OK. this MAY be easily solved when you understand the "structure" of these forums

You can only post in a "leaf" or "child" forum (depending your preferred metaphor)

this illustrates how "iPhone" is a "limb" or "parent" and you cannot post in it - but can in the "sub-forums" that appear as links

iPhone >

Using iPhone

iPhone Hardware

iPhone in Business and Education

iPhone Accessories

At the end of the New Discussion posting process, you need to make a choice of where to put it

Look what happens when I "Test"

User uploaded file

THEN, look what happens when I type the word "iPhone" = ALL by ITSELF

User uploaded file

SOME forums are BOTH parent AND child - like "Using Apple Support Communities" or "Apple ID"

I just tried to post a question about the Spectre and Meltdown patch for High Sierra 10.13.2 under the High Sierra forum. When I tried to post the site brought up a post I made sometime last year that was totally irrelevant to the question I was asking. When I cancelled out and rephrased my question it took me back to that same post...repeatedly.

I still have my question but no way to ask it. This has happened before but usually I just give up and google my question.

Why did you even both... ****.

Oh wait, you were trying to be funny. Well done.

No, in fact, I wasn't. You said you weren't allowed to post any more. Obviously, that was an incorrect or incomplete statement. Now, you've posted twice. If you want help, you'll need to provide more complete information.

Writing an effective Apple Support Communities question

Hi. The problem you have is you aren't selecting a 'community.' At the bottom of the page, there should be a box that says this:User uploaded file

You have to click on the "Browse communities" button and select the community that best suits your topic. For example, if your topic were to be about "Apple music on a Mac," you would just type that into the search column, and click on the blue text that says 'Apple music on Mac" (see image).User uploaded file

If nothing shows up, try searching just 'apple music' or just 'Mac.'

After you click on the topic that best suits your topic, the popup window should close, and will by some text will replace it, that looks something like this:

User uploaded file

You can actually click on the part that says 'Apple music' to see other questions related to your topic. If you make a mistake, all you have to do is click 'change.'

If it still doesn't work, make sure you fill out the 'product' and operating system. User uploaded fileThe product is simply the device you are using (iMac, iPod, iPad, iRaq 😝), and the operating system is simply the version you are on. On a Mac, you can check it by clicking on the apple in the top left corner, holding down option, clicking system information, and reading the text there. For example, my Mac is in Version 10.11.6 User uploaded file

On an IPad\IPhone, go to Settings > General > About, and the version will be under 'version'. My version is a 10.01.User uploaded file

I hope these strategies work!

Left out a few important points.

Don't feel bad that you may be confused. It is way to complicated. It is how I start a discussion [ thread ].

Here is the easy way. Pick the discussion you want to post to from Turingtest2's list discussions. It needs to be a single topic list. That is you need to pick the list with a bunch of subtopics below it. In particular, a list like "Using iPhone" will work, but "iPhone" will not. .

User uploaded file

If you see multiple discussions on the web page, you have not gotten to an individual discussion. Go lower.

This brings you to a list like.

User uploaded file

Now, click on discussion. [ I know it's grey, but click anyway. ]

User uploaded file

You will now see your entry panel.

User uploaded file

You have a half an hour to complete your fist post. If you go over, please make a copy of your post and try again.

To make the post, scroll down and click on the Post button. [ Skip over all the blather between the end of the input box and the Post button. Click the Post button. ]

Don't feel alone. Apple hasn't made creating a discussion easy. No idea why they haven't fixed this problem.

Here is the easy way. Pick the discussion you want to post to from Turingtest2's list discussions. Turingtest2 has produced an excellent set of links for navigating Apple Support Communities [ASC]

Good luck & have fun.
