Car Bluetooth Connectivity Issue with iPhone 6

Just got the iPhone 6 on Friday -- very exciting! But I can't get the phone to connect to my Mini Countryman's bluetooth. The phone will detect the car's bluetooth signal, and says it's connected, but calls aren't audible via the car stereo system, but rather the phone itself. And if I don't turn the bluetooth off, my car thinks I'm on a call and the radio won't work.

It's frustrating because this feature use to work with my 5s. A friend of mine is having the same issue in his car. And I've seen others complain about this -- seems like an Apple issue. Not sure though.

The same thing happened to me on my 2012 Subaru Outback. I'm not sure this will help you since you have a 2011, but I'm posting this just in case.

I paired the audio on my car with my iPhone 6. However, when I turned the car off and back on again, the iPhone would not pair automatically. I had to manually connect the iPhone with the car. Turns out there are two separate bluetooth pairings on my car: one for phone which allows up to 5 devices and one for audio which allows only one device. So I did the second bluetooth pairing for the phone (had already done the audio), and that fixed it. YMMV

1. I did the 8.0.1 thing yesterday and then spent an hour restoring the iPhone 6. Oh well, Microsoft scrooched Win 7 several times with their faulty monthly critical updates that they have had to fix.

2. I can pair my iPhone 6 with my 2013 Subaru Outback and Legacy with the Type-A radio, no problem. Only problem is when you turn off the ignition or start the car (which kills the power to all non-essential things), or go away from the car and then start it up the Bluetooth is gone and you have to go into Settings and reconnect it.

3. I didn't have this problem with a Droid Razr M until I upgraded it to Android KitKat 4.4.2. Then I could no longer pair it to either car.

4. My neighbor has a 2013 Outback with the Type-B radio and a Cadillac SRX. They have an iPhone 4 and 4S with iOS 7. They don't have to re-pair their systems each time.

5. An Apple "Genius" said you have to re-pair it each time, that is the way it is supposed to work.

Maybe if I read the Subaru manual I would have saved myself grief. I was pairing an Audio device not a phone! The Type-A system can have up to 5 phones but only one Audio device. Always read the R.T.F.I, dummy!

You lose the connection if you turn off the Bluetooth on the phone. But as long as they have been paired they reconnect. If you turn off Bluetooth on the phone you have to go into Settings, Bluetooth, and tap the radio's name but not re-pair them.

Adding my 2 cents to this stream. My 2011 Ford Explorer, on which I used the Sync system with my old iPhone 5 without troubles, now giving me similar trouble to others in this thread since I got the IPhone 6 last week.

Bluetooth does pair. Audio (music) over car speakers works as its should. I am able to use voice commands to dial over car speakers using Bluetooth, but after one ring the car audio cuts out (disconnects the call from bluetooth, though the phone remains paired to the car), iPhone stays on the call but bluetooth audio over car's sound system does not work. I tried all manner of resets, deleted paring then repairing (repair the pairing?), still no fix. I am hoping this is the subject of a quick software fix from Cupertino as I use hands free audio quite a bit during my ~hour commute each day.

I have the exact same issue on my 2014 explorer, I called apple and they swore that its the vehicles software and until Ford puts out an update were screwed, Thanks! I ran into several other people, different manufacturers and models and ALL are experiencing the same thing. Stop BS everyone and fix the issue. This is a major bug that needs attention NOW!

I confirm. I relied heavily on car connectivity using Bluetooth with my iPhone 5, 5S, and the 5S on iOS 8 also had no problem. This is an issue with the iPhone 6 and 6+ hardware. I have a 6 and my wife has a 6+ and both will manually pair just fine, but will not connect automatically after pairing (which I had relied upon as normal), and usually will not manually connect after the car has been power cycled. Even if manual connection WERE reliable, as you very inconveniently need to dig through the menus to manually connect, that would be unsatisfactory. I just applied iOS update 8.0.2 and tested to confirm the behavior has not been resolved.

I applied 8.02 to my 5S and still have the same issue. I can initiate a call with Siri, see that it briefly starts to dial and then disconnects. If Siri brings up a number and I manually toggle the number to dial, same result.

If I look up the number in Contacts and/or manually dial it the call goes through just fine. I can also still receive calls in hands free mode.

My conclusion based on what I've read here and on the developer's forums is that this problem seems to be a Siri related issue since it is affecting so many makes and models of cars, and does not seem to be tied to any specific model of iPhone.

I initially had problem but followed recommendation on here to reset all settings and network settings. I did reset all settings but not network. I had removed phone from auto blue tooth and phone bluetooth; then reapaired all is working correctly For the last three days with ios8 and 8.0.2. I do not use SIRI in car so can't determine if that would cause a problem as others here have experienced. Hope this helps. Also was able to pair and use with my Jabra bluetooth.

2007 Lexus RX350 - I have similar issue as everyone else. iPhone 6 connects to car phone via Bluetooth just fine. When trying to make a call via car phone, it says connecting (as if the phone is already in use). Also cannot access the car phone's control/home screen. Incoming calls will ring on the car speaker, but cannot be answered via car phone (phone conversation has to be via iPhone only). Car phone used to work fine with iPhone 5 and 5S. Apple need to make this a top priority to fix this problem.
