iPad 2, iOS 8
I experienced the same problem after updating to IOS 8 this morning on my iPad 2. I tried a hard reset (press and hold both buttons) and it resolved the problem. 3G restored. I hope the same may work for you and others who may experience this glitch.
I just spent several hours on the phone with both Verizon and Apple. They escalated me up the chain of support until a "senior" iPad specialist Apple decided to just replace my iPad with a new one.
Can't fix it, throw it away and get a new one. WOW!
Just wanted to go on record as having the same problem. I have tried all of the suggestions (thanks community) without having long term success as well. Meanwhile I'm paying for a data plan I cannot use! I am totally frustrated.
THAT'S Apple's solution? Replace the device!
I'm guessing it's going to be a busy week for them then!
Apple: Add my name to the list!
Same problem here in Italy: keyboard doesn't work properly anymore, 3G service disappears, only temporary solutions as hard reset or synchin. We're all paying a data plan without using it really.
Same problem here on my ipad 2 after installing IOS 8. Resetting the iPad helps only for a while. Removing the simcard also only helps for a while.
On top of that WiFi is very slow.
Also the apps on my iPad 2 seem to run much slower, even slower than under iOS 7.
Not happy at all!!😠
Having the same problem. Hard Rest ... temporary. Connect to computer ... temporary. Replace ... UMMM NO!
Speed of device has been rendered practically useless!
Hey Apple Support? How about a solution or an answer here!!!
Again, the same here (with iOS8, German Language Edition, an 64 GB iPad 2). 3G is available after a hard reset / reboot and gets lost again ("kein Netz" =no Signal) after some time.
So, it seems like a bug indeed. Has anyone filed a bug report with Apple already?

My iPhone 4s with iOS8 works fine so far...
Called Apple Support today and spoke to a manager Jose Luis Herren. We spoke at length about the problem and he is escalating this up to the engineers to try and get a fix on it. He doubts it will be soon but he stated everyone will be satisfied which is Apples Mantra. I told him I use my iPad2 as a telephone with Line2 and the ATT 3G and when I travel out of wifi have no phone. He knows this is very critical to most of us and understands the urgency. Now it is up to Apple to take care of this problem. I will keep the board updated. Keep calling Apple and expressing your dissatisfaction with ios8 and the loss of our 3G. He did state that that the new iPad generations HAVE no issues with cellular connections.
Same problem. Steve Jobs, please come back....
I have exactly the same problem - Apple you used to be the best, now I'm not so sure, please fix this.
Just got off the phone with Apple. Got bumped up to a senior advisor who agreed there is an issue and that Apple needs to fix Asap. Apple has no fix at the moment. I was told to expect a phone call tomorrow in regards to an update on this issue with IOS 8/ 3G/ IPad 2. All parties I spoke to we're professional and sympathetic but my IPad is still not fixed.
Strange one. I'm afflicted wit the same issue these past few days.
AFter seeingit mentioned somewhere, I disabled facetime's above lift to work over 3G. ThAt was this afternoon. Since then I've slept my iPad half a dozen times and my cell service hasn't disappeared.
CAnt say it's solved, but so far so good. I'll post back if it stops working.
I still have the problem and have tried all the solutions suggested - still loses the 3G. However, I have found that a simple swipe turn off and turn on gets the 3G working - inconvenient but better then having to connect to iTunes or do hard boot.
SSwitched off face time being able to use cellular service on iPhone for calls. No real difference
on another thread I saw Change from automatic cellular to choosing your provider
has worked for a few hours. A number of sleeps and wakes
got really sick of having to reboot every two or three hours.
disappointed that something so obvious and so consumer was not properly tested
in Australia on Telstra 3G
Same problem with ipad2 32GB 3G (T-mobile Slovakia). After ios8 update "No Service" few hours after restart.
Restart or reset solve this problem temporary. After few hours "No Service" again. Hope Apple will solve this problem soon.
