unable to use HDMI adapter after iOS 8.0 upgrade

I just updated my iPad 2 to the new iOS (Version 8.0) and now when I try to display my iPad app to a TV (using a HMDI adaptor) the iPad has an error message that says: "This device is not supported by this iPad". There is no way for me to fall back to an earlier version of the iOS.

One side note. When I first plugged in my iPad to the TV it did display my iPad presentation for a few seconds and then it went to "No signal" on the TV. After the iPad error message (mentioned above), it would no longer display anything from my iPad.

Thanks for your help!

I Believe you are correct. I upgraded to iOS 8.02 and I still have the same problem.

When I first attach the iPad to the TV it works but after a second it stops working. I think the the iOS is designed to reject my adapter. I'm not sure if it is a real Apple adapter or not. I bought it in China.

I Don't understand why Apple would care about an external device. It does not involve software. I feel it is like using different brands of monitors. Why should an external device be blocked?

thanks for your help.

My adapter is apple adapter purchased personally by me in Apple store directly. Yet with Ipad Mini runing on IOS 8.0.2 it does not work and this only occurred after upgrading to IOS 8.0.2. It's not adapter it self as it works perfectly with second Ipad Mini I have in my family which is not upgraded ot IOS 8. Test have been done on same video, TV, HDMI cable and adapter. The only difference are IPad’s with different IOS on them, hence to me it's software problem which need fixing. Tried doing points recommended by troubleshooting pages and it’s still where it was Ipad Mini IOS 8 does not work with adapter.

P.S. As a matter of interest tried on my IPhone 6 plus and it does not work either

Hdmi adapter not working after upgrade to iOS8

Seven or more people report problem with apple cable too.

Reported by Boonekingdom :

if you full screen the video fist, then connect the hdmi, it will work.

Three people report success with this method two people did not.

Two people report success using chromcast.

One person reports success with apple cable instead of third party cable.

I've been having problems with it too. I hope they don't continue rejecting other cables and softwares. We connect our iPad to the TV for business reasons, and if we can't get this solved we'll have to get a different tablet. I love apple, but we need to connect our tablet to the TV, and last I checked apple doesn't have a HDMI to iPad chord.

People have reported success with wifi connection, Apple TV or Chromcast. Visit apple store to see what works.

People have reported success afer:

-- rebooting

-- first display the video then connect the adapter.

For the apple adapter, see: ( People have reported problems with even the apple links. )

I could not agree more. I have been fearful for some time that after the passing of Steve Jobs, Apple would once again start to decline in the quality of their products... seems the slide has happened quicker than I anticipated. This release has all the marks of compromising the 'it just works' mantra... worst of all is the perplexing matrix of what kind of adapter now works with what kind of product.

All I know is I have an Apple iPad, and Apple adapter, and an Apple IOS that suddenly no longer works... and Apple wants to obfuscate about who is responsible.

Well, I have my HDMI cable and my trusty Windows Laptop, so for now I can continue my presentations on it. If Apple doesn't get their act together, I guess I can go Surface next time around.

Goto an apple store. Buy new connector. Try in store. People have reported problems with even the old apple connectors. People have reported that the latest connectors work. Take old apple connector to store. Complain its not working. Point to these articles. Try overnight shipping from online Apple store.

Not sure if you want to risk an upgrade to 8.1.

Hi guys. I've just discovered that I have the same problems when trying to connect to my TV using an adaptor and HDMI cable (iPad 2 upgraded ⚠ to ios8.1). I think I'll follow the advice to go to a store and try another adaptor. Trying to complain to Apple seems difficult so going to a store seems to be the best option.

Thanks for for the useful chat.
