iPhone 6: Apparent backlight uniformity issue

I'm experiencing the same problem with a white/silver 16GB iPhone 6. There is shadow that varies in width across the top edge. It's most prominent around the battery indicator, but it definitely stretches all the way across the top edge. I have two friends that both have iPhone 6's purchased in the last 2 weeks, and theirs do not exhibit this issue. Their phones show uniform lighting across the entire screens under both high and low brightness levels.

My serial number starts with C8K. Love the phone otherwise so this is very disappointing. I read books on the phone quite often, and this dark band is very noticeable under those circumstances.

WWhat country and what are your friends serial numbers?

PIcked up space grey today and surprisingly no issues with the display at all. i returned 2 gold and two silvers before which all had the dark border across the top of screen.

Serial number? I have a space gray, 128gb and I'm supposed to swap it for my 4th one tomorrow. These quality issues are quite upsetting. I'm extremely sensitive to color variations. And this screen is horrible.

MIne starts with C39N9. Im surprised that nobody has posted a youtube video of this issue. Bending issue went viral which is mega rare as compared to this screen issue. My problem is I have been using silver/gold iphones for the past few years and now it feels like im having to get used to the black front.

But...it's not limited to the silver / gold ones. I had the same problem with two Space Grey iPhone 6 64GB. The first one had a serial beginning with C39 ... it had a darker spot in the right upper corner near the battery percentage icon. I changed it and the new one has a serial beginning with C7. The issue is still there but it is only very very light. Again only near the battery icon. Besides the display of the first device was much more yellow over all but this was only visible when looking at both iphones lying next to each other.

The darker spot is most visible when looking at a white wallpaper for example. In normal use it hardly visible. Most people wouldn't see it, I guess.

I keep this iPhone now because I don't want to get a one which is even worse or has dead pixels or so on...

I got my second replacement today. The screen is cooler than the last two, but looks alright. The shadow at the top is much reduced but still there. It's so minor that I won't replace this unit. I wouldn't noticed it if it were not for my looking for it. So I can say after seeing three now that the these phones do have uniformity issues. Most likely the best you can do is a phone that's more uniform than average. My iPhone 4 on the other hand is perfectly uniform.

New serial begins C39. Original is C38.

I have this same issue. This is my 3rd replacement. All had the screen issue and others had some build issues. I spoke with the apple specialist assigned to my case today and he wants to wait about a week or week and a half before replacing it again. He is adamant that it is an adhesive curing issue. I am absolutely convinced this is a backlight issue as OP pointed out.

I know one thing for a fact. I went to two different carrier stores. Their white iphones all had this issue and the space gray ones did not. I explained what I saw to the apple specialist and he states that this is only noticeable on the white cased iphones because of how stark white the face is. I don't think this is the case. All the space gray phones I looked at have a very "blue" screen and not warm and yellow like my current 6.

In a week and half when this issue still exist -- I will be calling them back and asking for a space gray replacement. They also have no interest in this thread or photos for evidence of the issue.

Sorry to burst your bubble but all my phones were space gray and had the issue.

I don't think that black versus white face is a definitive factor between which device has this issue. What Im saying is that I am noticing it was a trend from all the display devices I have looked at versus white.

Im on my 4th Phone and all were spacegray, so dont believe in that

Dont believe that I had 6 replacements to date and amongst them 4 were space grey all had the same problem

Just got my 4th Space Gray 128gb. Serial DNP. Dark shadow in top right corner worse than any of my other devices, and the start of a bright spot on the display in the same corner. Verizon won't replace it again. So I'm stuck with this one unless I travel an hour to the apple store. *sigh* Plus they'll probably tell me its a "non problematic display" and only swap it once. So the new one will probably be worse again. I'm annoyed. I just wanna return it and give up.

I have amazing news for you all. Jailbreak for iOS8.1 is out!!. Install a tweak called "Colour Profiles" and change display colour temperature and gamma. And try to make it cooler i.e closer to 7000K and see if you can still notice that yellow spots.

Fingers crossed I will report back by testing with mine.
