iPhone 6 Plus Volume

I recently purchased an iPhone 6 Plus and I noticed that the volume when on a call is very, very low. I turned the volume all the way up and there is still no improvement. When I had my iPhone 5S, I was able to actually turn down the volume because it was loud. Is anyone else having this problem?

Device: iPhone 6 Plus

Capacity: 128GB

Color: Black/Space Grey

*Phone volume is normal when on a call through Speakerphone or BT connection. Volume level problem is only experienced when using the ear piece.

Not trying to offend anyone...

Respectfully, can we please not talk about that protective screen that comes with the phone.

I am not the smartest person around but that protective screen very visibility covers the earpiece and most of the folks remove it before using the phone.

For my phone, for sure, its not the case. Quick test with my old iPhone 5 shows there is an issue with my iPhone 6 plus

update: so i went back to koodo and told them how the apple store had disappointed me.. the koodo girl gave me a new phone to try.. i had her try out the call volume of the new one while i was there.. from the landline, she agreed the call volume was really low.. but then from her cell phone, the call volume was ok (not perfect, but hearable).. the new headphones much better than the ones that came with my original 6+.. so i'm trying to take most calls on the headphones too.. i'm still 6+er for now..

Respectfully, at least 8 or 10 people have responded here in this very thread saying that leaving the plastic cover on WAS their problem. I've also seen it many more times than this in other threads on this forum over the years, so it absolutely is a valid troubleshooting step for this problem. Although it might not be the solution to YOUR problem, the suggestion has obviously helped more than a handful of people, so why would you think it should not be mentioned if could help people other than yourself?

I just picked up a new iPhone 6 Plus (64GB, Black, Verizon) from Best Buy few days ago and discovered this low phone call volume issue that everyone on this post is experiencing. I too was frustrated to find that such a basic feature of a telephone is causing such grief for many; let's face it, as smart a phone this may be it's still a phone which must provide its basic needs, which is call quality.

After having read all the posts and finding no credible fix, let alone discovering what is the actual problem, i.e., hardware or software issue, I had decided I would be returning the phone back to BB. However, this morning I discovered something which may shed some light onto this problem and a solution as well. By the way I had followed all the advices which had been posted previously to my post, including removing the film over the earpiece by way of cutting out the portion covering the earpiece, all to no avail however.

The fix, at least for me was the following: go to 'Settings' --> 'General' --> 'Accessibility'. From 'Accessibility' scroll down to 'Hearing' section to find 'Phone Noise Cancellation'. Set the PNC to 'Off" position (by default the PNC is set to 'On'). Once I did this the call volume increased dramatically, almost to the point of this becoming a non-issue. This apparently lends me to believe is a software issue because the purpose of PNC is to reduce ambient noise during phone calls when one is holding the receiver to one's ear. Therefore, once PNC is disabled the phone does not interfere with the incoming call volume.

For now, I may just keep my iP6+ because aside from this call volume issue, which is now addressed via PNC setting, is a great piece of hardware. I hope many would read my post and try this adjustment to confirm if positive results can be had like mine. Please follow up by posting your results.

I have read this whole thread and tried a few of the suggestions. Nothing worked. I just got of the "chat" with Apple tech support. He and me go to SETTINGS, GENERAL, RESET AND RESET ALL SETTINGS. The phone took a minute or so to reboot, but the volume appears to be good now. He said that there are so many settings that this is the best way to make sure they are set back to factory. He said that something may have gotten changed in a backup or a software update. You will need to reset some personal things (WiFi and ringtones). I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this works. As of now, looks like it was definitely a software issue.

i tried everything (all settings changes, visit to apple store).. right after each adjustment, i wanted the call volume to be better, and a couple times convinced myself that it was.. but in the end, i think it was the quiet of my home that made me think the call volume was corrected (phone noise cancellation idea did help though, but not enough).. didn't try the reset idea.. but too late now.. i was on a replacement 6+, on a sidewalk, slightly windy day, with a bit of traffic, and barely able to hear my caller.. the last straw.. 6+ a great phone, but loving my 5s now (coming from a 4s)

I was freaking out with the low sound in my iPhone 6, however after a full day of panicking and booking Genius Bar appointments mine ended up being a foolish and easy fix. Apple's online support fixes helped, even if some of the solutions seemed quite obvious. My fix was through clearing the receiver. What had happened was the plastic screen cover (put on my iPhone by someone else) was blocking the receiver with parts that were meant to come out but had not. Hope this helps.

Try this first. When you are connected to a call press your sound up or down buttons on the upper left-hand side. If you have problems with the ringer on off switch, it is a switch not a push button. Somehow they, the cell phone service providers, neglected to tell all us manual-ignorants about the most important feature on a smartphone how to control the sound.

This appears to be a known iOS 8 problem. In my case the Apple chat representative said: "Since the bluetooth (my Bluetooth earphones which I previously had paired with the phone) was connected, Sometimes the volume doesn't change back to the regular settings after you stop using the bluetooth and use the earbuds." He's having me do a restore of the phone (7 hour download). I think I'm going to abort that and try your Reset All Settings soluiton instead. Hopefully the next iOS update will fix this problem.
