Why does Siri bluetooth connection in 2008 Toyota Prius with iOS 8 terminate outgoing call with message "call terminated by network" on Prius screen

Since installing iOS 8 , we can't get Siri to make outgoing calls with the Prius Bluetooth. Incoming calls work, but we get a message on the Prius screen, "call terminated by network" whenever we tell Siri to call out. She will recognize who we're calling, but as soon as the dialing starts, we get the call terminated message.

Any similar experience or ideas?

Add me to the list of frustrated Apple users. Their motto now needs to be "It just doesn't work". I've been troubleshooting this issue for weeks and no one would acknowledge they had even heard about it. Upon going to higher tech support or whatever it was called, I was told there would be an update out Monday (10/20) that would resolve this issue. It did not. I have a 2006 Toyota Prius and Siri calling worked fine prior to 8.0.

I have a 2009 Lexus GS and have the same problem with making calls with Siri while my iPhone 5 is connected via bluetooth. I installed iOS 8.1 today, and nothing changed, but I didn't expect it to. Hopefully, Apple will figure out a fix and get it to us soon.

I want to comment on the discussion about whose "fault" this problem is. We all know it worked fine before iOS 8. It may be a bluetooth programming error or Siri coding error in iOS 8 by Apple. It may be because Apple correctly implemented a newer version of bluetooth with iOS 8, and Toyota/Lexus' bluetooth software is incompatible with the newer version. So, in some sense, iOS 8 may have "caused" the problem, but the fault may lie with Toyota/Lexus. Or not.

Regardless, Apple needs to address the issue and resolve it. If it involves talking to Toyota, then they need to do it. If they can fix the problem my adjusting iOS 8 (even if it's not Apple's "fault") to work with Toyota's software, they need to do that. They can't just say, "It's Toyota's problem." It's a feature of Apple's product, and they do make it work.

i have this same issue on a 2009 Venza. The bluetooth works fine foe everything EXCEPT when using siri to initiate the call. It always hangs up. This has been going since the 4s so perhaps it's not an iphone issue at all. Toyotas builtin voice command system is totally impractical - it takes at least a minute to go through the voice prompts to make a call. Toyota has told me that there is no firmware update for the Venza. I just want It to work.

What? If you would have read and/or understood some of the other posts, you would have seen others with Toyota vehicles, including myself, had no problem with iPhone 4s, 5, 5s before iOS8. Specifically with the problem initiating a call using Siri, no disconnection, no problem. If they don't fix it soon I will have to rollback at least 2 of my iPhones to pre-iOS8 to regain this functionality.

And, manual dialing of a hand held cellphone while driving, is unsafe and in many states illegal.

With all due respect, the iPhone's "voice dial and Siri" as well as all dialing functions operate outside of the admittedly cumbersome system built into Toyota made vehicles.

This is a different problem and discussion and you should really look through the thread so you better understand what we are discussing. The Bluetooth connection is being made. Something was changed in the coding of IOS8+ that effected the way the connection interacts with the vehicle and is dropping calls initiated on the phone into the vehicle via Bluetooth.

It has worked in all versions prior to IOS 8+ and I have had it work with several other smartphones and cellphones with Bluetooth and voice dialing.

It is is Apple hands to undo what they broke. It concerns me greatly. It is a safety issue and heaven forbid someone is distracted because they can't just say "Call John Smith" and have to manually look up and number and make the call which is illegal in my state, this is more than a troublesome bug.

Shame on you Apple! You should have your engineers get a Toyota vehicle, reproduce the problem and fix it immediately! It's disgraceful how long this is taking to get a fix. For every one person that writes on this board, how many thousands are effected? Shame on you Apple! You have customers loyal enough to stay with Apple after this disgrace.

You know about this board. Have someone give us a status update. Get it fixed!!

As I've been working with Apple on my issue, I've made it clear that I don't want to be told this is a Toyota firmware issue. The bluetooth connectivity works just fine and that the only issue I'm having is when Sir attempts to make the outgoing call.

I have a follow up call scheduled for tomorrow from Apple once the engineers get back to the rep I've been working with.

Same problem here. I have a Lexus GX 470 and an iphone 5. Everything has worked just fine when I had a 4s and when I upgraded to the 5 until I installed iOS 8. Calls I attempt to make using Siri are immediately terminated. I, too, do not want to hear that this is a Lexus firmware issue...instead, Apple fix your sh*t. My loyalties to Apple are waning fast.

I'm not apologizing for Apple here, because I agree with everyone that they need to fix it, but does anyone else besides me wonder why no one's reporting the same issue with Bluetooth dialing with any car manufacturer's systems other than Toyota/Lexus? If Apple "broke" something, why does Bluetooth dialing apparently still work for everyone else's cars? It might be similar to an issue with some websites being "broken" by a new release of Safari. In many of those cases, Apple implemented HTML in Safari correctly, which "broke" the ability to see websites that were not properly coded. Could that be the case with Toyota and their Bluetooth implementation? Don't get me wrong - it's on Apple to get it fixed, but the problem may lie with Toyota's implementation, not Apple's.

Just Google the phrase "XXX siri bluetooth disconnect", where XXX = the name of about any car manufacturer, and you will quickly discover this is NOT just a Toyota problem. The Technology Specialist at my Lexus dealer (who, a week after the iOS8 release, told me I was his 58th caller about the disconnect problem) was quite knowledgeable about this, and said it was an issue with numerous car manufacturers.

I posted earlier that Apple downloaded a file onto my iPhone 6 so they could obtain various data about my disconnected calls. I have not heard back from them since they uploaded that data from me. I will check back with them and post their response as to where things stand (LOL, on the off-chance they even know and/or tell me).

I went through the same troubleshooting procedure and file download as you. I did hear from Apple and all they would say is that it's an "emerging issue" and to keep an eye out for an update to correct. No timeline was provided.

I think anyone on these boards who have not opened up a ticket for this issue, they should. Flooding Apple with trouble tickets may help them speed things up as that impacts their performance numbers.
