usb connectivity in car not working after ios 8 update

Hi,

I can no longer access music on my iPhone 5 via the USB connectivity in my 2014 Chrysler 300 since I updated to ios 8. Before the update this feature was operating without any issues.

Is this happening to anyone else? If so is Apple aware of this issue?

I am having the same issue in my 2014 VW Jetta. I cannot connect my Iphone 5 via USB port after I upgraded to IOS 8. It worked perfectly before. Now, It will not open any of my music or podcast with the radio controls, unless I do it directly on the phone. Resetting the phone did not work either. Any news on what Apple is doing to fix this?

I don't believe there has been any word from Apple as yet. I have been following this closely and have found some solutions to try. keep in mind, this works for some vehicles and not for others. I know people where one of these has worked for Volvo, Volkswagen, Lexus and Chrysler. I'd recommend trying each one of these:

Option 1 - Reset all settings (this will not delete data)

Option 2-

  • Delete the phone from your car directory
  • Find your car in the Bluetooth menu and tap the information icon and select 'forget this device'
  • Reset Network Settings on your phone
  • Do a hard reset of your phone (hold home and power until apple icon appears)
  • Add a new device in your car, wait until it prompts for you to make your device discoverable
  • Finally, open the Bluetooth menu in your phone, wait for prompts

Option 3- Sign out of iCloud and reset network connections from General>Reset. Pair the device and then sign back into iCloud.

Option 4 -

  • Delete the device from your car.
  • Using iTunes, rename your phone
  • Soft reset your phone
  • Try pairing with the car again

Hope this helps.

I've tried Option 1, 2 and 4. They all work but then the phone goes back its usual self after I turn the car off. I'm convinced this is an iOS8 issues. This is the only phone that experiences that. My Blackberry works fine in the car. Apple can't be slower and releasing an update for this especially with the Christmas period approaching ...

I have a 2012 Chrysler 300 Limited. After updating my iPhone 5s to ios 8.0.2, the uconnect (version 8.4N/RB5) won't load my playlists when plugged directly into the USB. I keep getting a message "Browse media is being built, etc, etc" (See pic below). . I had my iphone plugged into the USB for over 90 minutes and I still received the same message when I hit the browse Button. I can play individual songs that are listed in alphabetical order, but my playlists are not being built

I only have around 1000 songs on my iPhone. And prior to updating the OS it only about 10 to 15 minutes to load the playlists. Any thoughts?

Hi,

Same here with Opel Insignia after update to IOS 8.0.2 on Iphone 5.

Before the update, all car controls worked fine with the iphone 5 connected to the car with original apple usb to lightning cable.

After the update connection to the iphone is working and it is charging, but it doesn't start playing my music until I select play on the Iphone.

I can also no longer go to the next or previous song in the playlist by using the car controls.

If I select one of my other playlists, it loads the first song but it remains pauzed again until I select play on my Iphone5 !

Unplugging and replugging the cable doesn't change anything.

I hope that this all gets solved soon...

Here is a work-around I found that worked for some people with Dodge, Ram, and Chrysler Uconnect systems:

Step 1. On the iphone, turn off iCloud, Wifi, and Bluetooth

Step 2. Start the vehicle and turn off the radio.

Step 3. Delete any existing iphones from the bluetooth settings on uconnect

Step 4. Plug iphone into the USB and allow the uconnect to recognize the iphone and load the playlists, albums, artists, etc

Step 5. Turn on bluetooth and then try pairing your iphone via bluetooth again

As long as we are gathering a list of vehicles with this issue, either intentionally or not, I have a 2010 Nissan Altima with the usb hookup. It works fine with my ipod nano, and it worked with my 4s, as well as my husband's 5. I have the 6, and it no longer lets me control it from the dash. I have to do everything from the phone, and cannot even use my steering wheel controls, except for the phone function that works via bluetooth. I called Nissan and their idea of a diagnostics test is to hook up a bunch of different phones to it to see if they work. Nissan does not upgrade the firmware of their vehicles, I asked. This is a safety hazard, because now you have to look away from the road to do anything with the phone now.

Mate, do you have to do this every time you get into the car? That's a good 5 minute pre-start job. Alas, it's a workaround. I've tried some work arounds but it still plays up when I turn the car off and on again. also, I use an iPod for music and an iPhone for bluetooth, so music is OK (iPod 3rd generation which can't update to iOS8). It's the bluetooth that's driving me crazy!

Just want to add mine to the list...2012 Honda Civic with a IPhone 4s. No bluetooth, just connecting with the USB cable. Had absolutely no problems before, since upgrading to Ios8.0.2, it no longer plays when I plug in my phone and I have to control it on the phone itself, quite dangerous while driving. Even when I start playing it won't skip to the next track using the controls in the steering wheel. Have already complained to Apple support. Will probably give it 'til the end of the month and if no solution...on to the Galaxy or Nexus 6. It's a shame because I really liked the Iphone until now. This does not leave me in a favorable view of Apple or its products and I will probably not purchase any from this point on.
