iCloud uninstall/upgrade error 2343

I have iCloud 3.1 running on Windows 8.1 x64 without problem. I'm trying to upgrade to 4.0 through Apple Software Update and I was getting an error. I have also tried to uninstall iCloud entirely or do a repair and I get the same error each time:

The installer has encountered an unexpected error installing this package. This may indicate a problem with this package. The error code is 2343.

On the main uninstall window the step it is on says: Status: Removing INI files entries

I've tried uninstalling with RevoUninstall Free, but iCloud isn't listed in its view. I ran the Microsoft FixIt and it ran for more than 2 hours and never finished. After that, iCloud was missing from the Programs and Features window but I still couldn't install 4.0

I did a System Restore to last week and the same error.

How can I get it fully uninstalled or find out what INI file it is trying to look at?

The only thing I can think of is that I used to have Office 2013 installed which I have since uninstalled and maybe iCloud was still trying to point to that, although I was only using iCloud for Photostream and nothing with syncing contacts or e-mail.

I tried running ProcessMonitor while unininstalling to see if I could see what it was attempting, but didn't find it.

Doing this:

The thing is, W10 is not supported. So you have to open the site in explorer using emulation mode and pretend you are on W7 (ie10)

then you can run FixIt and afterwards you can install the icloud update.

worked for me.

Well, I have not benn able to install any of the updated releases since version 4, and I was still running Windows 7 AND am still running Outlook 2010. So, any suggestion that the issue is solely related to the new version of Outlook and/or to Windows 10 is not The answer. The answer is Apple needs to issue a release that will actually install.

Fortunately Apple has update their website with a statement that iCloud for Windows is confirmed not compatible with Office 2016 and they will release an update in December with the fix. Looking forward to that.

Well this is a totally unacceptable solution. I'm using Office 365 so cannot roll back to an earlier version.

I'll just continue to use iCloud 4.1 until Apple decides it's time to clear it's recto-cranial inversion issues with v5 for Windows7 64 bit

download IO bituninstaller and remove iCloud.

INCREDIBLE. This worked for me! I have been unable to upgrade past version 3.1 all this time .. I am now up and running with version 5!

FYI (anyone) I am running Windows 10 and Outlook 2010. Shame on you Apple for not being able to figure this out.

Huzzah! I used the Revo Uninstaller, but it still worked. I had tried that before with no joy, but this time I did a more thorough cleansing of the registry. That must be the difference. At any rate . . . I, too, am up and running with version 5.0! Thanks! 🙂

Well this phenomenon may or may not be related to Apple's November 24th tweak, but if it worked for me and you, I suspect it will work for many, if not all who have been stuck in unable-to-update mode.

After upgrading to Outlook 2016 on a Windows 10 computer, I too got stuck in the iCloud for Windows can't update, can't uninstall error 2343. I installed IObit Uninstaller and it fully removed iCloud. I downloaded and installed a new copy of iCloud for Windows which synced perfectly with Outlook 2016.

IObit Uninstaller puts three programs on your machine during installation. The removal of all three was quick and easy.

I didn't have to go to quite that much trouble. I already had Revo Uninstaller, and once I uninstalled iCloud (with the option to thoroughly clean the registry), I reinstalled iCloud 5.0 with nary a problem and didn't have to fool with anything else. Of course, it's a moot point now as it seems Apple finally solved the problem with v5.1.
