iPhone 6 Plus Keeps Crashing PLEASE HELP!

I am a huge Apple fan, so I ask this question wishing and hoping my iPhone 6 Plus would just perform the way I know it should be.

Since restoring from my old iPhone 5S backup onto my 6 Plus 128GB (AT&T) running iOS 8.0, my 6 Plus is laggy (animations are very slow and stutter), freezy (after hitting "done" it often freezes for a good five seconds before registering the click), buggy (the keyboard sometimes doesn't appear at all, the "halos" around the folders on the home screen sometimes appear and sometimes don't, seems totally arbitrary), and crashy (whenever doing certain tasks like fast app switching, trying to change wallpaper, and others, the phone crashes, turns off the radios, then shows the Apple screen before rebooting). The crashing is happening once every five to ten minutes, making the phone VERY FRUSTRATING TO USE.

I have tried manually restarting the phone, HOME + SLEEP reset to the Apple screen, and restoring again...My next step is a factory reset and manual reinstallation of all my apps again, which is making me sick just thinking about it...

All of these things scream SOFTWARE to me, but what do I know...is anyone else experiencing these issues on the 6 Plus? Should I just be waiting for an OS update, or did I just get a lemon phone? As I said, I love Apple, and this is not a post to flame (so please save your "Go buy an Android" for someone who cares). I just want my shiny new phone to work!!! Any help is appreciated.

It's definitely not just 128 GB devices, though they may be more susceptible. My 64 GB iPhone 6 Plus is fine with 50 apps, but when running my iPhone 5 backup with ~ 1000 apps, it has all the same symptoms (except no blue/red screens that I noticed):

- Constant reboots, freezes and resprings, even when doing nothing. As in every few minutes.

- Can't swipe past the first few home screens (crash).

- Some apps (and most web bookmarks) have blank icons.

- Folders missing their background round-rect.

- Spotlight search can't find apps.

- Crash whenever try to change wallpaper.

- Severity varies from one restore attempt to the next, but always unusable.

- Generally acts like springboard has way too little RAM.

I called Apple and created a case # but they insist that one of my apps must be "bad" and (somehow?) able to destroy the whole OS (which would be a serious OS bug if that were even possible). They say I must abandon my backup and lose all my artwork/documents/game progress.

P.S. My iPad Air (128) also has ~ 1000 apps, rock solid in iOS 7, and I'm very afraid to update to iOS 8!

FWIW, 900-1000 apps is the upper limit for use. Things get progressively worse very quickly after that area. And wise move not to update to iOS 8 as that multiplies the instability factor. Unfortunately, if you exchange device now, they have iOS 8 on them.

I have rebuilt from scratch on iOS 7 and assure you that will not solve issue.

And you are correct about 1 apps ability. Apple Fans were always critical of Windows, yet Windows isolated the ability of 1 app to crash an OS in Windows NT - and went to the masses with it in Windows 2000 - 15 years ago.

The go to excuse when they cannot fix it is always reinstall as new and add apps 1 by 1....waiting a period of time between app install to see which finally makes it unstable.

Unfortunately, those with 1,000+ apps do not have 3 years to accomplish a re-install of a device.

well, they finally change my IPHONE 5S 64GB with this crash and bootloop problem...

There is not a exclusive problem of i6+ 128gb, and there is not relationship with the problem and the number of apps....

There is a hardware problem that wakes up with ios 8!!!!!!!!!

My new and shinny iphone 5s 64gb works excellent, and OH SURPRISE! cames with the older ios 7.1.2.................... and works perfectly.... im not sure if this have a tlc o mlc memory, but i dont care, i wont upgrade my phone since ios 9.

finally i solve my problem

Dec 29, 2014 10:04 AM in response to JasHayre

1- you cannot test it under older ios, but i can.... mine works fine in ios 7.1.2 and the problems started when i upgrade to ios 8

2- My problem its the same problems that all describes here. (reboot, bootloop, red screen, apps crash)

3- its a problem that affect also iphone 6+, 6, 5s and IPAD (like some users in this post)

4- no one is wrong, and no one is exactly sure what happens, because apple did not draw any statement apologizing from the issue, much less make a recall to affected devices.

if apple doesnt know what happens, I do not think YOU have the right to say I'm wrong... except you are a genius (?) haha

Fortunatelly the applecare assistant that took my case makes me an "exception" and i have a new shinny iphone 5s 64gb (that cames with ios 7.1.2, and I do not think to update for now)

Sorry my bad english

Actually, I certainly can say you are wrong. Because you have failed to read, or understand, the thread.

The red screen issue is not the "too many apps" issue. Secondly, many with the iPhone 6 problem had more apps on their previous iPhone 5/5s with iOS8, but had no crashes.

Glad you are happy with your iPhone 5s, but again, this thread is for iPhone SIX problems.

Dec 29, 2014 10:27 AM in response to FLBeachComber

i repeat: there is NOT a different problem, same problems (not ONLY reboot or crash), like red/blue screen.

this is a HARDWARE problem related with the kind of nand memory have.... ALL CASES have an iphone 6+, iphone 6, iphone 5s or IPAD with TLC flash memory (64 AND 128gb).

If you do not want to see is your problem.

time will give me the reason 🙂

cheers!

This is a common problem when carrying Apps forward from the iPhone 4 days. I have also seen this when folks think they are deleting an App from the iPhone when they press and hold an App (causing all the Icons to Shake). You can only Delete the Apps from iTunes on your computer.

