I had the exact same problem. I tried everything and nothing worked. Until I tried this:

I connected my iPad Air to my Mac and launched iTunes. I went to the iPad tab in iTunes and checked the check-box "Manually manage Music and videos". After this it re-uploaded all my checked songs, each one, taking about an hour. But when it was done, they all were there. This solved the issue for me.

I had a similar sync issue with iOS 8.0 on my new iPhone 6 Plus 128. Three hours trying to add music and no go. Frustrated and tired, I slept on it and this morning I remembered that this seems a problem with every major iOS release and remembered what I was told to do then! So here's what I did and now everything is fine on all of my devices with regard to synching. Go to Setting-General-(bottom of the page) Reset-Reset Network Settings-Device Passcode-Reset Network Settings. Let the device do that and restart. Try again this should clear the problem. Up until this point the device and iTunes didn't even know each other from Adam. By this I mean that the amount of space available between device and iTunes and device itself was all messed up. Now everything is running smoothly. What does Network Settings have to do with anything, I have no clue just know it worked. Good luck. You'll have to retype your WiFi password after doing this.

I hate to be an idiot, but I'm gonna sound like one anyway. I tried following your advice. I went to Setting, General, Reset and Reset Network Settings. That's where I got lost. When you say "Device Passcode" do you mean the password that most people set to get into their devices? I don't have one. (I know, I know. Let's just bracket that conversation for now.) There's no "Device Passcode" that appears anywhere once I press "Reset Network Settings," so I'm guessing the one to use the device is the one you mean. Since I don't have one, I skipped that step, but did "Reset Network Settings" again, as your message suggested I do that twice. Still no joy -- so am I doing something wrong in applying the fix you described?

Thanks so much for the quick response! Thing is, I did reset that password .... several times, actually, after following some of the other recommendations (like forgetting the network and trying to reconnect, resetting the network connections, etc.). Apologies for not recognizing that's what you meant. I'm just baffled by why my devices (iPad Air and iPhone 5) automatically find the wireless network at my office, but can't find the one in my house. It was never a problem before I installed iOS8, and the fact that they can find the one at work suggests there's some kind of ... what? communication problem? between the devices and the home network. I've no idea how to fix it though, and I'm edging up on the limits of my competence. I've done all of the seemingly easy stuff (turn this off, turn this on, reboot the router, reboot the phone, try a hard reset, etc.), so I'm wondering if I'm stuck using LTE until Apple comes up with a fix. Not sure I can afford that with my data plan. 😟
