iphone 6 camera not working

I just got the iphone 6 today and my camera's are not working. All I see is a black screen and I can not take a picture. Is anyone else having this issue? Does anyone know how to fix this problem?

I got the new iPhone 6 on 9/25. Discovered on 9/26 that the rear facing camera does not work (front facing does work). On 9/27, apple online support told me to do a factory reset. After that, I tested the camera and it worked great. Then, restored iPhone from backup. Camera does not work again. Online support told me to go to the Apple Store. I'm going on 9/30. Ugh. Total waste of my time!

Same issue here, i have a iPhone 6 Plus 128gb.

- camera worked fine for the first few days

- noticed the camera started getting glitchy when taking a slow mo video (freezing, lines down the screen, blurry) at the time i thought it was just because i was in low light.

- tried using the camera the next day, just got a black screen, Facetime camera works ok, opening another app that uses the camera (instagram) i get an error message 'error launching the camera, please try again)

- completed a restore in itunes, then setup as new iPhone. Symptoms all still the same.

- rang apple on saturday, they said they would get their engineering team to look at it and call me back

- no reply by sunday night, so i emailed back to the tech, he advised engineers were still looking at it.

- no updates by tuesday rang again, at first i was told that they would express me a new handset but would put a hold on my credit card the full cost of the phone, until i return the faulty unit ($1300), i was not happy with this as i had not even had the phone for a week. Was advised to call my local apple re-seller to see if they had stock for a replacement, they did not. This guy at least acknowledge it did sound like a hardware issue.

- Called back again, this tech advised that they needed to let the engineering team investigate first before they proceed, was told to go back to my original point of sale to see if they would do a early failure replacement (telstra have 0 stock according to my online ordering tool). Was then told that a replacement could take 3-4 weeks to arrive from apple.

- was told i would get a call back today with an update, its now 10:16, no callback.

So here i am, with a phone that doesn't work as designed, the most expensive model they have, less than a week old and its not working, i use the camera every day, not just for taking photos in my personal life, but i use it heavily for my job. The closest apple re-seller to me is 200km's away, the closest apple retail store is 1000km's away. I now have to either:

- wait for this magical engineer to find a solution and fix it via ESP

- send my phone back, and wait for 3-4 weeks for a replacement (hope that its camera isn't screwed also)

- take the $1300 hit on my credit card so i can still use my phone till a replacement arrives, still wait 3-4 weeks for it to arrive and hope its cameras isn't faulty also.

Very very frustrated, i was so keen for this new phone and because of the fault and my experience with apple support this is a giant let down.

SO my camera worked the first day I got my phone, then I did the 8.0.2 update and it stopped working. Black screen, couldn't flip to front camera (FaceTime did work). The camera DIDNT work in apps like Instagram or Snapchat.

I called customer service and they had me reset my settings (I didn't lose any information, pictures etc just had to set my ring tone, other tones, wifi networks, background and other preferences etc)

Go to settings -> general-> reset -> reset all settings. Then my phone shut down and rebooted and my camera was working (main camera and in all apps like Instagram and Snapchat)

Good luck! Hope this helped!

I am having the same problem with my iPhone 6 Plus 128gb phone. The camera and everything has been working great. Then, all of the sudden, the camera just came up black. I have rebooted the phone, powered down for 10min+ and then powered back on. I then restored my phone via iTunes (after I backed up of course) and then completed the restore.

I then restored the backup and brought the phone back up. Still the same black screen on the camera.

I then reset the content and all of the settings completely and this time I DID NOT restore from the backup. Still, the same problem. Nothing I am doing seems to be working. Looks like I'll be heading to the Apple Store tomorrow or contact Apple support. This is a real bummer. One of the main reasons I purchased the iPhone 6 Plus was because of it's camera. 😟

I had the problem, that the main camera worked well, but when switching to the front camera, the screen froze up and got blurry. Only killing the camera app helped to get the iPhone working again, but when restarting the app the same happens again. Later, I recognized that leaving the blurry screen for a while, suddenly the front camera was there, but when switching back to main camera, the picture was tinted dark purple and came back to normal after some seconds. I looks like a hardware problem for me until then, but the cure was in fact, what DCS Web suggested here:

By performing a sigle FaceTime video call with switching cams back and forth, also the original camera app seemed to be cured. Strange, but some kind of software bug for me, maybe a remainder form the iCloud backup restore?!

I have to correct what I said before: FaceTime doesn't seem to help either.

After more testing I found, that when the iPhone hasn't been used for a while and the temperature of the device is rather ambient, the front camera works perfect. After some heavier usage and heating up, suddenly it stops working, as described before. This must be a hardware issue and I will have the phone exchanged.

I got my new iPhone 6 on a Thursday, it worked fine with no problems for 5 days. I went to take a snapchat and only saw a black screen, switched the camera and it was still black. Restarted checked again everything was still just a black screen. I went in to Apple quickly after looking at this forum. If you are having this problem GO TO APPLE. They might try everything they can but it will most likely result in a new phone. So I repeat if you are having this problem GO IN TO APPLE.
