iPhone 6 Plus Volume

I recently purchased an iPhone 6 Plus and I noticed that the volume when on a call is very, very low. I turned the volume all the way up and there is still no improvement. When I had my iPhone 5S, I was able to actually turn down the volume because it was loud. Is anyone else having this problem?

Device: iPhone 6 Plus

Capacity: 128GB

Color: Black/Space Grey

*Phone volume is normal when on a call through Speakerphone or BT connection. Volume level problem is only experienced when using the ear piece.

Hi Guys

I am an iPhone 6 owner, I was also facing the same problem as you guys. I don't think it is a hardware issue per se. Below is what I did and I think is a fix for this problem.

The new iPhones use VOLTE(Voice over LTE) technology. This means that you can browse the internet and talk at the same time on 4G. This technology actually sends the voice as data and not the normal call that you make.

Coming to the fix:

1) Go to Settings -> Cellular -> Enable 4G (Switch on cellular data if you can't see enable 4G)

2) You will get 3 options there: Off, Voice&Data, Data Only

3) Check which option is enabled for you.

4) If it is Voice&Data change it to 'Data Only' or 'Off'.

Changing to 'Data only' will route all your data through 4G speed, but the voice calls will be made through 3G. You will actually see 3G, while making a call. You can verify this.

Changing to 'Off', will switch off 4G completely. Voice and Data go through 3G.

I found that changing to 'Data only' or 'Off' improved and increased the earpiece volume on my iPhone.

This worked for me, hopefully it will work for you guys too.

I think sending Voice over LTE improves voice quality but decreases the overall earpiece volume.

I am a musician. Just bought the iphone 6 plus. I like listening to music on my head phones while training. However, after trying almost everything the sound levels are way too low on my phone, probably around 10 DB low. I presume this can be fixed with a software upgrade. So i really hope apple doesnt disappoint or ill just have to switch back to iPhone 5.

We are having the same problem with the iphone 6 plus. I have tried every suggestion posted prior to this. Nothing has helped.

Siri is loud. Music is loud. Voices on a call or voice mail are very low.

Obviously the sound for calls and voice mails are not working right, as they should be as loud as everything else!

Apple is known for being easy to use and synced up. One should not have to change the volume for a call and then lower it for Siri or other sounds.

Hubby called Apple. They said return it. However, it doesn't sound like it's a singular phone issue. It's a developer/engineering issue.

Now he is on the phone with Verizon tech. They are just as non - helpful.

Very disappointed...as I just bought an iphone 6 today! Haven't made a call yet...but wow..disappointing.

The issue has already been established as a software issue and no amount of tinkering with the settings will fix it.

What you are experiencing is simply a placebo effect. Been diagnosing iPhone issues for 7 years an I can tell you

I been through every single troubleshooting step. I'm on my third 6+ i waited for iOS 8.1 to fix this and it did not. The fact that

everything else sounds perfect through the receiver except voice calls means it's a software developer issue. And enough

with these post of people wondering if you still have the plastic on. Like really who's that stupid to leave the plastic on. This post has over

11,000 views and it's time for Apple to realize there is an issue.

Just moved from IPhone 4S (+three years) to IPhone 6 Plus. Have the low volume issue. Has low volume with version 8.0 out of the box and has low volume after upgrade to Version 8.1.

Bottom Speaker volume is fine. Ear speaker volume with all but phone calls seems to be acceptable. Really have issues hearing a phone conversation.

Wife has IPhone 6 (we received both yesterday evening). I will do a good comparison tonight to see if I can hear a difference.

At this point I feel I am returning the plus..

P.S. No plastic issues here.. Tried all the settings listed before reading this thread...

Just received my replacement iPhone 6 plus which was supposed to replace the first one with the phone call audio issue. Out of box (after updating to 8.1) has same problem. Side by side comparison with a iphone 5 left no doubt. Yes I removed the plastic, tried all the various placebo hearing aid and noise reduction setting changes, etc. Speaker phone works great. All other audio works great. And If I plug the native iphone headphones into the jack the call volume is great. Is this a hardware or software issue? If hardware, I will try for a 3rd phone or take it to Verizon or Apple. If software, then??? Please help

Just got my replacement iphone 6 plus over this issue. Updated to 8,1. removed the plastic, tested the placebo sound settings, et al. What I have to add is I have observed that when I use the native headphones the call volume is quite loud. I am wondering if that speaks to a hardware, rather than software issue? Trying to decide if I should go for a third iphone 6 plus. If it could be hardware, may be worth a shot. Thoughts?

I just got off the phone with Apple and have been a long time supporter of this company but unfortunately no longer am, they want me to send my iPhone 6+ back with a $800 hold on my card which I do not have, they leave me no choice but to return the phone to Target and for me to get my money back and get out of this two year contract, other fourms have said that Apple gave them overnight shipping for free and a $75 gift card for the hassle with no hold on a credit card, they could offer me neither....I'm starting to think everything happens for reason... I sell tablets and phones for a living with my small business and have always supported and praised Apple, now I no longer will, this will probably only cost them 10,000 or so in my local small business sales but they did not seem to give a crap about me or how long i've been a customer for, I've had every single iPhone that has come out, but no more, I am so shamed of you Apple...goodbye I am done with you

HI!

I have the same fuxxing problem.

I had an iPhone 6 plus and iPhone 6 side by side.

Both in call volumes far too low.

Compared to my iPhone 5c (and also to my 5s):

The 5c set on half of the max volume during a call is the same volume on the iPhone 6 volume switched to maximum.

I am talking about the earpiece and not the external speaker or headset.

Removed all covers etc.

Sent the 6 plus back. Still absolutely frustrating on my iPhone 6.

I'm having the same issue with my iPhone 6 plus except with me the speaker volume is also not very loud. Although with a bluetooth device or using the stock headphones, the audio is great and i have to turn the volume down sometimes cause it's too loud. I'd love to use the headphones / headset all the time, but then ALL sounds go through the headphones and i never hear if there's an alert or incoming call unless i was looking at the phone. Even the keyboard "clicks" go through the headset - which is funny because there's sometimes a delay between the clicking and the bluetooth device.

Hope Apple fixes the issue post-haste.

Ok so i tried my friends native headphones which came with iPhone 5 and the music was loud and clear. When i got home, i tried my own iPhone 6 plus native headphones......not loud enough....I tried another friends BEATS Studio 0501 the wireless model ....it sounded amazing. I dont know what to do with my handset. Is this a problem with the phone or the software? should i get it changed or get new headphones? or just wait for an upgrade?
