iOS 8 Exchange Email no longer Pushes

Ever since I upgraded to iOS 8 on my iPhone 5 my exchange email has gone silent. I no longer get emails pushed to my phone (whether on WiFi or LTE). Instead, I have to open up the Mail application and it will then update with new emails.

I have reset the phone and checked the settings. Nothing is different, but exchange emails do not push to my iPhone 5 any longer using iOS 8.

Is there a fix for this, or will this require a new release?

Same problem here. 5S running iOS 8 that has had two separate Exchange accounts pushing flawlessly on iOS 7 since the get-go.

This morning: no mail. No errors. (Incidentally where would those errors appear? Are there any logs to look at?)

Have tried removing and re-adding the account - a pain thanks to two-step auth - but to no avail.

Incidentally I have also noticed that, since iOS 8, if you read an email away from your phone it remains identified as unread in the Notification centre. This is further unwanted behaviour since iOS 7.

EDIT: If you too have this issue it'd help us all if you clicked the "I have this problem too" link beneath the OP.

After reading here and remembering issues reported with past Exchange accounts, I wonder if this has something to do with the version of Exchange server being used and/or something to do with Active Sync. A change in iOS8 might have broken the ability to access something with Active Sync or the Exchange Server. I am using an iPhone 5S with iOS8 and my Exchange mail from work is working just fine. So I guess I'm just trying to see the differences to narrow down what the issue might be.

I have the same problem. iphone 5 emails were working fine yesterday and earlier this morning. I tried to send an email mid morning and it just sits there saying sending mail and email messages have not updated since then and yes I've received emails. I did not make any changes other than updating to iOS 8. I did get a message that my icloud account could not be verified and it prompted me for the password. I put it in and it tells me that the password is incorrect. Well it's not, it's the same password I had to use to login here to post my issue.

I can't do a reset because my phone is suffering from the sleep/wake button issue which Apple refuses to fix (it's not one of the phones that "they" have identified as having the issue). Well, it does.

Any thoughts on the email issue that don't include needing to use the sleep/wake button?

Thanks,

I too have had the experience of no push. I have done all resets imaginable, some work for a few minutes but then crash out. It has been very frustrating as I use my phone for work. I tested with IT and it was not a network issue. I tried on the LTE and Wi-FI and disabling each.

The only solution was for me to downgrade back to IOS 7.1.2. This solved the problem right away. The only problem was that I did not have a recent backup to restore to so I did loose a few texts and potential contacts. But at least I can receive my email. Hopefully they will have a fix in the very near future and I can restore from a recent backup. Not sure how long Apple will be signing signatures for the old version.

Incidentally I have noticed I've not had any notification of iMessages either. Like mail they appear only when I go specifically looking for them in their respective app. I've also found a few articles such as the following today:

Receiving push notifications on iOS 8

"After upgrading to iOS 8, some users might encounter issues with receiving push notifications on their device for all of their apps..."

It seems that this could be a widespread problem. Suddenly my phone is a whole lot less useful than it once was 😠

This seems to be isolated to that particular app. And as I said earlier, I'm not experiencing any issues with my Exchange account and Push notifications. You mention iMessages too, and I am fine with that. As I stated earlier, I'm wondering what the commonality is here, besides iOS8. Why are some people experiencing issues and others are not. The first thing I would think of for troubleshooting is to try and find that commonality. What version of Exchange are people using? Again if you search the forum, you will find earlier issues with the update to iOS7 where users found a disconnect, and that had to do with the version of Exchange server being used. If some of you could share that, it might help. Hopefully you are providing feedback to Apple HERE, to let them know of the issue, but also try and provide more details to make it easier for them to troubleshoot.

I have the same problem with my iphone 5. I upgraded to ios 8 and my work email account which is Exchange account does not get push email. It does not even fetch email which was in the inbox for over 2 hours. Fetch duration is set to 15 minutes. I tried deleting my account and recreated it but it did not help. Push email is very important to me and it too bad that I have to open email app every few minutes to check emails.

I have fixed my exchange push problem. I can't tell you why it worked, only that it did. I had the issue on all IOS devices we have. Desktop mail clients were not affected.

I went to the control panel of the mail server and changed passwords for all users. I then deleted the exchange accounts on each device and did a hard reset. I'm not completely sure that was necessary, but I did it anyway. I then created the accounts again using the new passwords. All of them worked perfectly the first time.

Also, the Automatic Reply is no longer on the accounts. We don't use that function, but it showed up on each account before I deleted them anyway. It showed Loading as it's status. Now, it isn't even there.

Rackspace hosts my mail. I emailed the support people to tell them what I did and they reported back that this is fixing the problem for their users. They also reported that the problem seems to affect a small number of users. I don't know if this will work on all exchange servers. I hope it does.
