Why does Siri bluetooth connection in 2008 Toyota Prius with iOS 8 terminate outgoing call with message "call terminated by network" on Prius screen

Since installing iOS 8 , we can't get Siri to make outgoing calls with the Prius Bluetooth. Incoming calls work, but we get a message on the Prius screen, "call terminated by network" whenever we tell Siri to call out. She will recognize who we're calling, but as soon as the dialing starts, we get the call terminated message.

Any similar experience or ideas?

I don't believe it matters what branded stereo is in your vehicle. Toyota/Lexus installed a Bluetooth Component and packaged it with the Navigation system and/or stereo and uses the stereo's speakers. However, it is not part of the stereo itself. It is a Bluetooth device. On my car *(2007 Lexus) you make the connection on the same screen the navigation and stereo use, but the must be a Bluetooth receiver/device.

This is not unsolvable. The fix, if Apple ever makes one will either be part of a major version upgrade of IOS like 8.2 or an incremaental version that is just made for this isolated problems and a couple of other possible issues.

BTW- This is just my experience of doing upgrades of all kinds of Apple devices for years. I just don't know if the right person has heard about this yet, if they care at all and if they do what priority this is on the list.

It's still hard to believe someone who can get something done in development has seen this thread- Apple use to specialize in customer service. This is a total meltdown in my confidence. I am absolutely sure an Apple developer could get this resolved in hours if not minutes with a vehicle or even the Bluetooth system from a vehicle.

This really socks.

I finally am able to use Siri to initiate AND complete calls using my iPhone 6 in my 2007 Toyota Prius. Here's what I did:

Updated to iOS 8.1.2

Went to Settings on my iPhone and turned Bluetooth off.

Powered down my phone.

Disabled the Bluetooth Connection to my phone on my Prius' touchscreen.

Powered my phone back on (for some reason Bluetooth was still enabled on my phone when it powered up.

Turned Bluetooth off again on my phone, then turned it back on again.

Re-enabled the Bluetooth connection in my Prius.

It now works!

I have a Toyota Avalon 2014 Hybrid. The bluetooth worked perfect until the first fix of IOS 8. After the first "fix," my music skips and stops. Calls are not great. The latest update (8.1.2) has made it even worse, if that is possible. Apple also told me that I just had to contact Toyota. Toyota did not know what I was talking about. My son's Android works just fine in the Avalon. I really wish Apple would fix this issue for all of its loyal customers.....

I am beyond disappointed. This should be the worst problem in my life , but it's an irritant that will either be fixed by the next full IOS version update or some people will jump.

If you work out of your car and use your phone a lot, this is not a tenable alternative even if you want to hang on.

I am seriously thinking that if this isn't fixed by the time the Samsung Galaxy 6 is released I will bail.

Converted from Windows around Vista time and didn't look back. Apple, iPads etc... 100%- today, and it will be difficult to make a move.

It's either that or carry two phones because one day I'm going to have an accident if I continue to use the iPhone 6.

I don't have a fix for this problem, but I have figured out two ways to deal with it for a while, until they find a real solution. First....although I cannot get Siri to connect with the Prius hands free calls, it will try to initiate the call, prior to the message that the network disconnected. Then, if you go to recent calls, that person (or store, etc) will be at the top of the list. You can then just click on the name manually and it will make the call. Still not safe and still not legal, but better than dialing a number by hand.

Better yet....Siri and the Prius will cooperate in sending a text. So I can text a friend and tell them I'm driving and would they please call me. Then when they initiate the call, I can answer the call and talk hands free. This works well if I need to let them know I will be late, or I need directions, etc.

Hopefully one of these days Apple will at least let us know they are working on this problem!! Keep letting them know this is important.

I was using this workaround for a while, unfortunately update v8.1.2 wiped out this functionality. The last call initiated by Siri no longer appears on the recent calls list.

My experienceotherwisewith 8.1.2 has already been stated by others.

2007 & 2009 Prius, iPhone 6+, 5, 4s iOS 8.1.2

We upgraded 1 of our phones to a 6+, needless to say we won't be doing our 4 others until this is resolved. Nice Christmas/Hanukkah present Apple, NOT!

I submitted an official bug to Apple and got this response:

This is actually the car kit's fault. The car kit is erroneously sending a 'hangup' event that in iOS 7 occurred in between the end of the Siri session and before the real call is dialed, but timing changed in iOS 8 and the hangup event comes when the real call is dialing. Our timing change to more closely mimic what happened in iOS 7 is in iOS 8.2 and beyond. This may still fail in some scenarios (some Toyotas actually send TWO hangup events), but we cannot solve that without breaking other car kits.
