IIf I open a website the username and password don't autofill despite still saved
iPhone 5s, iOS 8
iOS 8 changed the way autofill works. Some sites will fill automatically. but others require that you tap in the text entry to bring up the keyboard. At the top of the keyboard there will be an option to fill the name and password. Tap on that. Then tap on Sign in or whatever button the site has for login.
Private Browsing was the answer for me. thanks.
TThis is a bug
in ios 7 if you had multiple accounts, you could type in first letter of username and it would show the full name
this has been disabled in iOS 8

ANd report this. More reports, more apple pays attention
After like 2 years of having this problem, I've finally discovered what was wrong... and it's something so simple, but obviously easy to overlook...
Settings App > General > Keyboard > [Turn on 'shortcuts]
Please respond to let us know if this has solved it for everyone? 🙂
Check to make sure Private Browser is off, Get help using iCloud Keychain resolved issue. If autofill is not populating or populating wrong information.
I was having the same issue and was totally frustrated. I tried everything to no avail. I eventually found that iPad was not on the same profile that my iPhone was using under contacts. Your "ME". Once I updated it all was well.
If the Autofill option doesn't appear above your keyboard, make sure you have "Shortcuts" enabled under Settings->General->Keyboards.
I Have the problem on both iPad and iPhone but some websites are working and if you try it manually the keyboard gives autofill and that works
SSame issue on iPhone 5 and iPad air. Settings are on.
however, on one of the website it wouldn't auto I hit log in anyway. (name/password boxes blank).
IPit errored. But when I clicked in the box it auto populated with correct info and I was able to sign in.
I think people are mixing things up here.
The real problem is when you enter a website and the username/password fields load empty, so you must hit a text box and then click "Autofill" on the keyboard.
iOS 7 used to load all websites already with username/password filled.
That bug added a few extra clicks that's so annoying! More annoying because iOS 7 worked fine!
Come on Apple, do something!
I have the same problem on the new ipad air 2, and yes, me too have check multiple times (days!) to confirm all the settings are corrected (private browsing off, keychain on, autofill on etc) and the only two password saved under Safari auto-fill is the apple id ones. I've just updated to iOS 8.0.3 with the hope that it will resolve but not.
I've installed chrome browser and seems like it too do not allow me to save password. I've also tried to install varies password management tool (passwordbox and 1password to be specific) and both cannot copy and paste password over. So, out of lack for using Safari o(oir Chrome in this matter) to browse password protected pages. My current workaround is to use loginbox which seems to be working fine within it's own browser.
I've been reading a lot of thread on this, and tried all possible option (except hard reset of the device as someone set resetting it also won't resolve the issue), so I am wondering if this is an iOS bug? or something else? Anyone has a sure fix that works for this issue?
This is the first time I have an "i" device, and this experience cause me to think twice before getting more "i" device as I never experience this type of troubleshooting effort with my other devices running Android.
in iOS 8, hit the two little blue boxes on the bottom tab right
at the bottom you will see private on left. highlight it then unhighlight it and hit done.
when you try to autofill now, the word autofill comes up above the keyboard. hit that and voila.
this is a big step backwards into geek land like so many new apple initiatives.
Apple has grown on the last few years by being really simple and easy.
they are now allowing the geeks to get the upper hand
watch what happens to their value if they don’t twig this.
I have the same problem on my iPad Air but my iPhone 5 works fine. Tried to restore but it didn't help any.
I am having the same issue, but nothing works to get autofill to function. Apple must have a simple answer for this, but I'm not finding it yet.
I have this problem for some websites. The username and password fields aren't automatically filled in upon loading the page like they used to be and it's really annoying. The issue is not about not being able to remember my login credentials but about having a one tap login that I have do every 5 hours on a certain page that just happens to have this issue, so I'm not considering invoking the keyboard and taping "AutoFill Password" as a proper solution (which is what I'm doing now). Facebook and Twitter logins however don't have this problem. It's pretty frustrating 😟.
These solutions only solve the problem for websites that do not "request the password not be saved".
In IOS7 there was a setting Settings -> Safari -> Passwords & Autofill -> Always Allow
This could set to On and user ids/passwords would also be saved for websites requesting that it not be saved. In essence allowing the user to decide what to save instead of the website. Personally that makes sense. I am perfectly able to decide for myself the risk/reward of storing this information.
Why did Apple remove this feature and does anyone know a work around?
Thanks
