My Ipad2 has been through all updates, factory restore, etc. 3g works sporadically. Last night I was unable to get it to find signal toggling the cell network search button, I had to turn it off and then on a process that doesn't seem to be as smooth as in the previous version. I have another call into the senior advisor I have been dealing with, although, the last time I talked to him he seemed to think everything was fixed, I told him we will see.
I do not have warranty but as far as I'm concerned the iPad was functioning properly until I updated to the new software and this software was compatible with this iPad. Apple will need to fix the iPad and restore to fully functioning or they will need to offer a solution in some other manner. I am getting very tired of the situation and will not update next time until I know the bugs are worked out. I am so disappointed that Apple has allowed this to happen I suspect the software was released before it had been fully tested and was ready for a release. Minor bugs in software while unacceptable seem to be the standard, this is not a minor bug this is affecting people and their livelyhoods.
It is definitely software related. I have 2 ipad2 purchased six months apart from different sources. Both worked fine until 7.1.2. Then the older one started to experience NO SIM and No Service problems. Starting with 8.0 and continuing into 8.0.2, the problem now happens on both ipads. The ipads are synced from 2 different iMacs. Clearly, the software coding has changed. It seems as though once the 3g signal is lost, the ipad does nothing to reacquire it unless you manually toggle any one of a number of software settings, and then it searches and reacquires the signal. The coding change is the problem, not random hardware failure or a single defective manufacturing run. Apple? What do you say?
SSo frustrating. Same issue and nothing so far has fixed it.....Apple!...get off your butts and get this fixed. You created the problem!
frustrating indeed.
although the update or 8.0.2 seems to help a little my iPad 2 is still unstable and slow. 3G still drops out occasionally, wifi still very slow most of the time when I have both wifi and 3G on.
some apps load and react very slowly.
what a mess!
It's been a long painful process I am hoping may finally be over. My husband brought his iPad into the store and they did a factory restore, started the iPad2 up as a new iPad. He was told not to use backup in iTunes. Like I said painful, means reloading all apps, passwords, etc. He said so far it seems to be working better, start up and shut down smooth process and 3G has not dropped, yet...
I am at home 100 miles from an apple store, I was on the phone again with a senior advisor, and ended up patched through to ATT where we have our 3g service. The ATT person said she had worked with a number of people who went through the same problem and reset some connections on her end then reset network connection in iPad2. I hung up with her and found that I could no longer connect wi-fi which up to this point hadn't been a problem, and why her changing 3g settings would mess up wi-fi, I have no idea. I tried several troubleshooting methods, put a call back into senior advisor, then decided to bite the bullet and do a factory restore and set up iPad2 as new. Painful! I must have minimum 15 hours in phone calls, reboot, reinstall, etc....I can't stand it! Ccurrently, I am in the process of restoring apps, passwords, etc. I did set up new iCloud on this iPad2 so we could take advantage of the Family Share feature of ios8 and still have separate devices for FaceTime, etc.
Senior advisor called back wi-fi was still not working, turns out I had to reboot router, although, other devices were working fine iPad2 wouldn't log on. After powering off and on the router wi-fi is working on iPad2, it seems more stable, and so far 3g has been good, so far... hoping this is over and I can get on with my life!
Well....Apple won't repair my ipad because the charger point is damaged! (it was working fine when I last used it)
Leaving that to one side, I asked about escalating the 3G issue, and she gave me a pathway. Basically I can call Apple Support with my old repair number and register a complaint, but like a good little customer, I'll update to 8.02 first, just to check (it wont work, of course) Then I'll do the complaint thing! I'll let everyone know what happens next...
D
Same issue. Apple please fix in new update
Both my ipad2 and my wife's ipad2 report "no service' since installing the new iOS. The only way to fix it is to reboot, which works temporarily. There does not seem to be a fix that actually works?
We have ATT as a service provider, ATT changed some network settings on their end and it seems to have fixed my iPad2. I haven't lost network connection in over 24 hours, yippee! After doing that I also did a factory restore but after doing the factory restore touch screen wasn't always responding and keyboard wouldn't go off the screen when I did not want to use it. I had to go into Settings-General-Reset-Rest All Settings this seems to have worked so far. The iPad is functioning almost like back in the days of iOS7.... 🙂 Good luck!
Been over a week and I have done everything possible, reading this forum, calling Apple and ATT and downloading 8.02.
The ATT 3G works sporadically in my house (I have wifi) but once I leave there is NO SERVICE. I am not sure there will ever be a fix for this but am hoping.
The iPad 2 is very slow now in every area. Getting photos up takes forever and most of the apps are just not working right. The ios8 takes up a lot of processing speed I guess and wasn't make for the iPad2. Wish Apple had forewarned us about the negatives of downloading ios8 onto an iPad2. It doesn't seem to affect the iPad 3, 4 or Air according to a tech I conversed with.
I hope there will be a resolution to this and I don't waste my prepaid ATT internet 3G access.
back to square 1, lost 3g twice yesterday, listening to podcast, podcast drops and only option is to start over I did this 3 times and gave up. Touch pad gets glitchy and locks up, hard reset fixes but I NEVER had any problems or complaints prior to this update. I have begged and pleaded with Apple to let me have ios7 back, plleeeaaasssseee!!!! nope, we broke your iPad2 and we don't intend to fix it. I worked with Windows XP until they quit supporting it, why? because it was the best they had. I slowly made the switch to Apple products because they were easy and always worked, I guess those days are gone. If I ever get this update working rest assured there are no more updates in my future. Yosemite, no flipping' way, my iMac works fine now why ruin a functioning computer?!
I started this post on Sept 19th, and still do not have a stable platform. I have tried everything suggested, except a factory restore, and none of the fixes have lasted. The easiest thing, just to maintain, is to sync (3G comes back up immediately on mine when I do this) but does not work when traveling of course. doing privacy settings works sometimes etc. Long story short, my IPad is now very slow, fragile, and getting close to being put on the shelf. I have been researching the Surface...
I just had a great idea! I have an iPad 1 that we seldom use. I love the maps on it because I use bus/train, I'm going to take sim card out of iPad2 and put in original iPad, no camera but that's the only reason we upgraded to iPad2. Atleast, I know it will maintain connection, talking about the windows XP got me thinking maybe I need to freeze time on Apple just like I did on windows........
Have you tried resetting icloud's password? I have read on multiple iOS8 related posts (iphone's mostly) about everything working fine after resetting the iCloud password. Try going to applied.apple.com and reset the password. Then enter the new password on every apple device, reboot the device.
I created a new iCloud account! so nope that didn't work either but thanks for suggestion
