iPhone 6: Apparent backlight uniformity issue

My new Verizon iPhone 6 64GB exhibits a darker region on the top 1/8th of the display. It is most evident when displaying a white background. It is difficult to tell whether it's a chromaticity issue (AMLCD issue), a luminance uniformity problem (backlight), or something else all together.

Anyone else notice this effect on their new phone?

Hey Gam3r, That's not good either. If you are seeing this in the UK, then this a truly widespread problem. Don't get me wrong.... if I were buying a cheap generic flat panel edge lit LED screen from a big-box store, I'd expect some uniformity issues, but this is Apple, and over the last 4+ years, I've had nothing but perfect stuff pop right out of the box. This looks like a pretty bad QA/QC oversight. It really robs the joy out of saving up and buying this device. 😕

Something interesting I noticed... I have been pushing my phone and getting it hot in the past few hours by playing podcasts, display on, phone calls... The phone is warm everywhere Except the bottom left where I am noticing a warm dull tint... Maybe I'll hold a lighter up to the bad area and fix it! The "glue-needs-to-dry" unicorn?

Well they finally refused to exchange my phone again saying that it was "within spec" and that the colors were "bright and vibrant". I mainly made the appointment so I could show up early and check all the other phones in the store and at least voice my dissatisfaction one more time on record with my current device. Only one of the dozen or so devices I checked didn't seem to have any issues - all the others had noticeable shadowing on the edges somewhere. Also noticed that some where brighter than mine overall and some were less bright (all were turned up to 100) but this could be software as I saw another thread about a backlight dimming issue that seemed to turn down the brightness while still displaying it at 100. EIther way mine looks better than most with almost no shadow on the status bar and only a slight gradient to a warm shadow in the bottom left. I will update if it magically goes away but I think the only cure is going to be the iPhone 6s or 7 which I'm embarrassed to say I will probably purchase.

I am in the UK. Same issue. The status bar at the top is darker than the rest of the screen, especially the right side. It was very noticeable when I first turned the phone on. I find it less noticeable now. I am not sure if it is getting better or if I am just getting used to it. Anyway, replacement should be here tomorrow. I very much doubt it will be any better, but we'll see.

I had to go through 4 replacement retina macbook pros to find one with a good screen and that didn't make hissing noises.

I really do think Apple is struggling with production lately.

I too have this problem, but not to the extent as others that have posted here. You can see that the screen brightness is not uniform around the top of the screen. It is not very visible in this image, but it can be quite bothersome in landscape mode when reading white documents.

I won't even bother returning this one, as a new one might have bigger issues.

I have the same issue with my Iphone 6, a "shadowy" tinge across the status bar (where the battery icons, etc are) on the top display. Rotating the phone to landscape and back confirmed its that area which is of issue. Now, some other posts seem to suggest that this is a hardware problem but im not so sure (though I am no tech wizard). What I did notice is when I did a hard reset (the home button plus On/off switch combo) and when the phone arrived at the apple logo stage with the plain white background, somehow the shadowy dark tinge was not noticeable. If its a hardware issue then I assume the dark tinge would be there no matter what. Perhaps its a power/battery management issue (whether to do with IOS, that I do not know) but I did also notice that my old Iphone 4 with manual brightness set to mid was considerably brighter when compared to my iphone 6 with the same settings.

Anyway just my 2 cents.
