Why has iCloud stopped syncing calendar changes and reminders on my Mac with my iPhone?

It works fine with my iPad but abruptly stopped working with my iPhone. Changes to my iPhone will not sync with my iMac and vice versa. I have tried various fixes but haven't come up with a solution. My iPhone is a 4s. iMac was new last December. Both have the latest updates.

iPhone 4S, iOS 8, iMac, OS X 10.9.5

Are you syncing contacts and calendars with other accounts in addition to iCloud (Gmail, Yahoo, exchange, etc.)? Check Settings>Mail,Contacts,Calendars>Default Account (in the Contacts section) and >Default Calendar (in the Calendars section) and make sure it's set to your iCloud account.

If you don't see the Default Account setting in contacts that means you aren't syncing contacts with an external service so that isn't the issue. The default calendar setting is listing all your iCloud calendars and also doesn't appear to list any non-iCloud accounts so that isn't the problem there either.

The fist thing to do to sort this out is add a test contact and calendar event on both your iPad and your Mac, then check iCloud.com to see which, if any of these appears in your contacts and calendars there. Let me know your results.

Try signing out of iCloud on your Mac. Go to System Preferences>iCloud, click Sign Out, choose Delete at all of the prompts (your data will still be in iCloud), restart your Mac, then go back and sign back in (your data will download back to your Mac). Then try adding another test contact and calendar event on your Mac and see if they sync to your phone.

If they still don't sync to your phone, sign out of iCloud on your phone and sign back in. Go to Settings>iCloud, tap Sign Out, choose Delete from My iPhone and provide your password when prompted (your data will still be in iCloud). Then reset your phone (hold the power and home buttons at the same time until you see the Apple logo, then release); when it restarts go back to Settings>iCloud and sign back in (your data will download back to your phone. Then try syncing to your Mac (and vice versa) again and see if it works properly now.

I'm sorry to say that but if you have doing the IOS8 update on your Iphone you can't use iCloud with your Mac on Mavericks.

The only things that you can do is to wait for the Yosemite update on your Mac.

That's only true if you enable iCloud Drive, and it only applies to documents in iCloud Drive. Contacts, calendars, and reminders are not effected by this.