What I did was go into iTunes under Settings (which is right under Summary) I clicked on Apps. Once in the Apps area you will be able to see all the Apps you have in the iCloud and on the computer. I would remove all the applications and all the data. Once the phone has been restored, then have the user restore what they need.

I have noticed this issue with an iPhone with over 1000 songs on the iPhone.

You DO NOT Need to Restore the phone as a new phone.

Hope this helps.

I could not make a FaceTime call without crashing my iPhone 6 plus 64 gig. After doing a backup and restore, which did not solve the crashing problem, I did some experimenting thinking that another app might be messing with FaceTime.

After weeks of deleting other apps I've found that VOXER, a walkie talkie type of app. was causing the crashing issue. I didn't think that apps could affect one another, but it seems they can.

I have uninstalled Voxer 5 times, used FaceTime with no issues after Voxer was uninstalled, reinstalled Voxer again after each removal, launched Voxer, and FaceTime would once again crash when attempting to make a FaceTime call. Using similar apps like WeChat or WhatsApp does not create the problem.

All this makes me wonder if various apps, possibly conflicting with one another may be the cause of some of the reported iPhone crashes?

my gold iphone 6 128gb plus is now 7 weeks old. Here are the main issues (I have only about 30 apps installed):

- poor battery life and very long recharge time (approx. 3-4 hrs from 10%).

- crashes once or twice a day (not more): on apps and when using the camera.

- intermittent poor reception with calls cutting out (happens at least once a day).

- unstable home screen, i.e easily moves to landscape and back.

No issues with wifi access, LTE access, photos or internet browsing.

Turn ON "reduce motion" and turn OFF "transparency" in Settings> Accessibility

I have experienced the same general issues on a new iPhone 6 Plus 128GB with over 40GBs of apps (85GB at present). The phone did mini crash loops, and rebooted constantly. Apple was kind enough to send me a replacement phone given my particular diagnostics. However, the new replacement had similar problems to a much, much lesser extent. I turned on "reduced motion". That fixed the problem altogether and I experience no more crashes. I turned off "transparency" too since that can also be taxing on live RAM and graphics processing with so many apps installed on the home screens. Turning on Zoom view instead of standard view helps too. However, 1Password, if you have it, will crash in zoom mode.

This problem does not exist on my iPad Air 128Gb and iPhone 5 64Gb and 2 iPads 2nd Generation 64GB. The problem likely is due to a software glitch specific mainly to iOS user interface optimization for the iPhone Plus 128GB when hundreds of apps are loaded. Please be patient till Apple finds a second software fix. Until then, try turning on the reduce motion feature and turning off transparency In Settings. Good luck. Apple has always come through for their customers. Please indicate if the solution proposed here works for you. Maybe Apple can render the home screens the background rather than live every second as a temporary fix till the real solution is found.

I am a user of iPhone 6 Plus 128GB from South Korea.

I've constantly experienced this crash problem since last Dec after getting new iPhone 6.

This is my first time to report something in this forum. I've couldn't find to solve the problem.

I have read whole the discussions related to this post. (above 29 pages)

It seems that the problem is quite critical, and it is still NOT clear what cause the problem.

(Hardware issues like TLC memory? or simply iOS Software issue?)

Main Symptoms:

* After installing above hundreds apps

- Auto-rebooting.(especially when you navigate home screen / when you install or uninstall apps)

- Constantly auto-rebooting (After iPhone going to sleep mode, it never wake up by home or sleep button. Just reboot itself again and again)

- Broken splash images are easily shown when you launch some apps (It should have unnoticed if it worked properly).

- Some titles of apps are disappeared.

- Icons of some apps -- (e.g.; default calendar) are broken.

Possible solutions and failures:

- Delete old backup data

Too old backup data may cause the problem.

From iPhone 3GS, I have a lot of messages, app data, or system data(signing data, setting data, etc)

(even the app data for not-yet-installed apps when you just recover iPhone from old backup)

: Failed!

I started with new iPhone, and installed 500+ apps, the problem occurs again.

- iOS 8.1.x upgrades might solve the problem

: Just Failed

- iOS 8.2 beta might solve the problem

: Just Failed again. (I've tested until 8.2 beta 3)

- Settings > General > Accessibility > Turn on Reduce Motion

Settings > General > Accessibility > Reduce transparency,

: Failed. It looks stable at the first time. But reboot problems occur again!

How to replicate the problem:

If you are using iPhone Plus 128G,

just try to install hundreds apps (for me 500+ approx.) -- this is not the issue of what percent of storage are filled --

Then, you will meet the symtoms above.

Big problems overlooked:

What makes the problem much severe is that the Apple never respond about this issue officially during 3~4 months

I never understand their attitude. At least, they should state that they recognize this problem and try to solve this.

A swindled and wretched customer -- me 😟 :

I've erased all content and settings of my iPhone Plus 128G four times.

Four times!

To call and receive some messages, Now I am just erasing all and using iPhone with small numbers of apps.

Simple question:

Is there someone that solved this problem?

Problem solved by replace the iPhone with new one at the service center or Apple Store?

Jan 15, 2015 12:01 AM in response to kinpain

Hi! Recently I had talk to Apple Support via Chat. In short, they suggest

to start from scratch, and install the app one by one to see which one

cause the issue. In short, an old app from the 1000 apps may causes this.

This is what I did and my phone seems ok for now. Turn off all background

update app for all those old apps. Currently, my phone seems ok unless I

switch between apps very fast, the phone will crashed. You can try this.

Good luck!
