usb connectivity in car not working after ios 8 update

Hi,

I can no longer access music on my iPhone 5 via the USB connectivity in my 2014 Chrysler 300 since I updated to ios 8. Before the update this feature was operating without any issues.

Is this happening to anyone else? If so is Apple aware of this issue?

Unfortunately, my engineer seems to have dropped off the planet. Got in touch with another analyst today who seems convinced it is the manufacturer's problem, but is opening another support case with the engineers at Apple. Supposed to hear back within 5-7 business days, but I was told that same thing back in early November too.

Hoping this at least sparks some interest for them to fix.

Still not working in my Charger or Terrain on 8.1.2

i just bought a brand new 2014 Chevy Cruze back in November and I too am experiencing this problem with all of my apple devices that have current software. I've already taken my car to the dealership and they're telling me that it's a device issue. Now that I've stumbled upon this thread, I'm thinking they're right. Apple needs to fix this because this is unacceptable.

I've had the same issue since upgrading to iOS 8. Figured it would be fixed in each subsequent update but nope so today I've tried suggestions on this thread to get it working. I decided to try reset all settings. Well that's been a big failure. Phone is sitting with "apple logo" and has been for the past 30 minutes. I've connected it to my computer to see what is happening on iTunes with it and iTunes can't even see it! Really hope Apple come up with a solution to this problem soon. May have to call tech support anyhow to get my phone working and out of "apple logo" mode 😟

I own a Honda Civic LX 2012; started having the same issue, the selection controls in the car wouldn't control my IPhone 4s tunes. It wasn't

the car, or usb cable, but the apple upgrade that caused it. The solution: the hard reset (hold home button and power buttons down until the apple

logo appears). I then plugged the phone back into the car and I'm back in control! It's too awkward and dangerous to have to control your tunes from the phone while driving. My thanks to mellishine for sharing.

Today I had the issue of my iPhone 5s not being able to connect and play music in my 2011 Sentra, nor would it connect via bluetooth. I do have iOS 8.1.2. After reading several forums and posts, I did not want to reset my phone so I opted to simply plug it into my car with the USB cord. After I got the messages of a "compatibility issue" or "this device is not compatible", I simply turned the phone off then on again.

Happy to say everything works just fine. If I once again start to have this issue I will update my post.

European 2011 Nissan Qashqai my wife has a Nissan Note both our 4S phones are not working as they should with the Nissan connect system via USB.

There have been no issues with the phone or bluetooth but the phone tries to connect several times to the system via USB then after a while I get Communication error on the car screen and on the phone this iphone is not supported by your USB device.

However that's not the whole story.

For my wife her phone does not connect at all since the update but I have been luckier.

I have four situations

Either

A) it just doesn't connect and gives a message

B) it tried infinitely to connect during my whole journey

C) it works as it should for the whole journey

D) it works for 5-10 mins the decides there's a problem.

I have the App "downcast" for podcasts.

The apple podcast app gave my phone huge problems I wouldn't be at all surprised if it's the podcast app that is causing this problem. (check out the forum thread on apple's podcast app.

Just came across your post and having tried many suggestions previously in order to get my iPhone 6 to link with my BMW (using the Y-cable), I followed your guidance and lo and behold, it has worked like a treat. It also works with my wife's car (also BMW). I suggest anybody encountering these problems should give your advice a go!! Many thanks.

There's definitely an issue with IOS 8 which hadn't been there in previous versions. Only way I seem to get control of my music (or audioboooks) in my BMW 3 series (F25 model), via the Y-Cable, is to ready my iPhone Music App to play, turn on ignition, connect phone to the USB, the iPhone player shows up after a few seconds on the car's audio system and can be controlled through the car system. Problem is when the car is turned off - I then have to go through the same process again. Before I upgraded to IOS 8, I had full control over my music and didn't have to go through the start up process. Interestingly, on my wife's X3- a 2012 model, I have discovered that I can play and control my music when connected to the USB port.

Good news - Apple seems to be listening to its users and sorting out the bugs which cause such frustration. The latest IOS software update (IOS 8.2) which I installed yesterday seems to have corrected the problem on my iPhone 6. I can now play and fully control my music (and audiobooks) through the iPod setting in my BMW's entertainment system. Hopefully it will work too for all who were experiencing problems.
