issue is fixed. Keep reporting back!

An IOS 8.1 just released and one detail applies to synching over WIFI. Could be a help to you guys??

Agreed! Let's not be too hasty. I was just so ecstatic to see both devices show up in iTunes (no restart needed, for my devices at least!) and to successfully sync via WiFi that I let my emotions get the better of me.

Keep us all updated on your particular experiences, please! We are cautiously optimistic.

After testing for two days and three different networks, I'm pleased to report that this solution fixed it for me. Interestingly, it reset my iPhone name, but I was able to change that back easily. The moment the phone restarted, iTunes could "see" it and sync with it. So to recap, try...

Settings - General - (bottom of the page) Reset - Reset Network Settings - Device Passcode - Reset Network Settings. After restart, select WiFi network and enter password.

I Installed 8.1 when connected to iTunes and then synced. I then disconnected my 5S and it remained in iTunes. I restarted iTunes and still there. Finally, put it to sleep and it remained after waking. I am still not fully convinced, but it is looking good. Next step will be Mini.

And moreover Lawrence Finch, Apple certainly didn't list WiFi syncing as something they broke in iOS 8 or 8.0.2.

No, because it was displayed on my screen when I updated, and I didn't think to take a screen shot.

Perhaps they didn't know it was broken when the release came out. Or do you think they should have listed it elsewhere? Where?
