hi
tthat work around gave me nearly 36 hours of connection and it tested well with airplane mode on then off and wifi connection then not
eventually it it suddenly went no service again
so now I have switched off in provacy the cell search mentioned in a few others posts here
but it has only been ten hours so still good
now on 8.0.2.

Same problem with ipad2 64GB 3G!
Been on 8.0.2 since last night and so far 3G working. Over the last few days, I sync'd 3 different times to get 3G working and after the last time (late Wednesday) my 3G service had stayed connected (before I upgraded to 8.0.2). I went ahead and upgraded and as noted still working.
Well I'm now on 8.0.2 (having also upgraded to 8.0.1 after issues with 8.0.0), have a 32 GB iPad 2 on Vodafone in the UK...
So with settings back to normal, I.e. WiFi on, default privacy settings and auto carrier selection I still have the same issues after the upgrade on both 8.0.1 and 8.0.2... Trying the privacy setting this time...
My signal continues to drop I have also used Settings-Privacy-System Services- Cell Network, I toggle cell network off: the iPad searches and finds service, I use it until it drops then I go in and toggle the switch on: finds service, repeat..... at this time its the quickest work around I have found. I do not need to reset or reboot anything, very annoying- YES! I am expecting a call back from senior advisor this afternoon he is in contact with the engineering dept.
I'm not ready to call it fixed just yet, BUT, I'm on day 3 and my 3G has now stayed on with no drops.
None of the other methods like resetting network, privacy or the cell searching worked. But a full erase and restore did. If you try that make sure your backup is complete, I did have GREAT trouble with that.
I Am still having 3G connectivity issues after downloading and installing 8.0.2. I guess I am stuck with an iPad that is now operating only on wifi thanks to the latest software release. I am not a happy customer right now.
Installed ios8.0.2 update per senior advisor, one iPad 2 seems to hold a connection most of the time, the other iPad2 had lost 3g twice since updating at about 1pm. Both are connected currently....
fix I have been using to get connection back
Settings-Privacy-Location services-System Services-Cell Network Search, I toggle it off and if finds connection then when it loses connection again I go in and toggle it on. back and forth as needed. As far as I can tell the connection seems to maintain for a longer period of time than before but still is not working flawlessly as it should.
I've tryed every suggestion. Updated to iOs8.02 and still 3g is gone after 2-3 hours. I have to do a reset every few hours. A senior adviser said he didn't regocnize the poblem. Yeah right. Using Vodafone (Dutch).
APple fix this f****** problem!!!!!!
I thought 8.0.2 had fixed this issue for me but I was wrong. 3G still drops intermittently, just not as often.
8.0.2 definitely doesn't solve the issue, at least for me! It actually makes is worse in my case, because now the 3G speed (when 3G is working) has dropped to GPRS speed! It is increasingly annoying and frustrating.
Tried total reset and restore and still no change. I wish I had reverted back to 7.1.2 before Apple decided to stop signing it 2 days ago! Stupid me believing that Apple will fix the issue soon!
Will call Apple on Monday to replace my iPad 2 with one that is working. This is unacceptable by any standards (Microsoft's, Apple's or others')!!!
iPad2 16GB on Vodafone Romania
This is driving me nuts! I use my iPad for work on the road and so this is crippling me. I've tried a full reset and all the other suggested actions posted here. They all seem to works for few hours and then it's back to this problem again. Please apple, fix this bug. It's crazy!
I'm afraid it's a 3G problem.. they have to update the software
Turns out 8.02 only imoroved the situation. Didn't solve it though.
Ultmatley the only thing that correctEd the situation was to Make a full backup to my Mac, reset the iPad to factory and then restore from the backup.
I No longer lose 3G and the ipad runs more smoothly.
Ok...my Ipad is now with Apple and I rang up support to see what they'd be doing with it.
*Reset back to original settings and test
*If the fault is found, replace the chipset and antenna OR give up and send me another iPad 2 3G
*I then have another 90 days put on my warranty
I had a long chat with the guy, and the conclusions were as follows:
*We are in the minority!
*There's no talk of a software patch from Apple, as far as he was concerned. He said he had comparatively no traffic about this issue.
*He suggested it was a particular production run and/or hardware degrade vs software update issue
Its all a bit depressing. I can only express profound relief I was 7 days inside the end of my warrenty when this happened....
