iPhone 6: Apparent backlight uniformity issue

My new Verizon iPhone 6 64GB exhibits a darker region on the top 1/8th of the display. It is most evident when displaying a white background. It is difficult to tell whether it's a chromaticity issue (AMLCD issue), a luminance uniformity problem (backlight), or something else all together.

Anyone else notice this effect on their new phone?

I have to correct you there . I think it has nothing to do with the colour because in my case all 3 iPhones I had replaced were space grey and had exact same problem. And guess what all of them have serial numbers starting with C3. my friend got his iPhone silver from Manchester and he does not have any issues and his phone serial number starts with F7. So good news is that there are good phones out there but very rare. I suspect like your saying it could definitely be factory production issue

Yep! That's it! Some of them has shadowy top left and right and some only top right.

i had 3 c38. Ally's same problems.

in my opinion there are two problems:

1 huge yellowish shadow at top or only top right

2 wavy small dark shadows at top most often in groups (live ie waves)

wwhere:

1st one is rather design related (not enough LEDs?)

2nd is rather production related (glue?)

I Am still in dilema whether to give another shot as I have returned my iphones, being in hope that maybe apple has changed something or maybe lcd fabrics are not in rush anymore.

I Am already on 5S but only because I already had one.

TO be honest, I think That Apple failed here. Not sure why.

with bigger screens and less space for backlight they should rather go to oled (which has no backlight at all).

But somehow they have decided to go to numbers instead of quality. To provide us with thiner phone still using lcd- sacryfing backlight uniforuniformity.

I Would not mind if iphone 6 would be half milimeter more thicker or £50 more expensive. half milimeter is not much for users but a lot more space from technology point of view. Just like £50 which is not really so much for users but it is really a lot from technology cost point of view.

so surprasingly they they have made a decision which was rather other brand specific- to go to numbers instead of quality.

I Don't think that half milimeter thicker phone will make Internet viewing less comfortable. But uniform backlight will definitely do as with iphone 6 I am simply disracted by by shadows thinking all the time that there is something on the screen that have to be cleaned.

SO I would say that iphone 6 is almost perfect phone.

Yes exactly like mine !!!

But less yellow tinted ! My first one was yellow tinted like yours but no shadow. I had to replace it because of the loose display on the left corner.

2nd also a loose display and now on my third the display ist white but I have the shadow on the top right which none of the phones before had !

Really annoying !! Many people life with it or even don't recognise i...I guess

Seems like a major issue #shadowgate ? :

Okay, I have an update. I called apple again. Took an hour on the phone. They transferred me from an indian, to an american, to an englishman, to an irishman and finally to a scotsman. Now that exercises your accent interpretation skills!

Anyway, they are sending out another replacement. They said, although I don't believe them, that this was very rare, and that I had just had very bad luck. I tried to get them to agree to check the screen on the new phone. They kind of avoided saying they would, but said they would put in the notes that I want a perfect screen. I don't know if this means that someone at the factory will be told to look at the screen or not.

I don't have high hopes. If this one too has a poor screen, at least I will know beyond a doubt that they are mainly all bad. If so, then Apple really should switch to AMOLED. I bet the samsung screens don't have these problems.
