Chris -- do you have any infor for the Dell printers? we have a Dell B1165nfw laser printer and are experiancing the same issues after iOS 8 upgrade.
No I do not. I'm just passing on what I have read from other posters. I can provide you with this troubleshooting/setup link for AirPrint, and you can see if it helps. http://www.apple.com/support/iphone/assistant/airprint/
Well, I fixed my issue. But really all I had to do was forget my network... and then I rebooted the phone. WHen I put it back on I reput my password for wifi... and now I see it. Strange. because the epson app worked as a fall safe. but it was annoying to use. lol So I suggest that.
My Dell B1163w also not working. Error message:
URF ERROR - URFPWG Decoding Fail
POSITION : 0x1d09 (7433)
SYSTEM : h6fw/xl-dec
LINE : 521
VERSION : SPL 5.58.01 06-27-2012
My Dell printer had the same error message with the exception of
Position : 0xdb3 (3597)
printer recognizes network --- network recognizes printer -- iphone5 and iPads recognizes printer and network --- every things seems to be working -- document shows preparing to print --- show document printing on iphone and iPad --- but nothing happens --- sometimes a URF ERROR report will print but that's about it .... Very frustrating --
i I also have a 5s which I did not update to 8.0 and it works perfect with the printer --- my fingers are crossed in hopes that the next update will be able to fix the airprint bug.
Mine is iPad 4 and iPhone 6. Both are on iOS 8.0.2 and both give out the same error message. Not sure if Dell or Apple will fix this.
Apple is stonewalling. Airprint is not working for Samsung printers, and perhaps others, wifi networks are not being recognized, and battery life on iPhone 6 is terrible. I hope they are working on fixes, but they will not admit there is a problem .
Maybe you have not read the entire thread. Epson is working on a fix, as well as Samsung. So that dispels part of your theory. I'm not saying that you are not having a problem, but it is not all devices.
This URF error seems to be happening to several different printer brands, not just Samsung, (mybrand that no longer can use Airprint), Samsung posted some kind of firmware update as of 10/10/14.The Samsung firmware process is truly beyond my ability, and also requires router administration (also beyond my ability), so I have no idea what that firmware was for). I always know I am not the only one whose abilities go just so far. I don't understand why the printer manufacturers just don't discuss this issue with Apple. Seems like the best and most universal answer would be another bug fix to Ios 8. My abilities do include updating iOS on my iPad and iPhone, just like Steve Jobs would have liked.
Issues with printer firmware have to be addressed with the printer manufacturer. AirPrint compatibility has to do with printers dealing with the firmware that Apple has on the phone. The list that Apple provides is based on manufactures saying their device is compatible with AirPrint. iOS updates can change features and require manufacturers to update their devices. That is what Samsung has done. If you have trouble installing their firmware, then you would need to discuss this with them.
As far as your statement that they discuss this with Apple. They receive the beta firmware before it is released so they can test their devices. If they do not update in time, then what happens is what you are seeing happen now, their printers don't work. This is not a bug in iOS, it has to do with the printers. My printer is working fine. If they make a change to the iOS to fix one printer, then others would not work. That is why it is up to the printer manufactures to work with the Apple software.
So, what kind of printer do you have (in case I am unable to figure out Samsung's firmware update process and Comcast's router administration, or wish tnot even to take a chance all that complexity)? I might rather just buy a currently compatible printer and lay low with future iOS updates. I really did buy this Samsung because it was on the list and that's how I have been printing. (I can always use my Windows laptop, though).
@Etomkins
I can't think of any reason why you'd need to mess with your router for a printer firmware update. Do you have a pointer to the new Samsung firmware instructions? Maybe we can help you with that.
I have an HP printer, C410 series all in one. Have you tried the link provided with Apple's troubleshooting for AirPrint? Includes doing a restart of your router, restarting the printer as well. However, as has been reported in this and other threads, Samsung have been experiencing issues and they were releasing an update. You say you saw that, then you need to get in touch with Samsung support for help in installing it.
Now that I look more closely at the firmware, it is not for iOS but for windows. http://www.samsung.com/us/support/owners/product/SL-M2825DW/XAA. I did download it to my windows laptop, but the next process requires using a Samsung sync activity which in turn requires you to sign on to your router and knowing your router password, etc. I got blocked at that point. And then of course, resetting all your devices. ay yi yi. So, hoping that Samsung will come through with firmware that doesn't require my familiarity and confidence with technical stuff that makes me nervous Or is beyond my ability, like something I can save to a usb stick And put in my printer directly. Or, alternatively, a generous Apple upgrade that does not have anything to with bugs but instead helps people like me who are firmware deficient and have a printer made by a manufacturer who can't quite keep up with Apple. Last, if all else fails, I would but a new printer that is truly compatible with iOS 8 (and cross my fingers Ios 9 and 10, etc.).
Chis, I have restarted router, printer, ipad,iPhone in mulitple ways and sequences. My iipad and iphone do recognize my printer, do "contact" and then "prepare". With the iphone 5 I get a printout with an error message; nothing is printed with the iPad air. So, Samsung it is (or new HP!).
