Me too, ChristopherShields. Exactly as you describe with Verizon.
So 8 hours later and my 32 GB iPad 2 is still working on Vodafone UK with the WiFi switched OFF...
Well iOS 8.0.1 is out so giving that a go...
same problem, I tried a hard reset and my ipad2 entered in recovery mode without any possibility of exit
itunes pretends to cancel all data to restore the device
I don't want to cancel all my notes, books, photos etc etc
Apple, I'm losing my trust in Tim Cook and guys ................ 😠
8.01 was there for download one minute and gone the next. This issue wasn't listed.
8.0.1 installed here on my iPad 2 so we'll see how it goes...
My iPad 2 has no ATT cellular service either. Wi-fi works. The hard reset worked once, but now the cellular is gone again and won't come back. Nice testing, Apple.
NNow 14 hours and many sleep wake cycles and still working
my solution posted back on page 3. In settings go to your provider and switch off automatic and manually choose your provider.
and keyboard is better, in fact everything is more responsive and working fine
this worked for me
(telstra 3g Australia)
Where in "Settings" do you find "Your Provider?"
It's in the top section of settings - called carrier here in the UK
You can also go to Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings. That solved my issue at least for now.
Apparently, 8.0.1 was breaking cellular connections for iPhone6.

Open "find my iphone" The 3G should reacquire.
it's a temporary fix but it saves the hard reboot, factory reset or unit replacement noted by others.
I'm trying the manual carrier select suggestion also.
iPad 2, Optus, Queensland, Australia.
Yeah.... Thanks gnacs.✅
Selecting 3G provider manual instead of automatic indeed seems to solve most problems: iPad 2 becomes a little faster and download speed in wifi gets back to normal (upload speed still slow for some reason).
So far have tried:
Restart - Temp fix
Hard reset - Temp fix
Switch off Bluetooth - no effect
Switch off Wi-Fi - no effect
Change provider from auto to explicit - no effect
Seems to me that 3G drops when you move in or out of Wi-Fi coverage. If you apply one of the 'fixes' mentioned above but don't then move in or out of your Wi-Fi coverage once or twice then I don't think you're really testing it.
