IPAD2 very slow after IOS 8 upgrade

After IOS 8 upgrade many aplications ( Safari, Facebook, etc) load very, very slow (comparing with 7 version) , with a significant delay of more than 10 seconds...

Who can I solve this problem? Any workaround?

PD

Apple should better test the software before delivering.

Thanks.

Hi Star Traveller

Thanks for your

Of course this is a personal rule, not with a strong theoretical basis like the Moore Law 🙂 but after 5 years living with several Apple Devices I founded this rule of thumbs working well, also because several friends moved to newer iOS complained a lot about drastic slow down of performances of their devices.

On iPAD2 I cannot say if it works well or not with iOS8 but this sis my choice not to migrate. After have been really disappointed for the hard drop of performances of my iPhone 4 when I have migrated from iOS 6 to iOS7 I prefer now not to take the risk 😉

Of course you can argue what the **** I am doing with a 4 years old telephone... maybe I do not have today a budget of 900€ to buy iPhone 6

But anyway... I think Apple should prevent users with old hardware that migrating can slow down performance. Engineers knows Moore lAws. Normal user not. and at least you should give the choice if do or not.

Ideally Apple should provide the option to move back to the old OS if an user is disappointed (would be possible by the way?)

Honestly speaking I like Apple's product much more than other. But I was not happy about this "bad experience" I had with my iPhone4 when I migrate to iOS6. Really. In one day I drastically reduced performances. Even make a phone call was difficult!

Apple should always offer the best customer experience to their user. Happy user will spend money for new product.

I have the impression every time new iOS is developed Apple simply hope everybody migrate. So the one who have old hardware frustrated by the bad performances will decide maybe to buy new device. But this is not happy customer.

I am not sure if Steve Jobs would have appreciated this "bad experience" service to the customer.

Ciao

You are not alone in the iBook department. Someone else had mentioned that on this forum (you?) and I had not heard of it, until last week, when I was mentioning it at a staff meeting of a lawfirm we handle. Darned if they said they had lost not just a few files (like I lost notes, and even iTunes songs), but every one of the documents they had. They didn't know it until I mentioned it was a possibility and boom! Out of about 15 people in a meeting, 5 had iPad 2s (including me) and 3 had lost documents... The remaining 1 didn't use them so they lost nothing.

It's funny how when you are telling people there MAY be problems with their iPad 2/3/mini with iOS 8x, and they start in with the "I'm not experiencing any problems at all", then when you describe how the exact issue and ask them to check if they are having it, showing them how to duplicate an issue or what to look for, and magically, they start noticing it. They then want it fixed. Rightfully so.

I have absolutely no fix for the lost documents, because in the 3 people I have encountered personally with this problem, there's simply no help. The data is GONE. It's not in the cloud, it's not on their computer. YEARS of data - just lost.

yes, and when I tried to recover a back up from iTunes I did get the silhouette of the docs briefly and then they vanished. So, the iTunes backup is not working, or at least it will not recover docs saved under IOS7 with IOS8. Very frustrating, and yes years of data. I always assumed I could trust the iTunes backup.

have you tried to restore docs from backup?

That's exactly the case with the 3 people I spoke with. They trusted itunes backups, but they failed them. Which is true of my own notes which I have lost for good..... I can live without my notes, I just want the speed back and the copy/paste functioning, and the apps to stop wigging out =)

I have double and triple backups, depending on which data I'm talking about. Also, there needs to be periodic checks on the operation of restoral. This is one of the SUPER CRITICAL AREAS for a user to be familiar with!

Yep! I'm the same way, in fact, with our business, the server is backed up to an onsite NAS, that nas is backed up to an identical one in a data center, and we use a cloud backup (Servosity) on top of that, then we have a redundant server on site, which is rsync'd to one at my home. That seems to work well for us.

But my iPad, like my clients, was only backed up to iTunes (cloud and computer)... The geniuses cannot get the data back for me, and my clients have been unable to restore their's as well...

Agreed! Prior to iOS 8, I had restored my backup to another iPad, and it worked great.... (while I was replacing the screen on mine, I used a spare I had)... Just as it was supposed to. It was only after iOS 8.0.0 was installed and later 8.0.1, 8.0.2 and now 8.1 that I even realized that certain notes (not all of mine, just a large majority) are gone. Multiple restore attempts from the computer, and from the cloud, not all the notes.

Fortunately, again, some of the lost ones are also on my Microsoft Exchange server, and not just entrusted to Apple... Those were easy to get back, but alas, not all of them were there. They will be next time. Again, it's not a huge deal with my own notes.

Do not completely lose faith in Apple. There are a couple of complacent voices in this discussion group that are trying to paper over the massive cracks in IOS8. Some of the issues of IOS8 are still only coming to light - the corruption of iBooks and the failure of backups. None of my personal contacts that have upgraded to IOS8 have a functioning device. This problem is much broader than others would have you believe.its just a shame so many loyal customers are suffering.

That is a very impressive backup regime! My backup regime is much simpler. ITune s back up multiple times a week for iPads and iPhones to my iMac which is backed up via Timemachine to my Time capsule every hour. I thought a very stable regime. Unfortunately, it doesn't work when I try to restore a backup from iTunes. Does rather dent one's faith in the whole backup regime - maybe i should try and restore from the TimeCapsule? Not sure I have the faith at the moment

You should not have 'relied upon Apple's prior great record of reliability?'. Either your data is important enough to you to take individual and extremely secure steps to back it up or you do not. In which case an iOS/3rd Party App conflict or the actual theft of accidental damage to the device may render it inoperable. I backup my iPod on iTunes. I can recover my music if something fails. I backup my photos to iPhoto and then to an external drive. I back my documents up to iCloud and Dropbox. I then retrieve the on my Mac and transfer them to an external drive. Devices die. Devices get broken, devices get stolen. Backup is your number 1 protection against such instances.

iTunes is NOT a reliable backup on it's own. In fact Time Machine is not a reliable backup on it's own. Neither are any of the other types of online storage out there or in the cloud. Always keep two backups and keep one elsewhere than your own home. Always have a bootable clone as one of your backups. Regularly updated.

You can choose only iTunes. Nobody in any businesses I deal with would. But we all have choices. Many here are here to complain because they made the wrong choice and have now lost important data. We have SOME responsibility as iPad, iPhone or Mac users to protect our important data, Computers are not magic boxes.

Cheers

Pete
