Voice Memos Issues After IOS 8 Upgrade

Not just songwriters using this - I really need voice notes for my work with animals - average 1.5 hour sessions where their selections & responses (herbal self-medication) need to be noted - if I use pen & paper / phone notes, I'm looking at my hands, not the animals, and so could miss important observations.

After last software upgrade, my notes are displaying - but in alpha-order, rather than chronological. That means that 2 weeks worth of notes at a rescue centre with loads of different animals - that I am trying to transcribe NOW - are now mixed in hundreds of other notes made over the last 2 years. Unbelievably irritating - needle and haystack spring to mind.

As another poster simply observed - programmers should just be more careful with software upgrades. This shouldn't be happening.

Yes I agree, very frustrating. I record audio for video with the app and use the audio files in my video editing after bringing the audio into itunes.
I ended up having to buy a 30 dollar app to download all the voice notes. I am very happy with the app because it works great but it's sad that I had to dish out another 30 for it. Apple, what is going on?

I just discovered I was having the same problem. With my iPhone 6 connected to my Mac via USB cable and iTunes running, I unchecked the "Include Voice Memos" box (under Songs), clicked Apply, and then check it again and clicked Apply. The voice memos is syncing now. Good luck!

I'm pretty sure I tried that about 10 thousand times and didn't work. But this whole thread was before the recent software update to 8.1.1. Maybe something changed. I will be giving that a try again today and post my outcome.

EVery time I update my iPhone is scrambles my voice memos. I search the web looking for answers and there is none and Apple seems mystified everytime. I use iExplorer now and extract my voice memos before I update. Sure enough this time iOS 8 scrambled them again. By scramble I mean delete or rename or re-date. I don't think voice memos are a high priority for Apple

I've solved the issue with iFunBox for Mac, that is free. It's not an authorized Apple app (in Yosemite, you have to CTRL-open); therefore, it managed to solve the issue they haven't minded to care for so far.

Thank, that worked for me except I opened it in Dropbox.

Try this way to retrieve deleted voice memos on iPhone:

• Connect iPhone to PC.
• Open iTunes if it does not open automatically.
• Locate your iPhone in the iTunes "Devices" list.
• Right-click on the iPhone and select "Restore from Back Up." ITunes restores your phone from the back up.
• Click the "Eject" button next to your iPhone in the "Devices" list.
• Unplug your iPhone.
• Open the Voice Memos app on your iPhone.
• Click the "List" button to the right of the sound meter to open your saved voice memos.

Exact same issue. Won't play back. All titles are gone. I had hundreds of memos, most recording song ideas. Retagging took so much time. Now that I'm done, the phone won't show and doesn't recognize any of my tagging updates and doesn't seem to sync my changes - has them all listed as title 12/2/14 so even the chronological dates would help but that is gone. I can deal with a lot of glitches but this thing just sets me back in unrecoverable ways. Something almost as bad and equally troubling is that when I record voice memos, they get saved a "Music" - not "Voice Memo". When I play my Music on iTunes, the voice memos play. This requires extra work to get them out of there so for now, I tagged them as "iTunes U" since I don't use that.

I just got off the phone with Applecare and they solved my problem.

All my voice memos has disappeared except for 3 recently recorded memos.

The solution:

Boot iTunes

Plug your phone into your computer

In iTunes, click on your device in the top left corner

Click on Summary in the column on the left side (it will probably already be showing)

Click on Music (below Summary)

In the top section, click on Include Voice Memos

Hit Apply in the bottom right corner

The phone will then sync.

Once it is done, check your phone and all your voice memos should be there.

Hope it works for some of you too.

Glad that worked for you. I had already done that. I still have the problem.

One thing I neglected to mention.

In my case, when looking at iTunes, there were no voice memos in my iPhone file. However, when I looked down below my playlists, there was a file also called Voice Memos which contained all of my voice memos.

So, in my case, they were there, just in a different place. I guess in the software upgrade the code did not correctly check to see that I wanted them on my phone and rechecking the box fixed the problem.
