Q: iCloud uninstall/upgrade error 2343

I have iCloud 3.1 running on Windows 8.1 x64 without problem.  I'm trying to upgrade to 4.0 through Apple Software Update and I was getting an error.  I have also tried to uninstall iCloud entirely or do a repair and I get the same error each time:

 

The installer has encountered an unexpected error installing this package.  This may indicate a problem with this package.  The error code is 2343.

 

On the main uninstall window the step it is on says: Status: Removing INI files entries

 

I've tried uninstalling with RevoUninstall Free, but iCloud isn't listed in its view.  I ran the Microsoft FixIt and it ran for more than 2 hours and never finished.  After that, iCloud was missing from the Programs and Features window but I still couldn't install 4.0

 

I did a System Restore to last week and the same error.

 

How can I get it fully uninstalled or find out what INI file it is trying to look at?

 

The only thing I can think of is that I used to have Office 2013 installed which I have since uninstalled and maybe iCloud was still trying to point to that, although I was only using iCloud for Photostream and nothing with syncing contacts or e-mail.

 

I tried running ProcessMonitor while unininstalling to see if I could see what it was attempting, but didn't find it.

    I finally got it sorted.  Using some of the information from here: Can't Update to iCloud for Windows 4.0.2

    I uninstalled all Apple products including iTunes and Updates.  iCloud wouldn't remove, so I used the Microsoft troubleshooter to force it to uninstall. It hung for hours and I rebooted and it was gone from the Programs list, but was still running in the background. I killed the ApplePush and iCloud processes and then deleted the following folders

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple

    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple

     

    I then rebooted and attempted to install only iCloud and it worked!

    I had the same problem and I found a solution that worked for me...

     

    You will need to uninstall Outlook 2016 (Office) and re-install an older version of Outlook for iCloud for WIndows 5.0 to function properly. For some reason iCloud requires an email program to be active in order to function at all (regardless of whether you intend to use the email sync function or not).

     

    SImply un-installing Outlook 2016 will not work- you actually have to replace it with an older version of Outlook or another email client in order for iCloud to function. I have also submitted a bug to Apple about this.

     

    I hope it helps alleviate some of the frustration I went through.

    Same error message with iCloud 5.0 installation. I hope there will be another solution than rolling back to an older version of Outlook? I have Office 365 and can't roll back (or don't know how) to Outlook 2013...

    I am having the same problem with the update to iCloud 5.0. I have Outlook 2016 64bit installed through Office 365 Business. This is definitely something I think Apple needs to fix. I shouldn't have to revert to a lesser version of Outlook to make iCloud work.

    I agree.  I'm not rolling back from Office 2016... Rolling back should not be the "answer..."

    Same Problem with 4.1 update to 5.0 and installed Office 365 on Win 10 -> I will also not delete Office.

    To everyone who has said "I will not un-install Outlook as a solution" I completely understand, as I also depend on Outlook for a few specific purposes (mainly to create hard backups of calendars and tasks that I cannot otherwise export to a hard drive) but for actual email I just use Outlook.com which is actually a really nice interface. I am almost to the point where the PC installed version is unnecessary because the online version is so nice, however that being said I know this is not a great solution and that's why I encourage everyone who experiences this problem to submit a bug to Apple at https://bugreport.apple.com and use similar keywords "iCloud install/upgrade error 2343" in your bug report so that all of our reports will be seen together as one big problem, affecting many users, rather than individual occurrences. Things will get fixed faster this way.

     

    Since I don't rely heavily on the PC version of Outlook anymore, I just installed a copy of 2010 from an old disk I had and that allowed iCloud to function. Once they fix this bug I will install Office 2016 again. In the mean time, it really doesn't affect my productivity much, it's just annoying more than anything. iCloud 5.0 was important to me because it connects to the iCloud Photo Library (sort of manually, though not as seamlessly as a Mac, iPhone or iPad).

    I totally agree. There should be no reason why I should have to revert Outlook (Office 2016) to a previous version, that I could then upgrade iCloud to its latest version. This is a crock of cameldung.

    Well ... I was optimistic once again when I got the prompt on my screen to update to iCloud For Windows version 5.  Unbelievably, installation results in the same error encountered in the previous three update releases, e.g. that software installation package failure window, followed by program backing out of the install.  This on my HP PC running Windows 10.

     

    Apple's inability to resolve this issue is inexplicable.  If any site Administrator can shed light on this long standing issue it would be most appreciated.

     

    Oh .. and I am running Office 2010, thus Outlook 2010 .. so any suggestion that the problem is linked to the latest version of Outlook installed is not relevant to this issue.

    Same ongoing results here. I am an equal opportunity user - some Windows, some Apple. Both have their place. However, as a retired software engineer I am completely chagrined at the failure of Apple to resolve this issue quickly. Customer support is now a major element of product satisfaction. Enough said.

    Hi all,

     

    Would also like to share my findings with you and maybe someone have found a solution for sync with Outlook 16.


    I could solve the part "installing icloud update"! But before you try it, be aware, that i could not sync outlook with icloud afterwards! It seems apple did not test icloud 5.0 with office 16. So if sync with outlook is important for you, do not upgrade to icloud 5.0 until apple is gona fix it!

     

    I used the FixIt tool from MS https://support.microsoft.com/de-de/mats/program_install_and_uninstall/en (it's also available under the en site)
    The thing is, W10 is not supported. So you have to open the site in explorer using emulation mode and pretend you are on W7 (ie10)
    then you can run FixIt and afterwards you can install the icloud update.

    My solution, may be it help:

    1. Delete folder c:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Internet Services\

    2. Press Win + R

    3. Write "regedit" (it's registry editor). Press Enter

    4. Make registry backup: press File > Export and save current state of registry

    5. Find and delete all folders containing "icloud"

     

    After that I removed icloud without problems.
