IPAD2 very slow after IOS 8 upgrade

After IOS 8 upgrade many aplications ( Safari, Facebook, etc) load very, very slow (comparing with 7 version) , with a significant delay of more than 10 seconds...

Who can I solve this problem? Any workaround?

PD

Apple should better test the software before delivering.

Thanks.

It is a little amusing that the iPad 3 is never mentioned again though. *cough*

EVERY iPad 3 entered into our system since the original 8.0.0 release still has problems. Just not as bad as the 2s. Our clients are screaming mostly about the iPad2. A large percentage have switched to different tablets now. I don't have exact numbers on that, but a guess tells me 30-40% ditched their devices.

Dear Apple,

i understand that you like to sell us new iPads, but crippling older devices with software updates you can't roll back from is just low. And in the case that this wasn't intentional, it's still a very serious f-up. As a developer I have quite an assortment of tablets and phones, and i'm not really affected, but this makes me angry enough to use the little power i have and advice clients to switch to android.

After Reading all tha it seems that Apple does not want to keep iPad2 or 3 customers. They have managed to ruin a perfectly good machine. Having been a loyal customer ever since the MacSE it seems to be time to move on to Android machines. they cost 1/2 as much and it seems that the manufacturers do not willfully and wantonly destroy their customers property.

What Aple has done to iPhone4 and iPad2/3 customers feels like theft. If a stranger did that to one's property it is likely that person would be sued. If Apple does that to us customers we act like friendly sheep and throw mor money at them ... Are we all that hooked?

Petermac, I understand that you hold the key to the problem. Why not share it with the rest of us? It may have been posted already much earlier in this forum, but it is very difficult to search for specific information. So if you could guide us the post where we can find the troubleshooting solutions I believe many users will be grateful.

The bottom line here is simply ... if you lost files, your "backup methodology" is DEFECTIVE!

You (and everyone else who "doesn't know" or understand) need to review your backup methodology, understand how it works, and then devise your new backup methodology. The bottom line here is that if you lose data, it's YOUR FAULT because of your defective backup methodology.

Start by FIRST reviewing two backup procedures from Apple, and then look into supplementary backup procedures (one, for example, being Dropbox) ...

I couldn't agree more... It's everyone's fault they lost files because they trusted in the backup provided by Apple. Nowhere does Apple say their backup works flawlessly, so don't think it will.

I wish people could just get it through their head that all the problems they are having are their own fault. Sheesh. iPad slower with iOS 8x? Yep, you did it wrong. Thanks Star Traveler for fighting the good fight.

The problem you have here with this idea of backups ... is that you think there exists ANYWHERES such a thing as a backup program or app that is 100% flawless. You think it exists, and then you (and others) get upset when you find out that such a thing DOES NOT EXIST.

You see, the people who KNOW IT DOESN'T EXIST ... then they develop a "backup methodology" that compensates for the fact that no such service or app exists which is 100%.

THERE is your problem!

@leslie

Thanks for reassuring me. I'd resisted purchasing Apple products, because of its closed garden approach to development. I bought an ipad, because I expected to benefit from such control leading to a more stable product. Especially given the constraints on functionality of an ipad compared to a PC and its size compared to a smartphone. It seems I was wrong.

YYes, it is very very disappointing. We all know things go wrong, mistakes are made, it's how you handle the situation that counts, lets hope the update is available soon. I would recommend a clean install After you have backed up fully. My iPad runs after a total wipe, no extra apps but it's still slow and Safari crashes still!

Star Traveler, I am sure there are admins monitoring this forum, and they certainly can handle comments that are misplaced. So please, leave it up to them.

So far, I haven't read a single report about a fully satisfactory recovery of an iPad 2 running iOS8. If you can bring forward a few users who will testify that their iPad 2 is running with no problems and at full speed (=like 7.1.1) after the upgrade to iOS8 (or after they went through a recommended troubleshooting process), I will believe that it can be done. You seem to be so sure, there must be at least one single owner of an iPad 2 who you know personally. Until then, I fear that your posts are not very helpful and possibly even misleading.

I have an iPad 3. After a reset to factory defaults, I have installed iOS 8.0 and set it up as a new iPad. Then, I installed just the apps and infomration I really need. Much of it is in a cloud (iCloud, Dropbox, Evernote, Wuala, GoogleDrive...), mirrored on my Mac and backed up (yes, I use TimeMachine, on two separate drives, so far no problems whatsoever and several successful recoveries). I mostly had to reenter some login info. Later, I installed iOS 8.1 directly "over the air".

The good: everything seems to function properly as it should. In particular, I like the interaction between the apps, which has improved a lot. On the downside, there is a noticeable slowdown, for example, launching and switching of apps and browsing the web. Typing text in some webforms can be very annoying (typing in this forum is acceptable but again, there is a noticeable lag).

So, overall I am satisfied because there is stuff I couldn't do before (or not a easily). But I would be extremely thankful if I could recover some of the previous snappines and reactivity, perhaps with the next update. But this may be just whishful thinking. On the other hand, I understand all the users who don't take advantage of the new functionality, and who are just frustrated because their iPad 2 or 3 is much slower now and less reactive (with no way back).

I Have exactly same problem with my IPAD2, and recently coomented on this? Big brother apple removed my comments because apparently the were polling?.

WEll i am not polling here when i state that i would not ever by any of the other apple products until they can demonstrate that they have adopt a better customer care policy.

bottom line with my IPAD 2 is that I will probably change to a samsung

There are moderators for this forum, and they have the "Report Post" button to alert them to issues, which I've used a bit and have seen the moderators respond to that alert. While the moderators cannot be everywhere at all times, other users "can be" and other users can also call attention to the a Terms of Use. Now ... if someone wishes to ignore the Terms of Use and the moderators haven't seen it, I will answer those who are ignoring it -- "in kind" comparable to their post. AND ... if moderators see that, they will not only delete the original poster, but they'll delete my "in kind post" right along with it. I'll leave it up to the moderators if they want to do that, too.
