Disgusted that Apple somehow failed to test the new iPhones in real world conditions. Is it arrogance or ignorance? Either way, heads should roll for this. I will be holding off on my purchase of the iPhone 6 until Apple fixes this issue. I've never had a phone bend in my pocket and don't plan on buying one that does.
Don't put your iPhone in your pocket without a protective case. Apple has never recommended putting an iPhone in your pocket, but they have recommended putting a case on the device. Use some logic & common sense.
It may be hooey, but it probably isn't . A smart phone is expected to do a job. Part of that job, most would argue, is to be able to go into someone's pants pocket and not get bent or broken. If the phone is getting broken by doing what it is intended to do then there is a problem with the manufacturing of the phone. No matter how much you like apple that is the truth. Sad part is, what has always made apple great is the way they understand how a product will be used and then design the product to work. It looks like they may well have forgotten what made them so good and decided to choose form over function.
All these posts criticizing Apple for designing a phone that "supposedly" bends "easily." Yet no one reporting here they've actually taken "their" phone out of "their" pocket and found it was bent. Hmmmmm, I wonder why? Sure, the guy who posted the video of bending his phone, clearly had to put a LOT of pressure on the phone. CNN tried to bend one. It didn't bend easily. It didn't bend at all.
Believe what you want. Buy one or don't, but don't be so quick to believe everything you read.
Either it bends easily or it doesn't. If it doesn't bend then there isn't an issue.
Unlike some people here, I believe that if it does bend while just being in my front pocket, then it is an issue. I would agree though, if I put it in my back pocket and sit my fat butt on it, and it bends then that isn't an issue, just like if I set it on the ground and run over it with a truck.
No one should expect to be able to sit on your phone, or run over it with a car, or throw it against a wall and have it be fine. Everyone should expect to be able to put your phone in your front pocket and not have it bend.
I had an iPhone 5 that bent while sitting in my front pocket, it was in there all day and not touched, took it out 6 hours later and it had a 15 degree bend in it at the volume buttons, exact same place these ones are bending. It's not just bending pressure i imagine it's also warmth helping the metal be malleable, i know my front pocket gets pretty toasty after working all day. To say it's impossible is pretty ignorant, considering you have no idea what people do during the day. Why are you even posting to this thread if you aren't being affected by the issue? It really just seems you're trying to tell people that are having the issues that they're lying or mistaken when you really have no proof of either, so how about ya keep it to yourself?
I am pretty sure the warmth in your pants isn't really enough to affect the structural integrity of your phone.
Thats what she said.
Sorry couldn't resist/
"Don't put your iPhone in your pocket without a protective case. Apple has never recommended putting an iPhone in your pocket, but they have recommended putting a case on the device. Use some logic & common sense."
Are you being serious here? I cannot tell if it's sarcasm or earnestness.
If you're being serious, then that's pretty dumb.
a) Why should I spend $1000 on a phone and immediately put it in a case? Does it require a case? Where in the documentation does it say a case is required for your iPhone to maintain any sort of rigidity?
b) When has Apple said "Don't put your phone in your pocket!" I don't remember this line, and when Tim and them did Antenna gate a few years ago they all pulled their iPhones out of their pockets, so I'd be curious to know when you heard this, and perhaps a link to it?
For someone who says use common sense and logic, i don't really see any from your post. A phone should be designed to stand up to what it's going to be put through, if it bends from being exposed to the warmth and pressure of a front pocket, then it clearly shouldn't have gotten out of the design phase. I had this same argument with Apple over my bent iPhone 5, if the phones *need* a case in order to not be warped by your pocket then maybe add that to documentation, but in the end that'd be like buying a BMW and the owners manual saying "For best rigidity and stability, ensure car is only driven while encased in a Styrofoam/plastic block".
I don't buy pretty hardware to be covered up. If i want an iPhone wrapped in a plastic coating that won't bend, i'll buy a Nokia.
They don't need one.
This I Phone bending is a ridiculous gimmick playing out by folks looking for their 2 minutes
of fame. First, no device can be truly built to be indestructible. So with that said, use common
sense when using your I Phone 6 or plus. Here are some do's and don'ts.
Do - treat your I phone 6 or plus as you would any other electronic device you value and respect.
Don't - run over it with your car to see if it will bend.
Don't - employ any special tools or clamps to aid in your strength to degrade the integrity of the phone.
Don't - put in a warming device (microwave or etc) to heat up the material to a temperature making the metal susceptible to failure.
Don't - go on YouTube with a dummy I phone 6 or plus to show the world you can bend a dummy I phone to get your 2 minutes
of fame as this character from Canada has recently done.
Follow these simple steps, and your new I phone will be just fine.
so how about this. http://money.cnn.com/video/technology/2014/09/24/iphone-6-plus-bend.cnnmoney/
"I am pretty sure the warmth in your pants isn't really enough to affect the structural integrity of your phone."
I'm not sure about that, when it's 30+ degrees C outside, and there's a lot of heat, and sweat and probably even a bit of friction from moving all day I'd say there could be ample levels of warmth. I'll have to work a busy day and then fire an infra-red thermometer into my pockets to see how warm it actually gets but I'd say there is an appreciable amount of warmth. It doesn't take a lot of heat to make things more malleable.
Fit for purpose.
When did it become wrong to put a phone in your pocket, I have used a mobile for over 20 years and they have always been carried in a pocket. When they got small enough the pocket of my jeans, front and back. I have never had a phone break or bend in those 20 years. The problem is that the phone construction isn't fit for purpose. Obviously isn't an ideal place for a phone but it is a practical one. Carrying a phone on some batman style identity belt just isn't practical. Apple hasn't created something new here they have created a phablet, other phablets don't bend so why do you think apple has the right to change the habits of phone users. Obviously Apple are going to have to redesign the plus to make it less prone to bending, the whole thing is a PR disaster. Apple make devices with the user in mind, a phone that can't be stored in a pocket (like pretty much every other phone out there can) is just not good enough.

You mean talking and using applications?
When did it become wrong to put a phone in your pocket
A beter question would be is, "when did the "purpose" of a phone become to go into your front pocket and sit down"?
Mine is still on order, but I have the same concern (obvously). I am hopeful that Apple would provide a complimentary durable case with the 6-Plus - it only makes sense, since it is so thin and prone to bending. That should cool down the massive hysteria, but it (and anything else for that matter) won't stop the Apple haters from hating. Heck, any publicity is good publicity for a company like Apple. As others have said, whoever puts a 5.5" screen or larger in their back pocket and sits on it deserves the result they may get. And those who try purposely to bend it (as in the viral video) deserve the same result.
Portable phone... Purpose to be portable. They are a modern convince, and should fit in with modern life. The whole trend in smart phones has been to make them more not less durable. Apple is bucking that trend with a new phone just like older phones but less durable. What is it about that you find acceptable. Defend Apple as much as you like but I won't buy a phone that will bend in everyday use. Putting a phone in a pocket isn't a crazy new idea... In fact watch some iPhone launches and you will see Apple execs pulling phones out of their Jean pockets. A phone should aid my day to day life not require me to modify behaviour. I am 100% certain that Apple will be looking at how they will change the phone rather than reeducating the population on where or where not you carry a smart phone.
It doesn't bend in everyday use. It bends if excessive pressure is applied to it, just like every, single mobile phone in the world.
