Voice Memos Issues After IOS 8 Upgrade

I noticed that all of my voice memos are gone after my upgrade to iOS 8 (currently running 8.0.2). If I reboot my 5S and open the voice memo app, it looks like it's trying to load the memos (looks very glitchy), then they all just disappear. After a reboot, when the voice memos started to load, I clicked one. The memos stayed in the list instead of disappearing. However, dates and titles are incorrect AND they won't play. I just get the spinning gear. Lastly, the memo app will not record. If I click the record button, it saves an empty (1 sec) memo to the list. Hopefully, this is corrected by Apple very so soon.

I recently upgraded from a 5 to a 5S (and to iOS 8.0.2). I recorded a 2-hour meeting over the weekend--my first Voice Memo since the upgrades--and it will NOT sync to iTunes! I have tried everything I can think of. It (and all my previous memos) are still on the phone. And all of my memos from before the upgrades are in iTunes. But this latest Memo will. not. sync! And I can't e-mail it because of its size.

Ugh.

the only practical solution albeit a massive pain in the arse is to split files into 20 minute chunks and then email them to myself and stitch them back together in GarageBand to save as a complete file, takes a while but has been necessary on two occasions now! I really hope they fix this soon as its a function I use probably more than actually talking to people on my phone!

Here's how I got around it: I AirDropped it to my iPad and then, on the iPad, opened it in Evernote, creating a new note in my default notebook.

The Voice Memo app has an option to Send To Evernote built-in, but that wasn't working either.

Now I can sync my MacBook Pro to Evernote and download it that way.

I was having a similar problem. Files would disappear, would not record. The voodoo that seems to have worked for me - I recorded a test audio in the messages app, successfully. After that, my saved files reappeared, minus titles but playable, and the memos app records now and seems perfectly normal.

If you can't sync or mail voice memo to your computer, you can try the any third-party cloud app to do the transfer or share on your iPhone, like dropbox. And there are several desktop tools, like TunesGo for Mac to copy voice memos from iPhone to Mac.

iOS 8 deleting voice memos after upgrade as described by other identical to my experience, did seem to try to load memos only to crash the app as memos clicked on. Stupid...

I have this exact same problem, the majority of my memos don't even appear, but the app crashes after about 45 seconds.

Now, My memos were very important that I get them from my phone, so the solution to getting the physical files is getting a third party manager, I used iFunBox and then go into the phone's file system to retrieve the files, which are not named correctly, but instead a string of numbers.

I don't know of a solution for the in-app problem, but if you really need your files, you can get them back.

Had the same problem. Using iOS 8.0.2 on an iPhone 6. Problem seems to be solved for me after the following: I kept opening the app and the memos would struggle to load and then the app would crash (as others have described). I would reopen it and nothing would be there, not even the glitchy attempt at opening. After closing the app and rebooting the phone, I opened the app and this time, I started tapping on various voice memos as the glitchy loading occurred and before it crashed. I probably tapped on 3-5 of them as the list was populating. When it finished loading this time, they were all there and stayed there and the app didn't close or crash. Since then, the app seems stable. All my memos are there and I'm able to record new ones. I was extremely frustrated like all of you, so I hope this helps someone. Good luck!

Same thing is happening to me, all my voice memos recorded before upgrading to 8.0.2 have disappeared. iPhone 5. It really bugs me that they are so careless sometimes with the upgrades, this should not happen.

First: Maybe Apple should just call a spade a spade and rename "Voice Memos" as "Songwriters' Memos." Seems like we're the only ones using it.

Back to the issue at hand: Same here. However, it seems MOST of the memos are still in my iTunes "Voice Memos" playlist. Don't see how I can get them back onto my iPhone, but at least they are there.

Problem with disappearing recordings isn't limited to voice memos! I downloaded (didn't even install) ios 8 to my iphone 5s and my reliable iRecorder Pro app vanished along with hundreds of recordings, including my mother's funeral. Spent hours on the phone with Apple tech and they are baffled. The app doesn't even show up in my purchases as if it had never existed. I even tried restoring the recordings (which were all backed up on icloud) using An iPad still running ios 7, but ios 8 on the phone made all of the recordings totally inaccessible. The Apple tech person tried to blame the app developer for not upgrading the app, but icloud back ups should not disappear when the ios version changes! I'm so devastated. Anyone else have that experience with irecorder pro ( a really good app) and find a solution? Would so appreciate. Thanks :-(

Thanks andyman1984! I found my missing voice memos on my hard drive as well. They were under the Music/iTunes/Voice Memo folder. Not sure why they're no longer on my iPhone or showing up in iTunes, but as long as I have them, I'm happy. Phew! Losing my song ideas would certainly be a tragedy.

iPhone 4s, iOS 8.1

None of my voice memos are missing from my iphone 5 however they will not sync into my itunes on my macbook pro any more and I need to transfer them into my computer to move them to pro tools and start working on my song ideas, are you kidding me apple !!!
