Would you prefer it to break? That was the issue with the 3G and 3Gs.

If you do a search here you will find many threads about the iPhone 5 bending. I carried one in my front pocket for 2 years with no case. Never bent it. If you carry it in your back pocket and sit down and stress it with your weight you can bend it. But you should be able to fill the stress on the iPhone before this.

Until the carbon fiber or titanium smartphones are released people just need to use some reasonable caution.

With reasonable care, I don't think people will bend their phones. With reckless care, it's certainly possible. I didn't get the 6 Plus, because I think it's too honking large for my needs. The regular 6 is plenty big. And I always keep my phones safely in a nice hard shell protective case. So for me, this bending nonsense is just that. Nonsense.

The design flaw is in the phone. Achieving this record thinness with the materials used, has come at the cost of the integrity and rigidity of the phone's structure. Apple's products are about quality, simplicity, and fitting your everyday lifestyle; to quote Ive, "you shouldn't have to adapt for it." If I have to worry about the impact my pockets may have on my phone, it loses all practicality. No one should have to think about whether putting on their next pair of pants will bend their phone. The excuse that other manfacturer's phones bend as well is not an adequate defense, nor does it offer a solution. Adding a case to your phone is a band-aid solution. You'd likely need a case that's thick and durable enough to counteract the stresses placed on the phone, which will in turn add to the size of your giant phone.

I don't believe the issue is exaggerated; there are plenty of people reporting that placing the phone in the front pockets for a few hours will cause it to bend. Guess what, lots of people wear jeans, and most jean pockets will have a tight fit for such a large device, which may add prolonged stress which causes it to bend.

It's easy to say lack of common sense is the route cause, and blame the user. But it's also common sense to think your cell phone is made durable enough to withstand the common stresses of every day life.

The questions remain, how will Apple handle this situation, and how quickly will they respond? Will it be a significantly delayed response due to public outcry, like the antenna-gate issue with iPhone 4. Or will they resolve this issue promptly, and take action with a viable solution that pleases everyone.

I cant help but laugh at some of the complaints I'm reading. What do you expect if you put a thin piece of aluminum and plastic in your pocket?!?! I have always and will continue to use a holster for my phone, for not only this reason, but faster access. To blame Apple for this is absolutely ridiculous. Take some responsibility for your actions folks.

The iPhone3 iPhone4 and iPhone5 range bent also if you put enough pressure on them. Screens would crack and cases would bend. This has been happening to every range of smartphone ever made if they are handled roughly. You can't continually sit on electrical devices or apply extreme pressure to an electrical device that was never made to stand such abuse. I have sen Samsung phones emerge from people's back pocket with shattered screens, as often as I have seen a warped iPhone 5. Perhaps it is tie people decided to handle such an expensive device with some degree of care instead of treating it like an indestructible toy. 😉

My two cents worth.

I'm amazed at this discussion. You guys buy an expensive, thin, lightweight, electronic instrument/computer and then expect to be able to stuff it into one of the tightest trouser pockets on earth - a jeans pocket ! - pockets so tight that I rarely use mine for anything other than loose change.

I can guess what Steve Jobs would have said - "You're putting it in the wrong pocket"
