Why does Siri bluetooth connection in 2008 Toyota Prius with iOS 8 terminate outgoing call with message "call terminated by network" on Prius screen

Since installing iOS 8 , we can't get Siri to make outgoing calls with the Prius Bluetooth. Incoming calls work, but we get a message on the Prius screen, "call terminated by network" whenever we tell Siri to call out. She will recognize who we're calling, but as soon as the dialing starts, we get the call terminated message.

Any similar experience or ideas?

I'm having the same issue with the iPhone 6 and my 2007 Toyota Prius. I have no problem pairing the phone with the car's Bluetooth system. I can manually dial a call and it works fine. However, whenever I try to make a call using Siri, the call gets dropped--terminated by the network. I've tried turning off Bluetooth on my phone, restarting it, and turning it on again. Same results. I tried deleting the connection in my car's Bluetooth system and re-pairing it with the phone. Same results. I installed iOS 8.1.1 today and it did not fix the problem. BTW, I had an iPhone 4S for three years and never had this problem. Waiting for Apple to fix this one...

I have the same problem with my 2007 Prius. The simple fix of deleting and reestablishing the Bluetooth connection does not work.

After 25 years as a software developer I can say that the correct solution to this problem from the user perpective is for the user to revert to iOS 7.

By doing this the consumer can avoid lengthy customer support calls, trouble shooting and testing. Apple, however, refuses to respect the value of the consumer's time and provide a supported means to revert to iOS 7.

The amount testing and troubleshooting demanded of the consumer for a device that costs just a few hundred dollars is innappropriate.

These devices are supposed to be SIMPLE. Apple is slipping into a support paradigm for this product that puts too much burden on the consumer and completely doesn't fit the cost model for owning and using one of these devices. It's just a phone - not a mainframe computer with a staff to support it!

I tried to contact Apple regarding this issue, but they wanted to charge me the $29 tech support fee, which I refused since I know this is not a device-related problem and their software problem. They said the time frame for complimentary support for iOS 8 upgrade issues has expired. The rep, Sarah, said that they have not had other issues reported about this problem, so I offered to give her the link to this thread but she said I would need to pay before she could move forward. How ridiculous...

I upgraded my phone to IPhone 6. There is no going back. I am not a "fan boy" but I do use Apple products because sans this irritation, their products work. We are well into a developed product. The thread front page has been viewed over 37 thousand times. Doubtless that someone making decisions at Apple is not aware of the problem. Perhaps we are too small a minority for Apple to put this "bug" on their priority list.

Perhaps if we tried social media or direct email we would get the common courtesy of an answer as to the status of this situation.

I have paraphrased the originator's email and pointed to this thread in email to ****** ****** and ****** If Tim Cook drove a Toyota made vehicle this would be resolved. Tom Cooks Twiitter handle is @Tim_Cook.

I used to do beta testing years ago and *******went to an assistant in the CEO's office.

I feel like posting on this forum is preaching top the choir and we must step up the volume to someone who can make things happen. My email alone won't do anything but 10,000 emails would get this fixed.

If anyone has better info as to who to contact please post it. Perhaps someone lower down the food chain or Craig Frederighi.

Calling support alone isn't getting this to the developers working on the next public version of IOS.

Maybe I'll start to blog about this.

This is a safety concern as many of us count on our iPhone and all of our mobile phones to make “hands free calls” and the new iPhone 6 and phones upgraded to IOS8 don’t work on our Toyota made vehicles. Many Toyota Prius and Lexus owners have been posting to a thread,

https://discussions.apple.com/thread/6553205

on Apple’s support boards and spending countless hours on the phone with Apple support lodging complaints and walking through this issue. We have not had resolution or even official reply from Apple since IOS 8 was released. The thread has been viewed over 37000 times and this is not my previous experience in my many years using Apple products.

Driving and not being able to use an iPhone or worse, someone getting hurt being distracted is a terrible thought.

Please let me know what can be done. "

Has Toyota commented on this? Apple said I should check for a firmware upgrade there. My Toyota service center says they can't tell about firmware updates from my service records and I'll burn half a day to take it into the shop to have it checked. I also have started a problem ticket with Apple. No matter who's fault this is, hands free was working great before iOS8. There will be a new law here (Austin TX) in January making it illegal to use your hands on the phone while driving.

Hands Free has been the law in my state for some time and people who are fidgeting with anything distracting are more likely to have an accident. That has been proven. The Bluetooth worked fine for 7 years in my 2007 Lexus. It worked fine on my first iPhone 3g with voice dialing before it even had cut and paste. And four or five other phones from a Motorola Razor to an old Windows phone (they didn't even call it a smartphone) but the voice dial with Bluetooth worked perfectly.

It also downloaded my contacts in 2007. This is a "stick in the eye". Lexus isn't working on firmware on a 7 year old car even with the extended warranty. Bluetooth is a "standard" and they made it with specifications so that things like this wouldn't happen.

The old standard didn't change and though Bluetooth may have been upgraded from 1.0 to 4.1 to work better and more consistently, it was always backwards compatible.

More than 20,000 companies participate (Wikipedia) and this short area data transmission standard can be fixed. The problem is obviously Apple who has us all, by our commitment to stay with the IOS platform and other Apple platforms. We can't fight Apple and win. But not to give loyal customers a working system in nothing short of outrageous.

Heavens forbid, but when the first "class action" is brought against the company because this serious hazard is not being addressed, people will be jumping to get it fixed.

I hope we are "loud' enough so it doesn't have to be a vehicle accident that brings this to the attention of the people that can fix it. Apple changed something, Toyota didn't. We all know Apple can fix this. We just need to get their attention.

It goes further than that. The problem has been reported on German and American cars as well. And besides the problems with the iPhone, which is the most important one due to the safety implications, I've had Safari freeze up several times on my iPad with iOS 8. By comparson, I've never had this happen with Windows Explorer on the PC. In other words, the lack of quality control takes on the appearance of being broader in scope than just the Bluetooth issue.

I always wait for a few release cycles before upgrading my OS. You would think that by version 8.1 Safari on an iPad would be stable.
